OMG... I LOVED THIS SO MUCH! I need book 2 now!!!! 🖤

Fourth Wing meets Serpent & The Wings of Night meets Divergent. It's a freaking beautiful mix of all three of my favorite books and I couldn't be more obsessed.

This book was so addicting. I actually forced myself to put it down a few times so I could just savor it. Wolf is legit perfection and is easily one of my favorite mmc's now.

CHAPTER 26 🥹🥹🥹

Quotes:
"Anything for my deadly huntress."

"I needed him like I needed air. I would crawl for him if he asked. I would beg for him; he only needed to say the words."

If you love:
Fourth Wing
Serpent & The Wings of Night
Hunger Games
Divergent
... you will LOVE this book.

-rivals to lovers
-slow burn
-dark (ish) new adult fantasy
-obsessive/ dark mmc

UPDATE:
Ok now that I’m not rambling off a review at 2am… this book absolutely had issues. I hated the ending. But I still read a 450ish page book in one sitting because it kept me entertained. Was this original? Not at all. Did I care? Nope. It’s angsty, it has no world building, but the characters were messy and fun. A friend compared my feelings to watching a silly movie and that’s basically what this was. It was a good time if you don’t think too hard and just enjoy it for what it is!

****

It’s uh… 2am. 5stars.

Was this perfect? No absolutely not. Did I care? Not a single bit.

It was somehow The Serpent and the Wings of Night meets the hunger games meets fourth wing (for the academy) with a sprinkle of crescent city. There were definitely things taken from other books but not in a way that was bad? If that makes sense?

It was addicting and I obviously couldn’t put it down to have read the entire thing tonight into the early hours of the morning. Idk maybe I’ll feel different in the morning but for now it remains 5stars.

I received an ARC for this book for a fair, honest review. There will be heavy spoilers in this.
This may seem like a negative review, but I specifically gave it three stars because it DID pull my interest so much I finished it in one sitting and it was fun(ish) to read.
This is a fast paced, dark fantasy book with angels, vampires, fae, assassins, magical academy, etc. I think this book COULD have been five stars for me given the plot, but it fell flat. Im going to be pinpointing just some of the things that were missing out of it and what bothered me the most.

My biggest problem with this book was the lack of proper world building. We get bits and pieces of information, but nothing is ever elaborated on.
For example the Moira Seminary, it’s an academy specifically for people trying to get into The Golden City. You have to pass a series of challenges and undergo extensive physical and magic training to get into the city. Our MFC is sent there on a mission by the assassin lord and it’s never told what the mission is. I’m assuming that will be brought up in book two. Anyways, nearly the entirety of the book is spent there and while it’s set in a classroom a handful of times, we basically learn nothing. A dash of information on vampires, mostly as a foreshadowing. We learn about Fae wings, but just the once and not in great detail. “The Bond” is brought up and the Headmistress claims no one is learning about it yet because they’re not ready. That’s all, that’s all that’s said until the main characters bond at the end of the book and the MFC says “This is how the bond worked.” Also very little is told about the differences in magic, it’s just kind of put out there and then everyone starts using it. Except our MFC who tries it once and says “smoke filled my senses, darkness filled my veins, I panicked. My eyes snapped open”. That is also not elaborated on throughout the book. She can conjure fire, just once, until the end when she suddenly can. There’s nothing about any major trials to compete in, besides the very first one and then some knife throwing. The physical training is shown a couple of times, but not enough. They’re all told that there is no killing outside of the classroom, our MFC does end up doing this out of self defense and has the MMC hide the body. The Headmistress eventually finds the body, MFC is freaking out about being caught, andddd nothing else. That’s it.

We essentially know nothing of what the MFC looks like besides her “darkly curly hair”, then learn at the end she has blue eyes. Again, the world building lacked that we didn’t even know this. The friendships felt forced and the most that is learned about her friends is Lanson and at the end, more about Wolf. For a person who is mistrustful of everyone and is solely focused on her mission for Lord, it’s contradicted in her near immediate trust in all her friends, especially Lanson. It really lacked consistency in her personality. I found myself detached from the story in this department as all the relationships felt forced. I just needed more, more from all of it.

Overall, this felt like a rushed version of The Serpent and The Wings of Night. The plot twist could’ve been guessed from the very beginning. It was fast paced, but felt rushed and focused too much on the pace that we miss out on so much of the story. I’d like to read the next book, but not entirely sure after this one.

One last thing, please let there be a different phrase for the next book. Reading “Hells” nearly every page, sometimes multiple times in one paragraph, was irritating

Wow, I could not put this one down and I cannot wait to add the physical book as a trophy to my shelf.

This book has everything, vampires, vampire hunters, fallen angels, an elite academy, action, drama, romance, spice, one bed(room), a brooding shadow daddy… oh the list goes on!

The story is fast paced to keep you interested and needing more but slow energy to understand all the world building. There are so many twist and turns so buckle up and prepare yourself for a wild ride.

However that ending, prepare yourself to cuss out Emily Blackwood because how dare she leave is hanging like that. She might as well have hung the noose ready for us, because I’m not going to survive the wait until book two.

I’m honestly shocked at all of the 5 star/rave reviews for this. This started out interesting but never reached any potential at all. The world building was nonexistent, and the dialogue was extremely juvenile. I wanted to like the MC’s but they were both so boring.

I highly doubt I’ll pick this back up and continue on at a later date.

OMG ♾️ freaking stars. Everyone needs to stop what they are reading and immediately pick this up. I’m kicking myself for waiting to read this. It was so freaking good. I picked this up this morning and could not stop. I told myself to put it down and savor it. Nope, couldn’t be done. It was too good. Had to finish it.

This is Fourth Wing meets Serpent and the Wings of Night meets Hunger Games. Seriously so freaking good. It will be one of my top reads this year, hands down.

Wolf- are you kidding me. That man is perfection. No one can change my mind.

Huntyr- what a bad ass FMC. I loved her so dang much.

There are fae, vampires, angels, magic, trials, a possessive MMC, top freakin tier banter, tension,….Oh, and we get a “who did this to you moment”. Like what else could we possibly need? 🫠🫠

Favorite moments:

“Of course I was watching you. I couldn’t look away for a moment, even if I tried.”

“Careful, Huntress. There are many things I could do to you with this dagger, but making you bleed is not one of them.”

“Anything for my deadly huntress.”

“My heart bows to you and you only, Huntress.”

Fourth Wing x Serpent & the Wings of Night? Maybe if you ordered it on Temu. The FMC is so contradicting and unrelatable. There was exactly 0 world building and the storyline had major holes until a twinkle of development in the last 20 pages. I didn’t connect with a single character or any of their extremely rushed relationships. The idea was there but poorly executed and written. 2.25⭐️

I’m typically a quick reader, but this book took about 3 days for me to get into. However, the plot premise of vampires, vampire hunters, and a deadly training academy was enough to spark my interest to continue on.

The pitfalls:
•The names of the characters- Huntyr- Lord- Wolf. The names were a little juvenile which made it hard to initially get into.
•This book hit a wide variety of tropes- some of which did not feel naturally occurring and instead only happened because it’s trending.
•The writing was a little juvenile at times- especially when trying to portray the FMC as a “bad ass.” “And I laughed and laughed and laughed.” This is in relation to a fight/action scene. It just read as cringey and trying very hard to showcase the FMC in a certain “delusional yet strong girl”narrative.

The highlights:
•While the names were hard to read, I did actually enjoy all the character relationships between friends and love interests.
•The book has a well down slow-burn tension to it. I enjoyed the romantic tension between Huntyr and Wolf.
•The action plot is great! Once the book gets to the academy, the action begins to suck you in. Likewise, the characterization of all the characters really moves the book along and ups the stakes at the academy.
•The plot picks up at about 60% of the way through and does actually become interesting.
•The premise is a great read. Vampires, angels, deadly training academy.
•The ending was just WOW. I’m a groveling girl so I’m excited for the next book to come out.

All in all- an okay read. 3/5 stars.

Thanks to the author for an eARC! The thoughts and opinions above are my honest opinions.

“But it didn't matter who he was. It didn’t matter who I was, either. We were simply pawns, simply weapons in this wicked, dark world. With one swift motion, I could end his life. We were all that fragile.”

I feel like this quote, which is from page 14, by the way, is a good way to describe the overall feel of this story. Our FMC, Huntyr, very much feels like she only exists to be a weapon and she doesn’t seem to mind it so much in the beginning. Like most fantasy novels, we find out that all is not what it seems. As the story unfolds, so does Huntyr’s view on the world and her own existence. It was nice to watch her grow into herself in a way she was never allowed to before. And Wolf, our MMC, is… the epitome of a book boyfriend.

“Careful, killer. I like my females violent, you know.”

I mean… come on. Between the words that come out of his mouth and the clear protectiveness he has over Huntyr from day one, I was sold on adding him to the roster.

However, I gave this 4 stars for a couple reasons. I feel like by the end, I still don’t know a ton about Huntyr’s backstory/personality. And I don’t mean the things she doesn’t remember from her childhood, I mean her upbringing, her personality outside of what she was shaped into by Lord. Does she have any hobbies? Any favorite things? Any quirks? And even the things we did know about her, like how untrusting she is and how singularly focused on her goal she was, she seemed to stray from that mindset and contradicted what we knew about her. She made friends easy enough, put her trust in people. That all felt like the opposite of what we were told about her. I also felt like we weren’t given enough information about why she was sent to Moira. It was all so hush hush but I figured we’d eventually find out and we didn’t. And finally, the twists were a bit predictable. But considering it’s the first in the series, I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt and hoping we get these things in book two.

Overall, I enjoyed it and I was so honored that I was able to receive an eARC. Thank you Emily and Lauren!

“Welcome to Moira Seminary. I hope you’re all prepared to die.”

Tropes:
-forced proximity
-deadly competition
-magic school
-enemies to lovers
-touch her and ☠️
-magic trials

Fae, vampires and winged celestials. Our FMC has Buffy the vampire slayer vibes. Huntyr is sent on a mission to infiltrate the Golden City and the only way to gain entry is through Moira Seminary. She must learn how to wield magic and survive her dangerous companions, all while staying under the radar. Nothing is as it seems and no one can be trusted.

I couldn’t put this down. I hardly slept and now I’m sure to have a book hangover. That was so good! This book is great for fans of Fourth Wing, Throne of Glass, and Serpent and the wings of night.

Favorite quotes:
“There was nothing but him; dark and dangerous, glorious and confusing.”

“Careful, Huntress. There are many things I could do with this dagger, but making you bleed is not one of them.”

“Are you here to torture me some more with your pretty fucking lies?”

Thank you to Emily Blackwood for allowing me the opportunity to ARC read this book.

An amazing start to a brand new series. We meet Huntyr, a vampire assassin trained since childhood by her mentor Lord. She will di anything to make him proud, so when she is sent on a mission to the Golden City for him, she doesn’t hesitate.

To be accepted to go to the Golden City, one must train and pass all the challenges at Moira. Huntyr thinks she will easily get through them all, except that she must play a low-key role and pretend to be an untrained orphan from a poor city. But her roommate Wolf can’t be fooled, he knows she is more than capable to fight her way through.

I absolutely enjoyed this read, I probably read it within two days because of how invested I was in the story. I loved meeting Huntyr and see her learn at Moira. Besides learning about the Golden City, she also learned that she just wants to be loved and have friends, the question is if she thinks it’ll be worth it at the end.

My favorite part was Wolf, he will be your new fave book boyfriend. He immediately is into Huntyr, protecting her, and showing her how much she is worth. If you enjoy tropes like rivals to lovers, one room, academia vibes, vampires, angels and fae this is the book for you.

This book was abso-freakin-mazing :) this review will not have any spoilers.

I was lucky enough to be one of the ARC readers considered for this books pre release and I am so grateful that I was. I devoured this book in two sittings and told every human in this household not to disturb me lol. If you loved zodiac academy and serpent and the wings this book is for you. The plot moved forward quickly, but the world building was not compromised. I am a big fan of the importance of character development and world building and this book did not graze over either superficially.

I his book has everything true fantasy fans will devour. We had vampires, vampire hunters, archangels and fallen angels. Assassins, people. ASSASIN FEMALES! Our favourite kind of bad ass FMC. There is a magic system in place and trials to be had.

I laughed, cringed, cried, threw my phone and cried some more. Ending in a huge gasp and slamming the book shut because that cliffy is intense. This book has lived rent free in my mind all day. Your girl is not well people. How am I going to wait now to find out whether it happens or not.

There are some swoony quotes and some truly devastating quotes. Sneak peek of a few of my favourites that won’t give away too much of the plot:
-“too much darkness lingered in this world”.
-“You are a weapon Huntyr. A sword. There is no room for error “.
-“and I hated him the most because I didn’t hate him at all”.

Do your self a favour and get all up in Huntyr and Wolfs business and fall in love with this world as much as I have. Well done. Emily this book is AMAZING. I cannot wait to see where our babies go next.

I cannot give this book enough stars!

If you loved Fourth Wings action and academy setting and Crown of Nyaxia's death trials and slow burn forbidden romance, then this book is for you!

If you are in a book slump and need fast-paced twists, turns, love, betrayal, and 🌶 then read this book!

This is one you will not be able to put down! My only complaint is that I did not want it to end! It leaves you wanting so much more! Literally... where's the next chapter... 😄

I can't wait to see where Emily Blackwood will take this new epic fantasy-romance series! Wings So Wicked, the first book in the series is definitely a homerun! And has just made Emily a new must-read author!

wolf can have my children.

basically, this is a fantasy romance book following huntyr who is a vampyre hunter and wolf who is a ‘fallen’ angel. this essentially means he has done something bad which has turned his wings black and took away some of his powers. just for context!

huntyr and wolf become roommates at the academy they both attend to train them to get into the golden city which is basically like the capitol from the hunger games. it’s basically where all the angels and privileged people are.

the TENSION between the two…!!!!! and the amount of times he saves her and protects her. literally wanted to sit in the bath tub with my toaster.

as for the plot. it was good! i think it could have been executed a bit better. i can’t believe i’m saying this, but i think it could have been longer. definitely felt really rushed. would’ve also loved to have more of a description of the physical appearances of the characters i don’t really know what anyone but wolf looks like lol. would have also loved a bit more details of the classes - i know we got some, but would have enjoyed more! for example, how fourth wing was, that’s what i thought was going to occur in this book. i definitely think the overall plot itself could have been a bit more detailed as well!

huntyr did irritate me a little bit but if you can get past that you will enjoy this book i promise. she was just very naive. she kept talking about how she didn’t trust anyone and how tough she is blah blah blah meanwhile a boy in her class shows her the SLIGHTEST bit of attention and all her secrets are spilled i was like what. she was also oblivious to how wolf was fully in love with her since the day he met her. anyway besides that she’s a bad a** fmc! would love for some of wolf’s pov moving forward!

definitely read if you’re looking for a quick fantasy romance with fae, vampyres, and angels! involves a school-setting! fmc and mmc are roommates and we’ve got some enemies to friends to lovers vibes happening.

*I received an Advanced Reader Copy of Wings So Wicked in exchange for an honest review*

I have read Emily Blackwoods books for a while now (The Fae of Rewyth Series) and I enjoyed that series a lot so when I was selected for her ARC team I was beyond ecstatic especially when I heard of the newest project by this author and that I would get to be part of it.

Wings so Wicked was a very quick read (finished it in a day) so if a quicker read that is the beginning of a new series about fae, vampyres, and angels this is absolutely the book for you.

While reading this book I definitely got Divergent meets Gild vibes in a good way. If you like either of those books this is right up your alley.

Wings so Wicked was a thrilling introduction into the newest Emily Blackwood world and the world of the Golden City. You'll be on the edge of your seat when you're reading this book between the betrayals, the will he won't he, and the overall plot of this book will leave you wanting more especially when you read that last page.

If you love:
He falls first
Angels/Vampyres/Fae
Trained assassin/vampyre hunter
Betrayal
Deadly Academy/Competition
Lost royalty

You'll have a great time in Huntyr's world.

Emily Blackwood’s ‘Wings So Wicked’ is an electrifying fantasy, crafted with elements that capture the essence of an epic saga. Huntyr, our heroine, is not just a woman; she’s a storm cloaked in shadows, an assassin raised under the masterful Lord, Master of Assassins in Midgrave. Her journey takes us through a world riddled with blood-thirsty vampyres, ethereal angels, and the enigmatic fae.

The story moves at a pulse-pounding pace, intricately laced with rich world-building that doesn’t sacrifice depth for speed. Each page crackles with tension, peppered with twists that had me at the edge of my seat.

The dynamics between Huntyr and Wolf, the fallen angel who knows too much, evolve with a raw intensity that’s both thrilling and heart-rending. Their interactions range from razor-sharp tension to moments of unexpected vulnerability, creating a rivals-to-lovers arc that is both tantalizing and profound.

Blackwood ensnares with prose that’s both beautiful and brutal. And the cliffhanger? It left me breathless, haunted by the need to know what fate awaits these characters I’ve grown so attached to.

Blackwood has crafted an odyssey of darkness, desire, and destiny that will linger with you long after the final page is turned. A must-read for fans of heart-stopping fantasy and intricate narratives like the Crowns of Nyaxia series, Zodiac Academy, and Hallowed Games.

Thank you so much to Emily Blackwood for the ARC!

4.25 stars! I LOVED this book with similar vibes to Hush Hush, Fourth Wing, and The Serpent and the Wings of Night! It was fast paced with easy world building and will keep you turning the pages late into the night because you will not want to put it down!

Huntyr is a fierce bad@ss FMC trained to kill vampyres her entire life. She is sent on a mission to go to the academy and earn her spot into The Golden City. Upon arrival, she is forced to room with the delicious fallen angel, Wolf, who is the only one who knows about her assassin identity. The romance, the plot twists, the secrets revealed, the battles, and the tantalizing training scenes had me hooked! And that ending…. I’m holding my breath in need to know hell!

Read if you love:

~ Academy setting with magical trials

~ Rivals to lovers
~ Hidden identities and secrets

This book was a pleasant surprise! Emily did a pheromonal job of keeping me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. I was INVESTED in this characters she created and the world she built. With each new chapter, my mind was whirling with theories about where it would all go next.

The characters:
I loved the our FMC, Huntyr. She is a little rough around the edges given her childhood and the expectations put on her by a questionable father figure, but she is raw and real. I think she has some more growing as a character and I cannot wait to see it happen. She is tough, fierce, flawed, and completely relatable.

As for Wolf...oh, Wolf. I loved this surly with a gooey center MMC. He's got his own issues and his storyline is *chef's kiss,* but I loved watching his Huntyr's interactions. He stole a little bit of my heart by the end of the story.

The overall plot:
Emily does an amazing job of creating this stark world contrast by their Golden City (a happy nirvana like place where only good things happen...). I loved watching Huntyr and Wolf move through the seminary to try to achieve their place among the elites in the Golden City. It was also fascinating to watch how the other character handled this (think Hunger Games-esque ties and betrayals).Though I am concerned some of the characters we haven't heard about yet (damn that cliffhanger!). I can wait to see where the story goes. Overall, Emily fed the reader breadcrumbs about this world, luring them into a game of deceit, lies, trust and betrayal, hope and loss, and so much more.

I absolutely cannot wait for the second book!

I flew through this book and finished it in one sitting it was such a good read. Omg the cliffhanger on this book is killing me, I need the next book, which I can't wait to read. Those last few chapters had so many plot twists that it was a roller-coaster. 4.75/5 ✨
1/5 🌶️

Was it perfect? No. Did I devour it? Fuck yes.

1. I’m gonna need Huntyr to realize the badass she is and toss Lord to the side. It was kind of aggravating how she always thought of him BUT I do get it since that’s all she’s ever known.

2. Wolf Jasper? Labeled as my new book boyfriend. The tension and the confidence this man has is 🤌🏼🔥 Betrayal where..? Idk because I’ve been blinded by him.

3. I’m very excited for book two and I’m v upset I have to wait over a month for it 🥹

I'm gonna say it... Wings to Wicked is one of the best fantasy romance books I have picked up in a while, and your girl reads quite a few fantasy romance.

This book is absolutely a romantasy readers dream, it is set in a unique world where there are fae, vampyres, trained assassins and even fallen angels all taking center stage at a deadly combat/magic training academy where you either learn to fight and join the elite society of The Golden City or die trying. It is fast paced, full speed ahead, no stops from page one and you won't want to put the book down. Its enemies to lovers, touch her and die vibes with a tall broody fallen angel named Wolf who does and says things that will give you all the butterflies. He is definitely top book boyfriend of the year material. This book is just absolute perfection!!!! Fair warning though the cliffhanger is brutal so be prepared for that!
