[Rewarded Review] Good basic smart speaker
averagetechguy· Review provided by bestbuy.com · August 8, 2023
I picked the new Amazon pop up because I liked the second generation Amazon dot that I have had for several years because of how small and non intrusive it is, and this unit is now the smallest Alexa unit they make currently. They have white, charcoal, lavender blue, and midnight teal colors, I got charcoal, matches all my others, but all are not easily seen where positioned, so color was not important to me. The dot has gotten taller and round, and is slightlh bigger than this. That being said, the features across all old and new are the same, simple controls, basically volume up and down on the unit and a mute, but that's it. The upper volume limit is very adequate for a bedroom, but I have it in my larger rec room area in my entertainment center and it does fine there. I use it to stream football games and music at times and this fills in a gap I had between rooms. It connected into my Eero mesh network easily, and is now part of my 3 other Alexa units as "house music" grouo. I have my thermostat and several subscription streaming music services controlled by ALexa and all work well. The mic is responsive on this and appears to pick up commands well. I would reccomend this to anyone who wants a alexa and doesn't want to spend a lot but have all the features and a small footprint.
[Rewarded Review] An inexpensive, compactful personal assistant.

The Amazon Echo Pop is a really useful personal assistant that has been a rather significant desk upgrade at what would be a very minimal cost. For reference, I have added this Echo Pop to my office desk, with the intention to enhace my space and how I work. The Echo Pop is a very slim and nice looking speaker that takes up little to no space. Upon setting up the device with the Alexa app on the phone and tailoring it to my voice, I started realizing just how good this product might be for me.

The Good:
- The Alexa App. It is unbelievably intuitive and offers many different controls and ways for you to communicate with your smart home device. Including linking spotify which has made it quite a joy to listen to music or podcosts.
- The speakers. For a $40MSRP device I was not sure what to expect. They are quite good for what they are.
- Alexa....it is very nice to use Alexa to read my calendar, the news, etc. Alexa also learns and gets smarter over time which has been quite enjoyable.
- Ordering products: This has been one of the best tools. Usually I order things for my office and being able to do it verbaly and continue on with work has increased work flow since I no longer have to waste time doing it on the website.
- I can tailor what I want Alexa to listen to. Which gives me a peace of mind pertaining to privacy.
- No screen means no distractions. Free listening and it disapears on my desk.

Overall, I am very happy with the Echo Pop and it is a very good screen free alternative to others. I am planning on buying a few more and use them in other areas around my house and my office. I do recommend giving this product a go. You will not be dissapointed.
[Rewarded Review] This thing pops

I've had all of the Echo devices and love how easy they are to use with such a small footprint. Most of my home devices are smart and I use Alexa a lot to control my lights, thermostat, etc. I was curious to try the new Echo Pop as the footprint looked sleeker than the current Dot. I was also curious why the two devices are co-existing, and after using the Pop, I'm not sure the Dot is needed any longer.

Since I have a host of other Alexa devices, the setup for the Pop was a breeze. I put it on my kitchen ledge so it can be used in main part of my home. I found it odd that a black device came with a white power adapter, it would be nice if the two matched. It would also be great if it came with a USB power option as the power adapter is rather large.

The mic is astounding, it's had zero issues hearing my requests, even with the kitchen exhaust and tv on, impressive. The sound was surprisingly really good! For such a tiny device, my music sounded clear and loud without sounding distorted. This isn't a replacement for a large speaker, but it's perfect in my kitchen and would be great in a bathroom or for kids. It sounds noticeably better than my Dots, which I will soon be replacing with more Pops.

Another hit from Amazon!
[Rewarded Review] Echo Dot Alexa performance in a speaker look

I've had Alexa devices in many forms. I currently use Echo Dots in a couple of rooms. Other rooms have Sonos speakers integrating Alexa. I thought I would try the Echo Pop to see if they are a good candidate for "upgrading" the Dots. Their form factor is more upright, feeling more directional than the Dots' puck style. The setup was pretty much identical through the Alexa app. Easy. It takes you through a quick tutorial and introduction to get you started. I have a few music services linked in the app so those are available immediately. The physical interface is pretty much the same. Volume down, mute mic, and volume up, from left to right. The Pop tutorial also mentions muting calls by putting your hand over the top. It doesn't work for pausing music though. The light on the top has the same interactive indicators as the Dots' ring light. Overall I don't notice much improvement in sound over the Dot. The voice of Alexa is loud and clear but music is anemic in bass and just ok. I would say if one of your Dots no longer works, if you want to add a device and the Dot is the same price as the Pop then it gives you an alternative look on a table or shelf over the puck style. But for me, I don't consider this an upgrade over the Dot. In a way, I prefer the Dot as it's less visible among other things on the shelf. This looks like a speaker. So that is probably the biggest consideration if both are still available to purchase.
