Tom Lyons (tomlyons-author) | 16 comments Hi to all. Just published my fourth novel - Grumpy Old Man.
Available in Ebook or paperback at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09PFDL64L

A 50 book giveaway is scheduled.

Thanks!
Tom Lyons

Book info:

Grumpy Old Man is a satire on present day life in SF East Bay Area. (Think Carl Hiassen writing about California)

When seventy-five-year-old multi-millionaire land owner Ramsay Marshall turns up dead in Lake Tahoe, his daughter Sophia suspects foul play. Sophia contacts Palmer Doyle. Palmer is a recently widowed, disabled Afghan War vet turned private investigator. He is hoping to retire soon, get out of the rat race, move to the mountains, when Sophia and her cancer-stricken father-in-law, show up at his office and ask him to investigate the death.

Sophia and Palmer have history together. Fifteen years ago, when Master Sergeant Palmer Doyle is seriously injured in a bomb explosion, Sophia is part of the U.S. Army medical team that nurses him back to health. At the time they were both married, but both are single now.

With his oddball staff of investigators, who have their own phobias, personal quirks, and agendas, Palmer sets out to uncover what really happened. Did the old rich guy die of natural causes? Or was foul play involved?

Set in the East Bay of San Francisco Bay area, Doyle, an old school guy, must navigate the crazy, non-sensical, often hilarious happenings, that occur in modern day life in California.

But people in the novel are not who they appear to be; plot twists keep the reader guessing until the final pages. And, what happened to one family decades ago, during World War 2, may hold the answer as to why certain injustices can never be forgotten, or forgiven, and that exacting revenge is often the best remedy.

This is Grumpy Old Man, a psychological thriller, a murder mystery, a love story, and a satire on the craziness of present-day pandemic life in the SF East Bay Area of California.

Matt Orlando (mattyobooks) | 9 comments Hi reader,

I wanted to introduce myself and my latest mystery thriller novel released January 2022! My name is Matt Orlando and my book Migrant.

Many, many... many years ago I graduated from Salinas High School. In the past five years, I was called to write a murder mystery set in Salinas, CA, which at one point held the title "Homicide Capital of California" and/or "Youth Homicide Capital of the Country". If you’re interested in why I chose this topic, I wrote a blog on my website, mattorlandobooks.com

As a self-published author, releasing a book is satisfying, but also challenging and stressful. I’m putting this out there in hopes to get more readers and more reviews.

MIGRANT is about a Hispanic Police Detective who must find a killer in one of the highest per-capita murder cities in the United States.

If you want a book of Murder, Migrants, and Gangs in Salinas Valley, check out my latest, "MIGRANT".

FULL SUMMARY:
Salinas police detective Mike Garcia is tasked with investigating the murder of a gang member found in the lettuce field of a rich grandfather he had never met. Having been a beat cop in 2009 when Salinas was known as the Youth Murder Capital of California, he knew what sort of retaliation was coming from the clashing gang members that had never stopped the killing. There would be blood on the streets and fear in the community that still hadn’t recovered from the nightly murders. With little evidence and a frightened community, Mike struggles to follow minuscule leads. Then, in a shootout with members of the opposing gang who are backed by one of the most feared Mexican criminal organizations in the country, Mike unintentionally brings the darkness he desperately tried to hide from his family, right to their doorstep. Now, he must not only catch his prime suspect, but he must also survive him.

Bonnie Traymore | 3 comments Thank you! I'm here in town for a few months and I have to say it is one of the most interesting and friendly towns I've visited. I've met so many nice people. Tarrytown is awesome. Great shops, restaurants, etc. There''s lots of interesting non-fiction books around on the history and folklore of the region too if you're into that. This shop carries a nice selection of them. The books are available elsewhere but the owner has curated a nice selection on her website. Have a great day!

Lily Maguire | 1 comments Hello all suspense readers!

My debut novel "Champawat" has received outstanding five star reviews from collogues, and now it's time to see what you all think! Here is the blurb:

"Five murdered. Three suspects. One tiger. If Willow can ever find a pattern…

Willow Thompson is the best detective Stamford has seen. Working under the title of “Chief” for the past eight years, Willow isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty for work, and speed is her motto. With Willow, quality and quantity are one and the same. But when a man shows up on her desk cut to pieces, those lines begin to blur…

He’s a Champawat copycat, with the face of a tiger and a six-inch filet knife as his teeth – maiming and torturing civilians during the night as he prowls the concrete jungle. Nowhere is safe; not homes, parks, or late-night dinners, and no one knows when he’ll pounce.

All eyes are on Willow. Can she keep her promises? Can she hurry through this case and track down this tiger? The answer will be no if she’s not careful. With an unborn child expecting safety, and a husband who’s worried sick, Willow is forced to pick a side – fugitives or family?"

Champawat by Lily Maguire

If you are interested in this suspense/mystery novel, purchase is available on Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, as well as my personal website https://lilymaguireauthor.com

Matt Orlando (mattyobooks) | 9 comments Two of the most powerful Hispanic criminal organizations in the nation are constantly vying for territory with blood and violence. One organization is stationed in Northern California, the other in Southern California. Near the center of California is Salinas, a sleepy farming community that grows more lettuce than the entire world combined. It is also known as the Youth Homicide Capital of the country. Here is where these two rivals meet. The dividing line. The war. More young gang members are murdered here per capita, than almost anywhere in the country. Migrant takes place here where the wrong-colored T-shirt can get you killed. I grew up in Salinas for half my life and was long gone before it got bad. Unless you are a fan of John Steinbeck, or world-famous rodeos, I doubt you have ever heard of Salinas. It’s still there, still growing lettuce, the rodeo comes once a year as planned, and the killings continue. The hero of Migrant is a Hispanic detective working within this environment, searching for a killer among killers.

I am Matt Orlando, and this is for my latest book, Migrant, a crime thriller. If you want to test drive a free book of mine, may I suggest Truncated: Apocalyptic and Loving It!.

Thomas Bruso | 17 comments Hello everybody.

I am a mystery, paranormal, and horror author. I've recently published my new novel, Shadows in the Night. It is a sequel to 2019's mystery novella, Past Sins.

I've included the cover art. You can visit my Goodreads Author Page for more information if you're interested.

Stories synopsis:

PAST SINS: Officer Jack Ballinger receives a phone call from the chief of police in the early morning hours regarding a dead body at an apartment building in a quiet neighborhood in the small upstate New York town of Black Falls. A female student lies in a pentagram outlined in her own blood, clutching a rosary. Ballinger and his former partner Officer Cory Ryan interview tenants in the building about the girl’s death, but are met with more questions than answers.

When another body is found in the same apartment building a few hours later, Jack knows something is wrong. As he ciphers through a patchwork of unexplainable clues, the investigation detours when Ryan disappears from the case and cannot be found.

With his future as an officer in question, will Ballinger be able to deal with the truth of these crimes once he discovers everything he thought he knew was a lie?

SHADOWS IN THE NIGHT: Sequel to Past Sins

Jack Ballinger has seen a lot of horrible things in the six years he’s been a police officer, disturbing images he wishes he could erase from his memory forever. Crime scenes, dead bodies, and the death of his parents dredge up an unsettling time from his past, a tortured childhood he does not want to revisit. But Jack must confront a new waking nightmare that sends him spiraling out of control, down a rabbit hole of indescribable terrors, questioning his existence as a human being, cop, and partner.

Struggling with budget cuts and constantly changing policies within the police department, a cantankerous new police chief, eccentric colleagues, and his on-again/off-again relationship with his boyfriend Steve, Jack must confront an evil entity from a previous life. Grappling with old demons is just the beginning. How long will Jack keep running from the horrors of his past and finally face his fears?

Dimitry Orlov | 188 comments Hi my name is Dimitry Orlov, I have made my first Novel available on Good Reads.

Dark Angel Vancouver is a work of fiction.
It was written for all the people who have been victimized by drug dealers and pimps.

Jake Marshall is a successful thief working in Vancouver, who rescues a woman being beaten by a man. This feeling of rescuing prostitutes is so profound that Jake thinks he has found his true calling in life and begins searching for prostitutes that he can rescue.

In the Beginning

Looking at her jewelry in the bedroom, I hear the front door open downstairs. I quickly closed the jewelry box lid, dropped to the floor, and rolled under the bed, pulling my backpack with me.
A pair of red high heels walk by. I say to myself. “I need to find another line of work.” It’s the third time the owner has come home while I am casing a joint. The sweat is beading on my back. I swore to myself that I would never go back to prison again.
I wondered whether she noticed that her security alarm system was off. I hear her dialing her phone, then say, “Did you forget to turn the alarm on when you left the house this morning?” “I found the security alarm off when I got home.” Then I hear, “Ok, I will call the police immediately.”
I sweat harder.
The owner’s feet walked over to the wall the bed was on, and I heard a click, then a series of clicks like a dial on a safe. I hear the safe open and papers shuffled around, with items dropped on the night table. I pray she doesn’t drop anything and bend down to pick it up. Hearing the click of a safe closing, I watched her feet as she walked out of the room and down the stairs.
I heard her say, “I want to report a robbery,” then a click as the front door closed. I spotted this stunning woman at the Ian Tan Art Gallery. This woman was buying a painting. She turned and smiled at me as she walked out the door with her artwork. Tall and slender, with long blond hair cascading down her shoulders. She is wearing a white tank top, dark blue shorts and is drop-dead gorgeous.

by Mark Neracher
Available now on Amazon: https://a.co/d/epAONUF

When are you officially in over your head?

A struggling author never expected his novel in progress to uncover anything more than the secret to becoming a bestseller. But when his fiancée disappears, he fears it’s because the deadly plot in his work of fiction is coming true.

After witnessing the kidnapping of his fiancée during an assassination attempt on a political candidate, author Max North finds himself on the run from an unknown enemy…and from the FBI when he learns the US government has accused him of stealing and selling classified information.
While on a quest to clear his name and save the woman he loves, he uncovers an oddly familiar global conspiracy surrounding the ultimate weapon of mass destruction, one with the potential to eradicate millions and leave no chemical trace.
During an explosive run for his life, Max struggles to make sense of the similarities with his novel—especially the weapon he uses on China—finally gaining the upper hand in this global adventure once he realizes that all the clues to the deadly caper of the powerful people who kidnapped Julianna can be found in the pages of the political thriller…that he’s writing.

Steve Rush | 14 comments My latest novel, Lethal Impulse, is on presale and scheduled for release October 16, 2024.

Here's what other authors have said about it:

Steve Rush covers all the bases in Lethal Impulse. The author gives the reader a complex protagonist, a former police detective now a minister, who is drawn into solving a tangled web of murders in his small town. The mix of police procedure, emotional family entanglements, and romance is sure to rivet readers.
~ Susan Vaughan, Author of Always a Suspect

Lethal Impulse is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that weaves authenticity with a high stakes murder investigation. This is one read you won't want to put down. - Evie Jacobs, romantic suspense author

Told with rich and rhythmic prose reminiscent of David Baldacci, Lethal Impulse is a fascinating look into the world of forensic investigation. The author, Steve Rush, was a homicide detective and the chief forensic investigator for a national consulting firm, which made the reading experience like a ride-along with a seasoned law enforcement professional in the midst of a risky case. Five stars! —Patrick Weill, author

Here is the blurb:

He’s riddled with guilt. She’s annoyed with the status quo.
The death of a crime boss’s daughter forces Detective Neil Caldera to leave NYC. He seeks refuge in the tranquil embrace of a small town, where he finds himself entangled in the labyrinth of a teenage girl’s murder.
Tess Fleishman’s pale skin and extreme weight loss portrays a disease she wants others to see. While inside, a compulsion for Neil fuels her passion to have him, or destroy him.
As Neil delves into the heart of the town's secrets, will truth deliver solace? Or will Tess prevail?

Will you add Lethal Impulse to your "want to read" shelf?
