This is a prequel where the author introduces us to the main couple of the first book of the series The Draft "Renegade Ruin" which will be released in the spring of 2024.
This story starts at Willow's New Year's Eve party to raise money for her charity, they have a somewhat bumpy encounter and they feels the attraction from the first moment and oh boy, these two were pure dynamite, I liked Bishop cheering Willow up and defending her plus the spicy scenes in this little book are the icing on the cake and that man's mouth? honestly men written by women are the only ones worth it.
I already want it to be 2024 just to get to know these characters better, plus that ending? I NEED ANSWERS!!! It was a short story but I loved every moment of it as the author said: spicy with plot and she was right.

If you read That One Night by Emily Rath then you will love this!! This gave me all the feels from that book and more. Bishop *swoons* the communication in this book was 🤌🏻 the spice 10/10. Can I get the next book asap please??

This may have been a prequel novella but this story will be living rent free in my mind until the next book comes out! I loved it SO freakin much!!!
It starts out with the most perfect meet cute- seriously one of the best I’ve read in a long time. Bishop is so damn endearing. He’s a total heartthrob.
That first kiss. THEN THE WINK. Be still my heart.
And then we get to the sexy time. Ooooo boy is it hot in here?! Because I’m sweating. 🥵
I didn’t think a novella could pack so much heat, depth, and affect me this much. And in true baseball fashion, we’re thrown a curve ball at the end that had me gasping. I need the next book. Now.

This was the first book by Hayden that I got to read but my GOD it won't be the last. This novella was AMAZING and I'm honestly mad that it was only like 116 pages. I need more Willow and Bishop, more Renegades, more EVERYTHING about this world and I need it now. March is way too far away.
Midnight Renegade is a prequel novella for Hayden's upcoming Draft series that follows Willow York - daughter of the Renegade's owner - and Bishop Lawson, star catcher for the Renegades baseball team. He's attending a fundraiser that Willow is organizing and the two of them get locked out on a cold balcony together. With Bishop going through a divorce and Willow finding out her boyfriend was cheating on her, the two decide to have one steamy night together.
And. What. A. Night.
Bishop is a MAN and knows how to treat a woman right. He is also not afraid to have toys as teammates and we love that in a man. But THE LIL CLIFFY AT THE END UGH. It's going to make the wait over the next four months so hard because I just want to dive into the next book. I need to know what's going to happen and how Willow and Bishop are going to come back together.

I fell in love with these characters from the first page, I swear! What a sweet little treat this novella was. It did what it came out to do and that was give you all the spice, all the little details and info (about Bishops tattoos for his siblings 🥹) and leaving you on that cliffhanger like that?! Shheeesh ! 🥵
I’m seriously swooning over Bishop and Willow, and we LOVE a consent daddy with a pierced 🍆😌

So this one is a prequel novella, and therefore rather short, but it acts as one long, hot teaser to the first book of the series that we will be getting soon. In this novella, we get an introduction to our two main characters, both of whom are sadly the victims of recent cheating (one more recent than the other), and the novella is basically a fleshed out account of what happened New Year’s night. And it is SPICY. I’m glad this was separated into a novella because I want all 100 something pages of details of one night, and not just a condensed version. I can’t wait until the first book! I won’t be mad about the cliffhanger since it is a prequel novella…but I’m definitely on the edge of my seat!

Willow and Bishop, all the New Year's Eve fireworks in an epic fashion! One night, that's all it's supposed to be but you can feel the connection between the two vibrate through the pages. ;)
I could not love these two characters more - the emotions they convey in the first moments of meeting, the idea that think they really will be satisfied with the one night (and be ruined for anyone else thereafter), such a perfect mix. The way Bishop instantly feels protective of Willow had me swooning. Willow's tenderness with him in return during their conversations had me rooting for them.
This New Year's Eve novella had me captivated from the beginning and I cannot wait to know more of Willow and Bishop's story.

Need a hot and spicy sports romance novella that you can read in less than a day? Midnight Renegade was a great short read that got me all kinds of excited for the full length sports romance to be released in the spring! For as short as it is, it was well-written, had great character-building, and did a great job setting up the plot while also throwing in some HOT spice.
When pro catcher Bishop attends a fundraising gala at a New York hotel on New Years Eve, he is looking to make an appearance and leave as fast as possible. He doesn't anticipate getting locked out on a balcony with his team's owner's daughter Willow. Though he initially assumes she's a typical snobby heiress, he quickly learns that she's a genuinely good person - and she's reeling after discovering her boyfriend cheating on her right AND freaking out over having to give a speech at the gala. Bishop easily commiserates as he's going through a messy divorce, and eventually they agree to one night of no strings attached fun. Despite the amazing s3x, by the end of the night, they both don't really want things to end - until Bishop awakens to some horrible news... and Willow is gone.
Ooh y'all, I'm all about Bishop. Hot older MMC who just wants someone who loves and appreciates him, yet he keeps getting burned. Cinnamon roll who's into dirty talking AND has piercings?! Yes, please. And I loved Willow too. She's also really been through it, but she absolutely deserves someone like Bishop. Note that this book is a prequel novella, so it ends on a BIG cliffhanger! Pretty sure I can see where the story is going, and there's a HEA to be found in the future, but things are left pretty unsettled so keep that in mind.

Oh my gosh, I devoured this novella! Bishop and Willow brought me so many feels. I love Bishops golden boy personality and how he made Willow feel.
The spice was sooooo good and the New York new year setting perfection! I cannot wait for the full length to come out so I can see where this pair end up!! Solidly rooting for them!

Where are more stars??!! Hayden hit this one out of the park for real and I can’t wait for more of Willow and Bishop! This novella was so freaking good!! I am hooked on Bishop and easily added him to my book boyfriend list (🪜pierced, tattooed, and a dirty mouth…🥵🫠). I love how Willow is coming into her confidence, putting herself first after her ex tried to take all of that from her, and Bishop who loves with all he has and has no problem putting her needs above his own. They have chemistry that is off the charts and the spice is so melty! I don’t have many sports romance books under my belt but give me all of this series! I am fully invested and I can’t wait to read what happens next, especially after that mini cliffy she left us on. It has checked all my boxes and I want to instantly read it again!

But how…How did @haydenlocke manage to make me so addicted and fall in love so hard with Bishop and Willow. I can't comprehend, it's insta lust done PERFECTLY, I was so consumed by their story. This is a prequel novella to their full story, I want and need more!
They were both such beautiful characters, I really adore them as a whole and separately. Bishop is so swoon worthy and the way he calls her Kitten had me melting 🫠. The spice between both was off the charts, the chemistry ugh I'm in love with these two.

They were both such beautiful characters, I really adore them as a whole and separately. Bishop is so swoon worthy and the way he calls her Kitten had me melting 🫠. The spice between both was off the charts, the chemistry ugh I'm in love with these two.

I guess I’m living in my novella era, cause I’ve read some good ones in the past few weeks, with this one being my favorite!! It is sweet and it is SPICY. It’s got heart and heat. Bishop is my new favorite baseball player…the swoon was at an an all time high with this guy. And have I mentioned this spice? 🔥🔥🔥
It’s a quick read, but a true prequel. It gave just enough to know there was a full story to come, which is not easy to do, especially in a one night stand story! It ended on a cliffhanger and when I tell you I want the next book NOW, I am not exaggerating! I’m anticipating this to be one of my new favorite sports series!

Pleeeenty of spice in this novella for my smut-loving heart. I mean the whole book is basically a one-night stand so it makes sense.
Bishop is a star baseball player going through a divorce. His wife was a gold digging ho who cheated in him, and he ignored all the red flags AND his best friend’s warnings because he loved her. So he’s determined not to make the same mistake again. Problem is he’s a romantic at heart. He doesn’t want flings and meaningless sex, he still wants to find the one.
Enter: Willow. Her dad owns the baseball team - because of course he does - and Willow is throwing the fundraiser they’re all at this fine New Year’s Eve. She is the opposite of a gold digging ho though, because the only gold she’s digging for is donations for charity. So far, so good. Extra bonus, she’s also just come out of a relationship where she was cheated on, so they have that shitstorm in common.
Willow and Bishop end up getting locked out in the terrace for a short while, and fall into instalust. Oh by the way, Bishop only filed for divorce like 6 weeks ago, and Willow has been single for about 15 minutes since she just found out that her fiancé is cheating on her.
Anywho, they spend the night banging under the agreement that it’s just for the night. Except as the night progresses, neither one wants it to end. But they don’t voice it because they’ve literally known each other for mere hours and claiming strong feelings would be insanity.
Many orgasms, a surprise ladder of the Jacob’s variety, and a bag full of adult toys later, and we come to a cliffhanger ending! Because this is a prequel novella. And Hayden Locke is evil like that.
There are a couple of small things I perceived differently to how they were meant/intended. But enough to make me stop and go back to reread the first chapter in case I’d misread or misremembered - I know it’s a novella but you’d be amazed how my brain skips around sometimes 🤣
The main one being her age when her mum died. The way she talks about her mum’s disdain for her curves and and ambitions led me to believe she must have been at least 15/16…but she was a preteen. Now I know some kids develop earlier but it just didn’t feel right to me. But if she’d been older than preteen then the braids story wouldn’t make sense so…bit of a catch 22 there.
And there is one mistake but I’ve reported it to the author so hopefully that’ll be rectified before general release!

Io non smetterò mai di dire quanto queste novelle quasi completamente smut siano utili sia per il bocco sia per introdurre le storie che verranno nei prossimi libri!
In questo caso appunto troviamo una novella spicy che introduce la storia dei due protagonisti che vedremo nel primo libro di questa nuovissima serie su una squadra di baseball di New York.
Willow è la figlia del proprietario dei Renegade, una squadra di baseball che sta avendo molto successo. Lei però ha creato qualcosa di suo con la squadra come sponsor: una fondazione che aiuta le persone in difficoltà.
Bishop è uno dei giocatori di punta della squadra, è appena uscito da un divorzio parecchio tormentato e non si è ancora ripreso del tutto.
I due si incontrano la sera di Capodanno a un gala, e quella notte cambierà completamente le loro vite.
HO AMATO TUTTO! Mi è quasi dispiaciuto che fosse solo una novella e non il romanzo per intero, perché volevo assolutamente di più di Bishop e Willow, mi sono divorata questa novella in un pomeriggio ed è stato bellissimo.
Mi ha ricordato un po’ “That one night” di Emily Rath, le vibes sono esattamente le stesse, metteteci anche l’atmosfera magica di New York la sera di capodanno che con la sua palla di Times Square che sta per cadere crea una combo non indifferente.
Mi è piaciuta tantissimo la scrittura dell’autrice, ti cattura in ogni singola frase e vuoi sempre di più.
Di solito quando si scrivono queste novelle si rischia di concentrarsi troppo sulla parte spicy della notte dimenticando di introdurre realmente in personaggi e gettare le basi per il romanzo successivo. Qui invece ci troviamo davanti a un lavoro fatto benissimo: non solo abbiamo le basi e la caratterizzazione dei personaggi, ma anche tutto quello che gira intorno alla squadra e vari personaggi secondari.
Non posso far altro quindi che consigliarvela assolutamente! E’ ancora troppo poco per esprimermi sui personaggi, ma Bishop ha tutte le carte in regola per essere il prossimo book boyfriend con i fiocchi!

I really enjoyed this novella and I cannot wait for Renegade Ruin because miss Ma’am, you didn’t just leave us with that ending!!!! Did I have a feeling that that might happen? Yes I did! But I was hoping I was wrong 😭😭.
This spicy novella starts off with Willow finding out that her boyfriend is cheating on her. Then Willow ends up getting stuck in the balcony at her own charity gala ( talk about bad luck).
Bishop, who is a baseball player for Willow’s fathers baseball team, ends up also getting stuck in the same balcony after he goes looking for Willow after her father asked him to (at least she got stuck in the balcony with a hot baseball player 🤭😂). They obviously end up getting help from a worker, and you’ll think that this is where their night ends, but nope there is more.
Bishop Lawson is in the process of divorcing his gold digging ex-wife, so he isn’t on the look out for anything that serious, until he met Willow. However, when his best friend Jackson dares him to give himself the New Year to just be single, well Bishop agrees.
After that one hot and unforgettable night, Bishop soon realizes that one night will never be enough when it comes to Willow. This is were the cliffhanger comes in and ruins everything for Willow and Bishop 😭😭!

Midnight Renegade is a prequel to The Draft series, and personally, it did its job perfectly, introducing characters, starting to world-build, and giving up the premise of a storyline that has me intrigued and wanting to see how it plays out.
The storyline is very fast-paced and draws you straight in, mixing a good amount of backstory with the present day so you feel like you really get to know the characters and their world. This is helped massively by the dual POV narrative, where we get to explore both characters' thoughts, feelings, and actions.
As the daughter of the owner of the Renegade baseball team, it would be easy to assume Willow would be shallow and interested in only money and power, and that's an assumption Bishop makes until a chance encounter on New Year's Eve shows him he was wrong. There's an instant attraction between the two of them, and as they promise that it's just for one night, they fall into each other, but that is a promise neither of them should have made as they both secretly want more but feel like life is against them.
I loved the characters that the author has created. Both Willow and Bishop seem perfect for each other, and I found myself really hoping they would wake up on New Year's Day and decide they wanted more, but as prequels go, Hayden drops a cliffhanger, leaving things up in the air and questions I can't wait to see hopefully answered. I look forward to seeing how the 'dare' with Jackson plays out—is it fair to wait a year if you have a chance of happiness? And what's going to happen with both their exes?

I absolutely loved seeing where Bishop and Willow's story began!! Midnight Renegade is their origin story, continuing one year later in Renegade Ruin with a completely different vibe, and although I read this after, it didn't take away from my experience at all.
Willow York aspired higher, trying to be more than what society demanded of her and fighting every step of the way. I loved how she became stronger and more confident with Bishop by her side, asking for what she wanted and going after it and how she opened herself up and let Bishop in.
“The magnetic spark between us—I don’t know if it can last, but I’m willing to chase it into the morning light.”
Bishop Lawson was the perfect golden retriever, a true romantic who we wore his heart on his sleeve and with a deliciously filthy mouth that I couldn't get enough of! I loved how he dared Willow to be herself, how he took care of her and always put her first, giving her exactly what she wanted and needed. I loved how Bishop and Willow let go for just one night, giving each other everything, exploring the possibility of what could be.

Fresh starts and new beginnings, a lightning strike of unexpected emotions, the uncertainty and doubt of what happens when one night starts to feel like more. How do you walk away when it feels like there's no turning back? Bishop and Willow will always be made for each other in my eyes and this was such a fun and spicy addition to their story!

Wonderful connection, delicious spice and a jaw-dropping cliffhanger!

This is such a wonderful, sexy and surprisingly emotional prequel novella. It was a short read, but it was the perfect set-up for the full-length novel coming next year.
She’s elegance and grace with a hint of independence and hot mess. And that was before she opened her mouth. Once she did, I was a goner.
Willow was used to present a strong front to the outside world, but inside, she struggles with the attention, the expectations and her place in the society world. When she meets Bishop, she is instantly drawn to him, and the fact she can just be herself with him, without being judged. I love Willow - she is determined, but she is also a bit broken, but the glimpses we see of the real Willow was just amazing. I think she will really soar once she truly finds her wings - away from awful ex-boyfriends, expectations, and people overlooking or underestimating her.
Bishop is going to do exactly as he promised. Except he’s not only going to wreck me. He’s going to ruin me.
Bishop was just swoony! He is not a typical jock, but so sweet and just wants that all-consuming love, that he unfortunately struggles to find, given his position as a famous baseball player. The way he knows what Willow needs and is so eager to give her exactly that (and so much more) is so great. Also, he has a strong possessive and protective side regarding Willow, even after having just met!
“Willow, please. Dance with me so I don’t follow him and break every bone in his fingers for touching you when you clearly didn’t want him to.”
Since this story just happens in one evening/night (New Years Eve) I didn’t expect so much emotion, but there was so much more depth to this story and to Willow and Bishop and I am just eager to read their full story, especially after the cliffhanger-ish ending!

And can I just say, the spice was perfect! The use of toys, the creativity, the respect and attentiveness from them both, the ratio between spice and actual conversations and story - all of it just perfect!

This was my first ever read by @hayden_locke_author and needless to say, she’s got me hooked!!! I have to start by saying this book does end in a cliffhanger (ikr, how freaking rude!!) so if you’re one that hates cliffhangers, wait until the first novel releases!
Bishop Lawson is star catcher for pro-baseball team the NYC Renegades. Willow York is NYC socialite and daughter of Renegades owner. After meeting by chance at a New Year’s Eve event, sparks fly and there’s no denying the immediate attraction these two have for each other. 🥵 After bonding over their recent failed relationships, Bishop & Willow allow themselves to submit to their chemistry and promise each other one night together. 😉
I loved these characters from first pages and am so excited to learn more of their stories and their development in the full novel! The way Bishop quickly became so protective over Willow was SO SWOONY and the spicy scenes in this novella were top tier!! 🔥 I have a feeling this is just the tip of the iceberg!! The cliffhanger had me on the edge of my seat and now I’m itching to get the rest of Bishop & Willow’s story!! March cannot come soon enough!

This was my first ever read by @hayden_locke_author and needless to say, she’s got me hooked!!! I have to start by saying this book does end in a cliffhanger (ikr, how freaking rude!!) so if you’re one that hates cliffhangers, wait until the first novel releases!
Bishop Lawson is star catcher for pro-baseball team the NYC Renegades. Willow York is NYC socialite and daughter of Renegades owner. After meeting by chance at a New Year’s Eve event, sparks fly and there’s no denying the immediate attraction these two have for each other. 🥵 After bonding over their recent failed relationships, Bishop & Willow allow themselves to submit to their chemistry and promise each other one night together. 😉
I loved these characters from first pages and am so excited to learn more of their stories and their development in the full novel! The way Bishop quickly became so protective over Willow was SO SWOONY and the spicy scenes in this novella were top tier!! 🔥 I have a feeling this is just the tip of the iceberg!! The cliffhanger had me on the edge of my seat and now I’m itching to get the rest of Bishop & Willow’s story!! March cannot come soon enough!
