Data Duplication

Data duplication (also called data redundancy) is the process of creating identical copies of data within a database or across multiple data storage systems. Unlike data replication, which synchronizes data across different locations, data duplication often refers to a single procedure to move data to another location. It can also refer to unintentional or unnecessary copying of data within a system.

Systematic data duplication can involve the entire data source or parts of it. It’s often used to create backups of data in case of disaster or when moving data to a different data source.

Another procedure, data deduplication, is the process that removes redundant data while keeping its quality and ensuring that applications that use the data are not disrupted.
