The phrase "never forget" is a commemorative political slogan that originated after the Holocaust. It is widely used to encourage remembrance for national and international tragedies. These have included the horrors of American slavery, the September 11 attacks in the United States in 2001, the Holocaust in Europe during World War II, the Armenian Genocide of the 1910s, and other acts of genocide and mass murder.
It is often used in conjunction with "Never Again".
Similar terms have been used in times before, including "lest we forget" at the end of the "Ode of Remembrance".
From the late 1940s to 2001, the phrase was used to protest genocide. While the main message of "never forget" is to remember the past so history does not repeat its mistakes, it also arguably implies vengeance and militarism, especially after 9/11 when the term was used by supporters of the War on Terror.
The phrase has been used by U.S. President George W. Bush and by President Barack Obama.

I'm thinking back to all the good times we shared
Through and through no closer two
I always looked up to you
I don't know how or when everything could have gone so wrong
That you could feel so sad You couldn't carry on
I can't believe this is true
I always loved and adored you
What happened where was I
How could I let you die
I know I could have saved you
I can't believe it actually could come to this
For once in your life couldn't you have missed
And though I know there was nothing I could have done
Deep inside I still feel I let you down
Best friend I ever had
This ending isn't right
When I spoke to your dad
He told me that those were the best days of your life
I would give anything for a chance to rewind
Roll back the hands of time to save a friend of mine
Deep inside I regret I never will forget
