The Ugly Coat
The village of Caura is a place of beauty and rejuvenation. For many it is the ideal place to live and have children. But the people of Caura live with a hidden fear passed down from generations that one day the devil would come to take from among their daughters his bride. Mothers do their best to protect their children, but it is an inescapable fate for one young girl. Rachel is a captivating and intelligent beauty who knows of the legend too well. Unfortunately, she becomes the object of desire, and along with her mother Octavia, she tries to avoid what seems to be a terrible fate. However, there are some evils that cannot be escaped and when Rachel becomes the devil’s bride, it seems all is lost. Octavia’s love for Rachel pushes her to search for her daughter until she finds her. Sadly, after Rachel comes home, she can no longer speak. It is up to Octavia to find a way to restore her daughter’s voice and happiness.

Eva Lee Hernandez tells us the story of the village of Caura and its inhabitants in this book. They are afraid that one day the devil will come to find his bride. This fear has been passed on for generations that the devil will choose one of their daughters as his bride.
Rachel is one of the most beautiful ladies living in Caura. Her beauty, unfortunately, seals her fate, and she gets chosen by the devil as his bride. Her mother tries her best to save her. But her every attempt turns into disappointment.
After a long search by her mother, Octavia finds Rachel and brings her back to the house. Rachel was sadly not able to speak after the whole debacle. Will Octavia succeed in her attempts to make her daughter speak? How far will a mother go for the better future of her daughter? Hernandez answers all these questions through this book.
