An estimated 200,000 people gathered in Paris at the weekend to protest against same-sex marriage.
Same-sex marriage was legalised in France in 2013 despite widespread opposition.
The protestors are seeking a repeal of the 2013 same-sex marriage law which was approved by the National Assembly in a 331-225 vote.
Father and mother
The march was organised by La Manif Pour Tous, or ‘Demonstration for All’, a group which opposes same-sex marriage and promotes the traditional family model of “one mother and one father.”
Protesters marched with signs saying: “A father and a mother – it’s hereditary”, and: “In 2017, I will vote for the family.”
They hope to influence politicians in the country ahead of French presidential elections due to take place next May.
The French government’s official figures claim that the march was attended by just 24,000 – a figure rejected by organisers who place the figure at ‘over 200,000’.
