Dana S. | 9 comments Can anyone recommend historical fiction set in the later Carolingian empire: 843-911? This seems to be a much neglected era.

Rob Edmunds | 1 comments That's a really good question. I've come across this list which you might find helpful.

I'm afraid I haven't read any of them as yet but Alan Massie's Charlemagne and Roland looks quite intriguing. I'm curious about Iain Pears The Dream of Scipio too, particularly to what extent the Scipio in the title might relate to Scipio Africanus.

-----------
Thanks for this list. Nothing on it seems to be related to my actual query (Carolingians post 843); but a lot of other interesting stuff, including a lot i've already read.

Alan Van'T | 2 comments Dana, might I recommend my book? It's historical fiction (I have a masters in history) in 890 AD France, about two relic thieves in the middle of Northmen invaders and the civil wars after the fall of Charles the Bald.

Eternal Light of the Crypts (Lux Aeterna De Cryptae): A Historical Fiction in the Ruins of Charlemagne’s Empire

Allan Massie's "Charlemagne" was quite good.
