Graph extension disabled

Yesterday the Wikimedia Foundation noted that in the interests of the security of our users, the Graph extension was disabled. This means that pages that were formerly displaying graphs will now display a small blank area. To help readers understand this situation, communities can now define a brief message that can be displayed to readers in place of each graph until this is resolved. That message can be defined on each wiki at MediaWiki:Graph-disabled. Wikimedia Foundation staff are looking at options available and expected timelines. Automatic citations based on ISBN are broken

Apologies if this message does not reach you in your favorite language. You can help translate it centrally at Meta. Thanks for your help.

We have recently become unable to access the WorldCat API which provided the ability to generate citations using ISBN numbers. The Wikimedia Foundation's Editing team is investigating several options to restore the functionality, but will need to disable ISBN citation generation for now.

This affects citations made with the VisualEditor Automatic tab, and the use of the citoid API in gadgets and user scripts, such as the autofill button on refToolbar. Please note that all the other automatic ways of generating citations, including via URL or DOI, are still available.

You can keep updated on the situation via Phabricator, or by reading the next issues of m:Tech News. If you know of any users or groups who rely heavily on this feature (for instance, someone who has an upcoming editathon), I'd appreciate it if you shared this update with them.

Temporary accounts for unregistered editors

Next year, unregistered editors will start using temporary accounts.

In 2024, editors who have not registered an account will automatically begin using temporary accounts. These editors are sometimes called "IP editors" because the IP address is displayed in the page history.

కంటెంట్ ట్రాన్స్‌లేషన్ పరికరంలో సమస్యలు (Bugs in Content Translation tool)

అనువాద పరికరంలో నేను గమనించిన సమస్యలను ఇక్కడ రాస్తున్నాను. వీటిని ఆయా డెవలపర్ల దృష్టికి తీసుకెళ్ళవలసినది.

Following are some issues/bugs in the Content Translation tool

1. If a paragraph starts with a template (e.g. {{As of}}), the entire para is not being translated.
2. Large Tables are not getting translated.
3. Large pages throw up several problems.
4. When the paragraphs are clicked in quick succession, the translation either fail or the paragraphs are jumbled after saving.
5. When a saved translation is reopened, sometimes the paragraphs are jumbled. That is -Translation of Para#1 appears against para#2, translation of para#2 appears against para#3 etc. It looks this error has a pattern but I could not find the reason for this. For example - the translation of 1999 Cricket World Cup statistics into Telugu. Translation id:2268954. It was corrected and published.
   1. Sometimes, translations are not being saved. When a saved translation is reopened, sometimes, the untranslated version is shown. Translations done earlier are lost. This is quite frustrating.
6. content inside <div></div> is not being translated
7. The translation does not show the period (full stop) at the end of the patragraph.

1. The reference is located in the middle of the sentence instead of at the end of the sentence. This is because the sentence structure is different in Telugu where the verb comes last. And the tool is trying to place the reference adjacent to the same word where it appears in the source.
2. When a User tries to translate a page, if the same page is already under translation by a different user, this is not being intimated to the user now. Ealrier, the second user used to be alerted.

తెలుగు వికీపీడియాలో సమస్యలు (Bugs in Telugu Wikipedia)

Bugs noticed in Telugu Wikipedia

1. The Interlanguage links: It shows available links immediately on click, but takes some time to show the non-available links. When that list appears, the available links list suddenly drops a little down causing inconvenience to the user.
2. After a page is loaded in the browser, the transliteration method does not work in the Search box. It works only after the page is taken out of focus and brought back into focus.
3. The same problem appears - but only occasionally - when the page is opened in “Edit Source” mode. There is no such problem in “Visual edit” mode.
4. Auto creation of reference does not work with urls that contain PDF or other files

New features required in Wikipedia:

1. Visual editor is required in Wikipedia: namespace.
2. A feature is required in the "Source edit" mode to "add a column" and "add a row" to existing table using tool bar menu
3. A "Bookmark" feature is required which stores the recently edited - not visited - pages (limit to 10) and should be available as a drop down in User menu. (Evidently, there is a difference between Watch list and this)
4. When a page is archived, the corresponding history also should be "COPIED" (not moved) to the newly created archive page.
5. When a page is imported from a different Wiki, the Interlanguage links also should be imported - i.e. the Wikidata page should be updated with the destinated Wikipedia link.
6. "Multiple imports" feature is required
7. A Magic Word is required to find out total bytes added "by a User", "on a page"
8. Following features are required in Tables
   1. Moving the cursor to the end of the column or row on Ctrl+Arrow just like in Excel
   2. Ability to change the colour of individula rows, cols and cells
   3. Ability to Count, Sum and Average for the selected rows/columns

• In the special page, Special:WantedPages, there should be a feature to filter the pages by Namespace. If it is not possible imemdiately, the pages from "Template talk:" namespace should not be shown in the list. • Categorisation : Categorisation needs to be automated. Basic categories will, as usual, be added by the Users. Software should create the derivative categories based on those basic categories. For example..

• User adds two categories: "Cricketers" and "People from Vijayawada"
• Then software creates the following categories based in the above two categories AND their parent-cats
  • "Cricketers from Vijayawada", "Cricketers from Vijayawada District", "Cricketers from Andhra Pradesh" etc.

These derived Categories may appear on the page by default or can be shown "on demand".

బాగుంది. వికీడేటాలో సరిపడినంత డేటా ఉంటే, ఈ డేటాబాక్సులో ఆ డేటాను తెచ్చే వీలు ఉంటే ఈ డేటాబాక్స్ వలన ఎంతో ఉపయోగం. దీనివలన మరొక ముఖ్యమైన ప్రయోజనం ఏంటంటే - తెవికీలో ఈ పెట్టెను వాడడం పెరిగే కొద్దీ వికీడేటాలో తెలుగు అభివృద్ధి చెందుతుంది.

గతంలో అర్జున గారు {{Infobox India AP Mandal}}, {{Infobox India AP Village}} వంటి కొన్ని మూసలు సృష్టించారు. పేజీలో ఈ మూస పేరు చేరిస్తే సరిపోతుంది. డేటాను వికీడేటా నుండి తెచ్చుకుంటుంది. అయితే మనకవసరమైన కొన్ని డేటాంశాలు రాలేదు. కొంత మెరుగు పరచాల్సి ఉంది. అలాగే దీన్ని కూడా మెరుగు పరచాల్సి ఉంది.

కొన్ని పరిశీలనలు -

1. మనం ఇప్పుడు వాడుతున్న సమాచారపెట్టెల్లో ఉంటున్న డేటాతో పోలిస్తే ఈ పెట్టెలో చూపించే డేటా తక్కువ ఉంటోంది. ఉదాహరణకు గ్రామాల పేజీల్లో డేటా. వికీడేటాలో ఆంధ్ర తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్రాల గ్రామాలకు సంబంధించిన డేటా చాలా సమగ్రంగా ఉన్నప్పటికీ, ఆ డేటాను ఇది తీసుకురాలేదు. రావాలంటే - ఆయా డేటాను తెచ్చేలా ఈ డేటాబాక్స్‌ను మార్చుకోవాలి.
2. వికీడేటా లోని గ్రామాల పేజీల్లో జనగణన వివరాల వంటి కొన్ని డేటాంశాలకు ఒకటి కంటే ఎక్కువ విలువలుంటై. అంటే 2001 జనాభా, 2011 జనాభా వివరాలు మొదలైనవి. అప్పుడు అత్యంత తాజా డేటా తేవాలి అంటే వస్తుందా? వికీడేటాలో రెండు కంటే ఎక్కువ విలువలున్న లక్షణంలో మనకు కావాల్సిన డేటా వస్తుందా? ఈ పెట్టెలో అలా తెచ్చే వీలు లేదనిపిస్తోంది. ఉంటే సరే.. , లేదంటే చేర్చాలి.
3. కామన్సులో బొమ్మల్లేనట్లైతే వికీడేటాలో బొమ్మ చేర్చలేం కదా.. అప్పుడు ఈ సమాచారపెట్టెలో బొమ్మ ఉండదు. తెవికీలో స్థానికంగా ఎక్కించే సముచిత వినియోగపు బొమ్మను ఈ పెట్టెలో వాడలేం. ఉదాహరణకు, రవి కన్నన్‎ పేజీలో తొలుత బొమ్మ రాలేదు, వికీడేటాలో బొమ్మలేదు కాబట్టి. అందులో బొమ్మ చేర్చాక ఇక్కడ పెట్టెలో బొమ్మ వచ్చింది. కామన్సులో ఆ బొమ్మ ఉంది కాబట్టి వికీడేటాలో చేర్చగలిగాం. లేనట్లైతే ఈ పెట్టెలో బొమ్మ ఉండేది కాదు.

పైవి పెద్ద సమస్యలేమీ కాదు. తెవికీలో ఈ మాడ్యూల్లో తగు మార్పుచేర్పులు చేసుకుంటే చాలావరకు పరిష్కారమౌతాయి. కానీ తెవికీలో ఆ పని చేసేదెవరు? __ చదువరి (చర్చ • రచనలు) 14:26, 27 అక్టోబరు 2023 (UTC)

ఉల్లేఖనల గ్రూపులను వాడేటపుడు

వ్యాసాల్లో ఉల్లేఖనలను చేర్చేటపుడు డిఫాల్టుగా ఉన్న ఉల్లేఖన గ్రూపులను వాడేందుకు వివిధ పద్ధతులున్నాయి. [lower-alpha 1] లాగా గానీ, [upper-alpha] లాగా గానీ, ఇతర విధాలైన గ్రూపులుగా గానీ వాటిని సూచించవచ్చు. lower-alpha వాడునపుడు ఉల్లేఖన a,b,c,.. లాగా upper-alpha వాడినపుడు A,B,C,.. లాగా ఇతర పద్ధతులను వాడినపుడు i,ii,iii,.. వంటి ఇతర విధాలుగా రెండరు చేసి చూపిస్తాయి. అయితే తెవికీలో ప్రస్తుతం ఈ గ్రూపులను వాడినపుడు అలా రెండరు చెయ్యకుండా [lower-alpha 1], [lower-alpha 2], [upper-alpha 1] , [upper-alpha 2] అని చూపిస్తున్నాయి. పనితీరు విషయంలో వాటితో ఇబ్బంది ఏమీ లేదు గానీ, వ్యాసాన్ని చూపించడాంలో సాఫిస్టికేషను కనబడదు. దీన్ని మనం సవరించుకోవాలి. "మీడియావికీ:" పేరుబరిలో కొన్ని పేజీలుంటే అవి సరిగ్గా రెండరవుతాయి. అవి ప్రస్తుతం తెవికీలో లేవు.

భేష్, ఇప్పుడు చక్కగా a,b,c.. లను చూపిస్తోంది. 2024 భారత సార్వత్రిక ఎన్నికలు పేజీలోని పట్టికలో మణిపూర్ వరుసలో ఉల్లేఖన [a] అని వచ్చింది, చూడవచ్చు. ఇంతకుముందు అక్కడ [lower-alpha 1] అని చూపించింది.

పై పేజీల్లో ఏదో ఒకదానిలో తెలుగు అక్షరాలను చేరిస్తే, ఉల్లేఖనల్లో a,b,c,.. లకు బదులు అ,ఆ,ఇ,ఈ,.. లు వచ్చేలా చేసుకోవచ్చు. ఉదాహరణకు ఆ గ్రీకు లేదా రోమన్ అక్షరాల పేజీలో ఆ అక్షరాలను తీసేసి తెలుగు అక్షరాలు పెట్టుకోవచ్చు. ఉల్లేఖనల్లో ఆ గ్రూపును వాడి తెలుగు అక్షరాలు రెండరయ్యేలా చేసుకోవచ్చు గదా! నిర్వాహకులు పరిశీలించవలసినది. __ చదువరి (చర్చ • రచనలు) 12:59, 16 ఏప్రిల్ 2024 (UTC)
