3.5 All About the Trust Factor Stars
* * * 1/2 Spoiler Free-Right Now FREE!!!
When we are little, we first learn about trusting something will be there for us in many different ways.... it could be the first time we reach out to a hard surface... and try to pull ourselves up to stand... or as we try to learn how to walk. We try to gauge if we have the right measurement and feel the next place to put our hands... holding bit by bit...

And as children, we transfer the need to know things are there to support us to people... mothers, fathers and then eventually those we give our hearts to... We trust... we believe they will always be there...and when they aren't...when they turn away or lie or betray...insurmountable damage is done.

This is a story that examines this betrayal of trust... and whether a man disappointed by all the women in his life can overcome this hurt and open his heart.

It was a story with heart, focus and a natural feel. Another easy read from the Wildflower Ranch series.

I really liked this story. I liked the love that grew between Zane and Trinity. He was a rancher and she was a Speech Therapist that was helping who Zane thought was his nephew but turned out to be his son, Finn.

Also, in the midst of everything Zane’s deceased father had told Zane that his mother had died when Zane was about eight only to find out he’d lied to the poor kid and his mother was very much alive. I was glad the father was already dead when this book started; it saved me from wishing he were dead.

The thing I enjoyed a lot in this book was the desire Zane and Trinity felt for each other throughout the book. NOT lust but desire. There was no mention of breasts or erections or anything like that. It was how their feelings were described after they had kissed time and again. It was very nice, actually.

So, if you’re looking for sex, look elsewhere. They got into his bedroll, kissed and then it was the next day. No sex and no swearing. Rated G.

Fantastic read! Zane Nash has been dealt a tough life. Abandoned by his mother, an abusive father, and a girlfriend that ran off with his brother. So he's given up on life off his ranch except when it comes to his son Finn. For him he'll do anything. After Finn lost his mother he stopped talking. To help him Zane recruits local speech therapist Trinity Redfern to help him. Turns out she can help Zane too!

This is a wonderfully written story that left me with a huge smile on my face. I highly recommend this one.

This book has everything I want in a story. It has cowboys, a little boy, and romance. But that’s not all. It is written beautifully so that you are pulled into the story, wanting the best for everyone.

Zane Nash ran a successful ranch, but his personal life was not very good. He was very closed off and with good reason. His mother abandoned him as a child leaving him with a nasty father. Then, as an adult, his girlfriend ran off with his brother. Who can blame him for being reluctant to let anyone into his life? That attitude worked fine for him until he suddenly got custody of his 5-year-old nephew, Finn. After losing his parents, Finn was withdrawn and didn’t talk much. Zane wasn’t much of a talker either so he couldn’t help Finn in that area.

However, Zane found a summer program on bugs Finn was interested in, so he signed the boy up, hoping the interaction with other kids would help him. The program was run by Trinity Redfern who was also a speech therapist. Finn liked the program and liked Trinity. So did Zane. I was happy that Trinity was able to work on Finn’s speech while running the camp. Noticing the difference Trinity had made in Finn, Zane hired her to work with him for the rest of the summer. Staying at the ranch gave her constant interaction with Finn – and Zane. She made huge advances in helping Finn to verbalize his thoughts. Trinity even got Zane talking more and accepting his feelings. Wait until you see the wonderful romance between Zane and Trinity. It was hard for each of them to accept the relationship and be open with the other, but they found it was worth the struggle of getting over their painful pasts.

I liked the single-dad aspect of this story, and my heart broke for Finn. I recommend this to anyone who likes sweet romances.

I received this book as an e-ARC free from Netgalley. Below is my review.

Zane Nash (and yes, love the name) has issues. No really, you think you have issues? Zane's will top them, I promise. His mother's abandonment, his horrid father, his faithless girlfriend, and his back-stabbing brother combine to leave a man who has pretty much no faith in humanity. I mean, with a family like that, who needs humanity? Ouch!

But fate has conspired to give him one good thing, a little boy named Finn. And Finn gets all of Zane's love, whatever scraps his heart has left after all that go to Finn. But Finn has issues too: notably his parents' deaths. So, he's not a talker; which given Zane's own lack of loquaciousness, makes things a bit difficult.

Enter Trinity. She's got this great summer camp and it's really helping Finn. And Zane. Trinity's crazy for Finn and she's got her eyes on Zane. But he's not budging. But Trinity's got skillz, primarily her heart overflowing with love and her boundless curiosity. When Zane gets Trinity to his ranch, can he keep her there? Does he even want to? Well, yes, actually.

When Trinity's curiosity opens up doors long closed, can she heal all the wounded hearts? Well, yes, actually.

A sweet and gentle read that will make you sigh, but no sexy times.

I tried truly😥

God! I was sooooo bored! Neither does anything! Both come with preconceived notions about relationships which are anyways all lopsided and flawed. Then, they spend most of their time gently tiptoeing around each other. Finn is cute but that's not enough to carry one through the 150 pages.
There are also all these incidents around the Ranch that do nothing to the plot.

I liked this one, haven't read the others in this series but would probably read them. I loved Trinity, what a great character and nicely developed by the author. Zane as well, although his rough edges needed a serious filing and there were times I wanted to smack him, however his way with Finn made me cut him some slack. Good plot line although the bit of drama in the backstory of Zane and as it explains (sort of) his behavior meh... I could have lived without parts of that. Or maybe it was just the placement in the story. Nonetheless, I loved Trinity and Finn and that makes the book worth reading.

This was a surprisingly horrid Netgalley ARC. The material for the plot of Big Sky Cowboy was rather cookie-cutter: girl (speech therapist) meets boy (rancher with 5 year old son that hasn't spoken much since mother died); girl and boy try to hide their feelings; girl and boy realize they're in love with each other after 3-4 weeks of seemingly meaningless interaction; girl, boy and child ride off into the sunset.

I'm disappointed by quite a number of problems in the book. First, the two main characters rarely actually spoke to each other in the book. There were a lot of interesting conversations that took place, however, none of them were audible! Trinity and Zane were so intimidated by each other that they kept all their thoughts in their head. 0_o Secondly, there was NO DRAMA whatsoever. Most romances are predictable in that there is at least one climatic, heated argument before the characters inevitably 'kiss and make-up.' Trinity and Zane were some of the most boring, non-talking, introverted and undramatic love interests ever. Before you say, 'but that's so sweet,' remember that they barely talked! So we have a book in which there's little talking and little action....what could the author possibly have used as filler? Well, there were horses, puppies, and a weird love triangle in which Zane's former lover ran off with his brother while she was pregnant with Zane's baby. And Zane thinking his mother abandoned him, when reality she was the victim of abuse and post-partum depression so...she moved to Australia.

Most importantly, this was a romance novel with no romance. Zane and Trinity might as well have been asexual because there was no passion or sparks that made me relate to their budding romance. Also, not ONE sex scene. Not a one! I love a well-written sex-scene, whether sweet and sappy or downright raunchy. Alissa Callen gave me neither. I don't think the characters even kissed until half-way through the book and then the sex scene was just glossed over. Ugh, bored me to tears.

There was no ebb and flow nor proper character development. The plot had all the pieces to be interesting but the writing itself fell flat. Hopefully, the author does some major reworking of the book to make it enjoyable. I'd pass on this book if it's not free.

I first read Alissa Callen with her novel Beneath Outback Skies - a very good Australian Rural Romance novel. Since then, I have read two of her novellas and I am not quite as taken with them. It's not that they are bad - they are pretty well written, in fact - but it is that they just seem to lack two things that I loved about her novel: character and plot development.

In this story, Trinity Redfern is a speech therapist who helps young Finn during the summer. Finn hasn't spoken very much and Trinity has a soft spot for the kid and vows to help him before Finn starts school. And then there is Zane - the handsome - but quiet - rancher who is Finn's guardian who falls heavily for Trinity, even though he has tried to keep women at arms length after having his heart broken before.

All that is great: good story, some interesting characters and a very nice setting. However, there are some issues that brought down my rating...

There were a lot of repetitive internal dialogue between Trinity and Zane and a lot of not looking at each other. Zane spent a lot of the time trying to convince himself (or the reader) that he shouldn't get involved with a woman. And nothing actually happens - no dramatic moments, no brave hero-of-the-day action scene...just life on the ranch that slowly develops into a romance story.

As I said at the start, I did like Alissa's novel - and I hope she goes back to it more often. That is where she really excels.

Her Big Sky Cowboy
by Alissa Callen is the third book in the Wildflower Ranch series and is my favorite among the three titles so far. It's about a speech therapist looking for Mr. Right but can't seem to shift her attention away from a gray-eyed cowboy who never says much. Will they both risks their hearts on something they're both afraid will leave them broken if it doesn't work out?

Trinity Redfern is living her life on her own terms and likes being in control. She may not meet her parents' expectations but she's essentially happy with her job as a speech therapist and running a camp for children. She's particularly close to one five-year-old named Finn but keeps her distance from his uncle. She may be attracted to him but she's quite certain that he's all wrong for her...or is he?

Zane Nash isn't just quiet; he's somewhat of a recluse who prefers expressing himself with gestures, grunts, or one-word responses to questions. He becomes the guardian to Finn and notices that the formerly silent boy has been speaking more now, all thanks to the woman he's grown attached to. Zane has been burned once before and is more than wary trusting another woman...but is she worth it?

Trinity, whom readers of the series will remember from the two previous installments, and Zane seem like opposites but they seem perfect for each other, even though they appear to be the only ones not aware of it. They provide Finn a sense of stability and they're also able to bring out the best in one another. As they spend more time together over the summer, they're finding it more difficult to avoid their attraction.

This book had more drama than the first two books and it actually got me teary-eyed at one point. There are a few surprises, some of which I was able to figure out but I still liked the way the secrets came to light for the characters. Overall, Her Big Sky Cowboy shows that what we think may be right for us isn't always so and that entrusting your heart to someone may be risky but oh-so-rewarding. This gets 4.5 stars, rounded off to five stars for Goodreads! ♥

Okay…am now totally smitten by the Wildflower Ranch Series by Alissa Callen, and this is only my second read of hers. Under the big skies of Montana, Alissa Callen packs quite an intoxicating punch of charm and charisma. Be it her wonderful characters, with such big hearts and care, or the story itself seeped in emotions of love and trust.

Speech therapist Trinity Redfern is running a summer program for youngsters, and Finn Nash is one of her favorites, along with his father Zane Nash. With a heart as big as the Montana sky, Trinity is one of the most lovable characters I have come across. Warm, friendly, caring and yet assertive is how she keeps her students in line, but when it comes to her personal Mr. Right, he seems to be just elusive to her. And Mr. Wrong just doesn’t seem to leave her alone.

The reserved and sexy Zane Nash is thrown a curve ball, when he becomes an instant father to Finn, a responsibility he takes seriously as running his successful ranch. But Finn and Zane have a lot to catch up on, as five-year-old Finn is not very talkative and has become withdrawn. Zane starts relying more and more on Trinity, as Finn starts opening himself to Trinity, little realizing that opening his heart would also be a balm to his hurting heart and can be very fulfilling.

All I can say is Alissa Callen has really, really put her heart and soul in creating Zane and Trinity. Simple, warm, caring and just two beautiful people, trying to sort the ripples of emotion they create with each other, and find the trust and confidence to be with each other.

Loaded in sentiment, brimming with some painful yet a sweet past, with surprises and twists, and visiting with some of the charismatic Montana friends, “Her Big Sky Cowboy” is just as precious as “Her Mistletoe Cowboy”.

And now it’s time for me to catch up with the other sexy cowboys and their intended sassy women that Alissa has created including Payton and Cordell in "Cherish Me, Cowboy (Wildflower Ranch 1).I sure hope there are more love stories coming to the wonderful inmates of the Wildflower Ranch Series.

I enjoyed this book. It's not a long book and I felt there was enough detail to make it a robust story. Sometimes shorter books rush through or skip over issues to ensure they meet a word count to the detriment of the story but I did not find that with this book.

The characters are sufficiently developed and neither exhibit any too-stupid-to-live moments. In a twist on the normal romance, Zane is the more skittish of the two. His lack of trust in females is justified given what those close to him have done to him but he is not arrogant or mean in his attitude to women - he just prefers to avoid them. Zane and Trinity's coming together is because of an initial instant attraction. I know some readers dislike this. I am on the fence but really, given the shortness of the book, it's to be expected.

I would consider this a sweet romance given the lack of heat/sex. I haven't read other books in this series but I would say this can be read as a stand alone. I assume some of the characters we met have appeared in previous books but you don't need to.

I loved Her Big Sky Cowboy! It is beautifully written with nicely developed characters. There's Trinity, who has escaped from the city and her father's plans to marry her off. She is looking for Mr Right on her own terms and she wants to develop her career as a speech therapist. The one time she met Zane she could feel the zing of connection but he just doesn't fit the bill when it comes to what she thinks she's looking for.
As for Zane, well, he's determined to keep women out of his equation after a string of betrayals from key women in his life and despite a strong attraction to Trinity he'll do anything he can think of to take his mind off her. Finally we have Finn, a cute five year old and Zane's son, who rarely speaks. As a speech therapist, Trinity is determined to get Finn talking but at the same time she can't help falling for the little boy, and despite her best intentions she can't help but also feel the spark whenever she is anywhere near his father. The story is touching and sweet without being sickly. All in all a gorgeous story!

I really, really prefer - whenever possible - to start a series at the beginning. But sometimes a book catches my eye, and I jump in before realizing. That was the case for this book. The best part? It worked as a stand alone. Some do, some don't - this one nailed it.

This book had a twist I hadn't read before... a speech therapist, so I was interested to see how it would be handled. And I think the author did a good job with it. The romance between Trinity and Zane was more sweet than steamy, but that was okay since their courtship did involve a 5 year old.

Both Trinity and Zane had some issues that they had to work through to becoming a couple. Trinity's dealt with her future expectations in a mate. While Zane's dealt with his history with women, both his own and Finn's mother. I enjoyed this read and gave it 3 stars.

Thanks to Tule Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to review it.

This was a very sweet romance. Trinity is a speech therapist who is helping Zane's son Finn talk again after the death of his mother. Zane has issues trusting women after he's been burned before but Trinity is kind and patient and really good with Finn. This was a slow-building, clean romance. I enjoyed this book and recommend it for anyone who is looking for a sweet romance.

I genuinely do not understand how these two got together. They are attracted to each other immediately, Zane has a concerning level of distrust for women and Trinity (correctly) decides that Zane is not right for her. Then there is some kind of middle part and then they both internally come to the conclusion that they are in love. There is story happening, but there is practically no build of the relationship. Any struggle going on is happening internally, there is no real conversations or anything.
Regarding the characters themselves, I find it very strange that Trinity does end up settling for Zane and that her friend encourages it. She has a very concrete idea of what she is looking for in a man and they are very realistic and smart expectations. Zane fits none of these. Essentially this comes across as Trinity settling for a man she logically knows is not right for her and has issues that realistically I would find hard to deal with. Mainly, Trinity wants a relationship where she can be in control (was kind of hoping this would translate into the bedroom, but this is a closed door romance). It's clear this will not be the case with Zane. I'm disappointed that this requirement isn't explored a bit deeper and Trinity gives up on it so completely very quickly. The concerns she has are so valid and she just brushes them aside because "love"?
Zane on the other hand should not be let loose on the female population. Does he have trauma? Yes absolutely. But his level of distrust of women is absolutely bonkers and completely out of proportion. Especially considering that it's hinted at that his father was abusive (which Zane does recognize). Zane makes it clear several times (internally like everything else in this book) that he does not trust women in any capacity and that all of them are untrustworthy. He actually thinks this is completely logical, because he has personal experiences. He really is convinced this is scientific in some way. At the same time, he does mention that he somewhat regularly sleeps with women. Which gives me a very very weird feeling. Like.... It's clear he has no real respect for women as people and on some level seems them as one singular entity, yet he's fine using them for sexual pleasure. Very ironically this is an insanely accurate representation of what we criticize about real men that only see women in the context of sexual attraction and getting everything else from men. Zane has no business being in a relationship. And he makes no attempts to work on his issues. Basically he's a walking red flag, which is just very disappointing.
I listened to this as an audiobook and while I think the narrator did a good job overall, I don't know that her voice was the best choice here. The narrator has a very girlish voice that seems very young and I don't think it matches the tone of the book or the characters well.

I received an advance copy of this book by NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This book was a ride of mediocrity. Her Big Sky Cowboy by Alissa Callen is a story that’s as dusty as the fictional town it’s set in, lacking the tension and emotional stakes that make a romance worth reading. I will do a special mention to Jessica Preddy who narrated the the audiobook, you did a good job, but the book utterly fails to deliver a compelling story.

The story revolves around a surly, emotionally unavailable cowboy named Zane, his son Finn, the only really interesting character of the book, and an inexplicably devoted woman, Trinity, who, quite frankly, could have done much better!

Zane spends the novel being the quintessential brooding, emotionally unavailable man, who does not trust woman due to a past trauma (yet really he should not trust the men around him rather than the women). Trinity on the other hand, is portrayed as a strong independent woman, yet for reasons only known to her, she spends the entire book chasing after this emotionally stunted man.

What’s most frustrating is the lack of any real chemistry between the two. Their conversations are stilted, often bordering on tedious, and their romantic interactions feel forced, as though the characters themselves are as uninterested in each other as the reader is. There’s no spark, no banter, and certainly no passion.

As I'm reviewing the audiobook, the narrator, Jessica Preddy, is the only saving grace of this novel, bringing professionalism and nuance to a story that frankly doesn’t deserve it. It’s hard to root for a couple when it seems even they don’t care if they end up together. If you’re looking for a swoon-worthy cowboy romance, this isn’t it.

Thanks NetGalley and Bolinda Audio for giving me the opportunity to review the audiobook for "Her Big Sky Cowboy". Despite Preddy's best efforts, this book was not for me.

A great story if you're looking for an introduction into the cowboy romance genre!

The plot of this revolves around the MMC Zane, a broody rancher and new single dad to five year old Finn who is going through speech therapy with Trinity, the FMC. Zane has been wronged in the past and isn't looking for love while Trinity is searching for her mr. right (which she is positive could never be the rancher she's crushing on).

I really enjoyed the pace of this story and how Alissa wrote Zane and Trinity's relationship. From the start you could tell they were attracted to each other but feeling the pressures of how off limits a relationship between them was. There were also a lot of components to this story outside of the romance that kept me intrigued and really brought this story (and the characters) together.

Overall I rated this a 3.5/5 stars and would definitely recommend if you are looking for a quick audiobook with a good story and no spice/a clean romance (no explicit scenes or descriptions during the characters inner monologues).

Special thank to NetGalley and Bolinda audio for this ALC!

What a beautiful love story. When events from our early childhood affect our lives to the point that, unknowingly, we harbor pain so deep that we are unable to find the light at the end of the tunnel, sometimes all we need is a kind heart and a little push in order to crawl out and start living again. Zane has had his share of pain and sorrow, and after the loss of his brother and his wife, taking his young "nephew" to raise as his only living relative would seem like the only bright spot in his life...that is, until the beautiful speech therapist, Trinity, comes into their lives. But Trinity doesn't come unscathed, she has her own demons to fight. But there isn't much that will brighten her day than the young Finn. If only his uncle wasn't her oh so wrong Mr. Right!
Full of many surprises, some happier than others, this well written book will have you in tears, and at the same time, have your heart swelling with love, as this young couple climb the many hurdles in order to find their happy ever after.

I enjoyed this book. It was very good. With lots of emotion especially when Zane is reunited with his Mother that he hadn't seen since he himself was a young child. Zane, Trinity, Finn, and of course Bug were the main characters of this book and I enjoyed them very much. I also like the other characters in the book and how they made this such a great book. I particularly like how the author was able to describe the Hollyhock Creek Ranch and the Fire Weed Ranch. She must have had a specific place that she has visited in her mind that became these two ranches. I also like how the horses were part of the story too.

And, I thought that Trinity's occupation as a speech therapist was unique and working to help children with speech issues.

A great read I will have to look into reading more of this author's books.

A sweet cowboy, small town cowboy romance. Trinity is trying to live the life she wants. She loves her job as a speech therapist, her friends and knows that her happily ever after is out there. Zane is dealing with betrayal from everyone in his life and trying to run his ranch and raise Finn, the most delicious little 5 year old boy. When the school year ends she continues to spend time with Finn to help him and so begins the will they, wont they dance. A quick easy light, but oh so sweet listen. I hadn’t listened to or read the first two in the series and it wasn’t an issue. Perfect as a standalone book.

Oh, now this storyline is just too cute. Speech therapist Trinity Redfern knows her perfect match is out there somewhere. Cowboy, Zane Nash, has heeded life's lessons: never trust anyone, especially a woman. When they meet, sparks start to fly! Her Big Sky Cowboy is book three in the Wildflower Ranch series and can be read as a standalone.
The audiobook is good; the narrator did a good job bringing these stories to life.
The ebook is out now, and the audiobook will be released soon.

Captivating

Well thought out. None of the characters were over the top. They were all believable. Zane, trinity and Finn kept me going but Hank and Clara were the clenched. Definitely recommend this book to anyone. It is a PG romance. Also a quick read. More than likely because I was engrossed! Can't wait to read the rest of the series and anything else by this author. Truly wish did not have to write so much to submit a review on this site. I hate reviews that give away so much of the story.

Her Big Sky Cowboy by Alissa Callen is a fantastic read. Ms Callen has delivered a well-written book. I adore the characters in this book, they are a perfect fit for this story. Trinity and Zane's story is packed with drama, humor and spice. This is a fairly quick read, a great choice for those with little time for reading. I enjoyed reading Her Big Sky Cowboy and look forward to reading more from Alissa Callen in the future. Her Big Sky Cowboy is book 3 of the Wildflower Ranch Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

A sweet romance story. Enjoyed it, was a very quick read.

Mr Wrong did become Mr Right in the end, and Trinity became the woman that the cowboy with major trust issues, could trust.

It wasn’t very realistic of course - telling each other at the first kiss that they love each other, also he asking her to stay at the house indefinitely so early on in the story, didn’t seem all that realistic.

But it is a sweet story you can get into.

I read this, the 3rd book of the series, out of order, I actually read this 2nd.

This was a sweet romance where the characters have to learn to overcome their pasts and trust one another. Trinity is a speech therapist who is helping Zane's son. She at first thinks it's his nephew, but as they get to know each other more she learns that it is his son.

This is a super cute pg romance with no spicy scenes. It was still very intimate with the characters allowing themselves to be raw and open with each other eventually.

Thank you Netgalley, Bolinda Audio, and Alissa Callen for a free ARC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Learning to trust

This is a story about two people who are drawn to each other so strongly, that even though they are both struggling with trust issues and are both extremely head strong, they can't stay away from the fire that burns between them. The chemistry is strong in this book and you are praying for a HEA. Finn and Bug are a sweet addition and bring these two together. Well worth reading.
