The Love of my Life

Rate this book
From the New York Times bestselling author of Ghosted comes a love story wrapped in a mystery: an up-all-night page-turner with a dark secret at its core

I have held you at night for ten years and I didn't even know your name. We have a child together. A dog, a house.

Who are you?

Emma loves her husband Leo and their young daughter Ruby: she’d do anything for them. But almost everything she's told them about herself is a lie.

And she might just have got away with it, if it weren’t for her husband’s job. Leo is an obituary writer; Emma a well-known marine biologist. When she suffers a serious illness, Leo copes by doing what he knows best – researching and writing about his wife’s life. But as he starts to unravel the truth, he discovers the woman he loves doesn’t really exist. Even her name isn’t real.

When the very darkest moments of Emma’s past finally emerge, she must somehow prove to Leo that she really is the woman he always thought she was . . .

But first, she must tell him about the other love of her life.

this was a such an odd reading experience because the story is pretty much a hybrid. the book begins as if its just a contemporary fiction story, but then starts to transform into a mystery/thriller, only to finish as a womens fiction novel. its as if the author didnt know what kind of story she wanted to write, so she just combined them all into one.

which i dont think is inherently a bad thing if the transition between genres is seamless, but the flow and pacing in this definitely feels disconnected at times. i enjoyed reading the mystery section the most. i think the misdirections are done well and it creates a really good plot for a domestic thriller. i would have loved for this vibe to remain throughout the entire story. but the other sections are decent - i love how quintessentially british the talk about relationships and jobs is.

overall, not quite what i was expecting. the overall story is a good one, i just wish it had felt more cohesive in terms of genre and storytelling.

Readers in the U.S. have really been loving The Love of My Life. I get it. Rosie Walsh’s latest novel is full of twists and turns, and I never was fully certain where the story would go.

Because Leo's wife has had a brush with death (from cancer… the publisher blurb just mentions an “illness”), he looks into her past. He's an obituary writer and just can’t help himself from starting hers just in case. What he learns is that she’s not who he thought she was, and she’s got a whopper of a secret (or two! or three!) in her closet.

Where I struggled a bit was with the tone. Is the novel a slow-burn family drama? Or a domestic thriller? It felt a little like what you’d get if Anne Tyler and Lisa Jewell decided to co-author something. Comparison to either of those two writers is far from a bad thing, but I’m not sure they’d make great collaborators.

Chapters primarily alternate between the first person perspectives of the husband and wife, so the audiobook is narrated by Imogen Church and Theo Solomon. They both did a fine job, though even at 1.75x speed it felt longer than it needed to. I was eager to get to the end to see the plot’s resolution and also to move on with my life.

Side note that I’m adding in because if/when I look back on this review I want to remember something. The book ends with a fart. Yep, a fart. Despite the absence of laughs or really any levity throughout the entire novel, the story concludes with a character tooting (“breaking wind”) and blaming it on a moped. Alrighty then!

3.5 stars

My thanks to Macmillan UK Audio for the gifted advance listening copy to review via NetGalley. The Love of My Life is now available in the US and will be published in the UK on June 23, 2022.

3.5 stars rated up to 4. Not as good as I was hoping and expecting, but it will still an intriguing story. It started out a little slow for me but then picked up and finished off pretty strong. Another review I read compared this book to Laura Daves book, The Last Thing He Told Me, and I 100% agree. Definitely felt those vibes all through the book but this one had a lot better ending, in my opinion. There were a few twists and turns I didn’t seem coming and I felt some suspense too while reading this. The characters in the book are well developed and done well. Overall, a great book that I would recommend.

*Publication Day is March 1st* You will want to read this book!

I'm mesmerized by this general thriller/poignant love story. This is impossible to put down. It is about the secrets we keep from the one we love the most and the price we pay to keep them. Told in two POV's into past and present, it will give you so many twist, turns, heartbreaks and a secret hidden so well you will not see coming. The way the story is written captures the characters with love, laughter and heartbreak for those we protect. Their second guessing comments and thoughts were real and sometimes humorous. I could not get enough.

There is lovable Emma, a marine biologist and TV presenter, living comfortably with the love of her life, Leo and their young daughter, Ruby. For a living, Leo writes before-death-obituaries for people in the public eye. When Emma finds out she has cancer, Leo researches to write her obituary. He connects with people in her past that shed a different light on his wife than the one he has known for the past ten years. The more he digs the more incriminating the evidence. You can feel the weight of it that leaves him shocked, disappointed and crushed.

The setting drives the story with her study of a rare crab and the connection it makes to her past. A beautiful life may soon be torn apart when Leo uncovers it all. An actress from the Rothschild's family goes missing, and Leo discovers a connection between the two. What is she hiding? Emma goes missing when he begins to connect the dots with the evidence from her past.

Thanks NetGalley and Penguin Group Viking for this title in exchange for my honest review.

One suggestion? Please do this book on audiobook. 🎧 You won’t be disappointed!!

You know when you come across a book that completely sweeps you into the story? You become a fly on the wall and every page, every chapter has you wanting more. The Love of My Life tells the story of Emma, who is living a lie and desperate to figure out how to tell her husband all about her past. Can she still tell him after all this time? Will he understand?

This one is a slow-burn with lots of tension and suspense. As we uncovered Emma’s secret, the layers were so well executed and developed that every curve ball and reveal kept me guessing. It isn’t very often that these types of slow-burn thrillers keep my attention and I was hooked until the very last word.

Not only was this a story of second chances, it was also a story of forgiveness and marriage and commitment. I loved Leo. His story and devotion to Emma really impressed me. It isn’t too often that men in books are written like that. I’m tired of the easy (and lazy) storyline of the husband’s infidelity. It’s getting old, y’all. Show me a husband who loves his wife and family and will fight for them and I’ll read that story every time!

Is her past coming back to haunt her.... or save her?

I noticed that many other GR reviewers went into this believing it would be a standard thriller. (That blurb does come across as ominously dark.) For the most part, Rosie Walsh's last few novels do have mysterious or thriller elements to them, but what I always go to this author for is emotional and psychological tension and drama. THAT she can do very well!

I loved these characters: Emma in all of her guises and moods. My face almost cracked from the huge grin I had on my face as I read that part about how Leo's workmates left the office smiling, while Leo interviewed Emma on the phone about her grandmother's obituary, because they knew that Emma and Leo were already falling in love without having even met. That was, incomprehensibly, soooo romantic! Loved it!

Little Ruby was a chip off of her zany Mom's block. Very high maintenance but worth all the work. Leo and Emma were Ruby's slaves, as Leo put it.

This family just captured my heart and had me 110% invested in their future as a unit. Walsh did a fabulous job in creating a world filled with laughter - as well as horrendous mental suffering! - that I could disappear into for the duration of this story. And to think, the author was pregnant and/or had a newborn to take care of while she was writing this book. Respect and Applause, Applause, Applause!

The exploration of trust - and the loss of it - in a marriage was very well examined and portrayed. Poor Leo! But, oh my, poor Emma, too! So tortured, so brave, but at the same time unable to find the courage to tell Leo the truth - for so many valid reasons, of course, but still.....!

I knew Rosie Walsh had the makings of a great writer - from start to finish.

I'm rating this engrossing, highly visual novel that came complete with a mutated crab carapace a 5 out of 5 very well earned stars. NB: If you go into this one knowing it is a domestic versus a blood/guts and mutilated bodies thriller, then you will very likely turn the last page as satisfied as I was! For me, this was her very best book by far!!!

In a Nutshell: Great in bits and pieces but doesn’t come together into a cohesive whole. This might have ended up a strong favourite of mine if I could have connected with the writing style better. But the disconnect with the plot and the decisions of one MC resulted in a strictly average experience.

Story Synopsis:
Emma and Leo have been married for seven years and live happily with their three year old daughter Ruby and their dog John Keats. Through ups and downs, they’ve been supportive of each other, even when Emma gets diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and begins the uncertain journey to recovery. Leo is an obituarist by profession and as Emma, a marine biologist, happens to be a somewhat famous celeb through her stint on TV as a presenter, Leo works on a stock obituary for his wife as his way of coping through her treatment. To his shock, his research leads him to realise that the Emma he knew from the past decade is a very different person. Who is the real Emma?
Emma, meanwhile, realises that Leo has begun cracking her carefully constructed shell. Will she be able to tell him about “the love of my life” without putting their marriage in jeopardy?
The story comes to us in the first person perspectives of Leo and Emma.

In terms of its premise, the book felt tailor-made for me. I loved the drama plus mystery vibes in the blurb. However, this doesn’t transform well to reality. The book seems like a hodgepodge of various genres – romance, suspense, family drama, literary fiction, domestic thriller – without doing justice to most.

Emma seems to have a multitude of secrets, ranging from the trivial to the terrifying. But I wasn’t convinced at all by her reasons to keep so much of her past a secret from Leo. Some of the justifications were valid, I agree. But the rest were just RIDICULOUS! I simply didn’t get her! The rest of the characters, bar Leo, also seem shifty, not leading you to believe any of them. Plus, there’s a deliberate attempt to mislead through the interconnected characters (Don’t get me started on the coincidence of so many random characters being known to each other!) Leo is the only one I found somewhat real in his emotions and the only one I felt somewhat sorry for.

The book began terribly slow, but in a strange irony, the initial section was the best part for me. The way in which the characters are established and the suspense is created is wonderful. As the book progressed, its pace increased somewhat but the secrets and the twists became more and more farfetched. I want my book twists to be more “Wow!” than “WTF!” Thus my rating kept sliding downwards with every turn of the page. The ending was too silly and predictable. A story needs to have an element of believability. This one didn’t meet that criterion by far.

On the positive side, for the first time ever, I saw a character working as an “obituarist”. I had always guessed that newspapers might be having some obituaries in stock but the extent to which this system covers potential deaths was very interesting to read. I loved Ruby – she was adorable. I liked how the title could range from something romantic to something creepy, depending on how you read it. (And both those meanings apply to the book.)

All in all, this could have been a great story for me. But the haphazard development of the situations and the unrealistic behaviour of most of the characters made this a strictly average experience.

2 stars.

My thanks to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for the DRC of “The Love of My Life”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book. Sorry this didn't work out better.

"The Love of My Life" by Rosie Walsh is a story of love, loss and forgiveness!

Emma has secrets she has never shared with her husband, the man she deeply loves. She never imagined her past life would surface in such an ugly, hurtful way. It is the last thing she would have wanted to happen, for Leo's sake. For her sake, too.

Emma and Leo have chemistry between them they could never deny. They felt it from the first time they met. When their beautiful daughter Ruby is born, they are over-the-moon in love with her and each other.

There have been hardships in their marriage they weathered together but now it's a storm!

As their relationship begins to strain, it feels real and heartbreaking. The breach of trust is at a place where Leo feels betrayed. What he discovers about his wife leads him to believe he doesn't know her at all. Emma is sure she has lost the love of her life!

It will break your heart, too, when you read how this story unfolds through the personal viewpoints of Emma and Leo in timelines of the past and present day. It's a mystery more than a thriller with more drama than romance and I was amazed how the author created such a compelling and twisty story without violence of any kind. How refreshing!

The author does a great job of getting the reader invested in Emma's and Leo's story: their relationship, their history together, Emma's complexities, Leo's unwavering support for Emma, and how they love each other so deeply. I cared about these two characters and was pulling for both of them!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Imogen Church and Theo Solomon who are the voices of Emma and Leo. They narrate with passion and believability that bring the characters to life. What a great listen!

I loved this beautifully written story of love, loss, and forgiveness. I highly recommend! 4.25 stars!

I'm all about domestic dramas this year apparently, so I immediately snagged this one as an add-on when I saw it as a BOTM option.

I will say that it was a lot more...tame and slow-burn than I expected it to be; however, I still enjoyed it well enough. What can I say...I just love watching families unravel. Allegedly.

3.5 stars--There's nothing wrong with this book, but I guess I was expecting more of an emotional punch after Ghosted. I listened to it as an audiobook and the dual narrators did a fantastic job keeping the story moving forward.

This is about Leo, who discovers that his wife Emma is hiding things about her past from him, and the more he looks into things, the more secrets he uncovers. Domestic drama ensues.

The problems I had while reading were that I really didn't think that Emma's secrets were THAT bad. When Leo finally finds everything out he is as puzzled as the reader. I mean, from a woman's POV I get why she would be hesitant to tell him about her past post-partum issues, but after 20 years married she had so much she was hiding that made little sense. I also did not get Jill and her bizarre behavior. I actually thought the book was going to veer in a totally different direction for a minute there, and I got kind of excited, but that just went nowhere.

Overall this is a worthwhile read if you like domestic drama. Everything comes full circle in the end and all is revealed and wrapped up. I do recommend the audiobook because it puts the reader more in the center of the drama.

Great job, @gmabookclub, for choosing this gem. There’s so much to talk about!

I haven’t read Ghosted yet, but you can bet I will be. What a page-turner this is. From the start I questioned just who is the love of whom’s life here?

In highly readable narrative, Rosie Walsh delivers well-developed, lovable characters, lots of dynamics, and interesting plot points (I now want to travel the world looking for rare crabs). 🦀

Leo and Emma seem to have it all, especially as she nears the end of her cancer treatment, but one day Leo perceives Emma is acting differently, which in turn leads to him doing something he would never do - snooping in her things. A thread unravels from there and develops into this whole story. While there were definitely secrets to uncover, it wasn’t exactly what Leo (nor I!) thought.

This reminded me a little of a Lisa Jewell book because of its readability and addictiveness. It’s not an edgy, murder-centered thriller, but it IS suspenseful and tense throughout. The last third was very dramatic and entertaining as well.

Overall, a page-turning, enjoyable book about forgiveness and starting over served on a backdrop of twisty tension and true love.

I received a gifted copy.

As featured in the March 2022 edition of Quick Lit on Modern Mrs Darcy:

I'm so glad I picked this up on the recommendation of bookseller friends.

The premise is this: Emma and Leo have been happily married for ten years when Leo, an obituary writer, takes on an assignment at work. As an esteemed obituary writer, one of his jobs is to draft advance obituaries for well-known individuals so they're ready, should they be needed. As a noted marine biologist, Emma ranks an advance obit—but when Leo begins researching his wife's life, he quickly discovers the truth doesn't match the story she's told him. He doesn't even know her real name, and she's never breathed a word to him about the first love of her life.

The multiple points of view Walsh employed served the story perfectly; I raced through this book to learn the truth alongside Leo.

Two notes: I began this on audio, but quickly switched to print, a change I think was for the best. And while details would spoil the plot, sensitive readers may want to research this book's content warnings before diving in.

This is a book that for some reason, I was certain I was not going to like, and it totally took me by surprise. It's part domestic thriller/part romance, but wholly captivating, and I loved it!

Emma and Leo have a great life. Emma is in remission from blood cancer, she and Leo have a beautiful daughter, and fulfilling jobs - until one day when obituary writer, Leo, uncovers something that unravels everything he thinks he knows about his wife. Emma has always feared that if Leo found out the truth, he would never forgive her, and it looks as if she was right. The secret(s) are deep and the trust is something Leo already struggles with.

This is one of those books where I thought I could see from the beginning where things were headed (and not the obvious direction Walsh tries to steer the reader toward), so I thought I was really smart ... until I realized that I was completely wrong! Walsh does a masterful job at throwing a wrench into everything at just the right time. I loved both Emma and Leo's characters, which is quite a feat for Walsh to accomplish as there are circumstances that make Emma a very complex character, but yet I was rooting for her every step of the way. I appreciated the fact that Walsh made it a point to show that not all spouses who are hiding things are murderous psychopaths - sometimes the secrets are brought about by despair, loss, and even love. But what I found the most interesting was that uncovering those secrets was just as intriguing as finding out whether someone was a murdering psychopath.

While this is a gripping page-turner in way of the mystery, it is also deep and moving story of forgiveness and second chances that made me emotional more than once. I highly recommend this one! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book was not "the love of my life".

When selecting this book, I was expecting a thriller.

In reality, this book lacked "thrills" and was a very, very, very, very slow-burn domestic drama.

The book dragged and had an ending that was contrived and predictable.

I listened to the audiobook. The male narrator did an outstanding job.

While listening to the female narrator read her passages, however, I frequently had to pinch myself to stay awake.

2 stars rounded up.

I’m going to go with a 3.5 on this one.

I didn’t much care for Ghosted by this author at all, but then I got it confused with another book with a similar title since I’m an idiot and was all about trying to get an early copy/first dibs at the library for this new release. I’m happy to report I wasn’t disappointed once I finally got my hands on it.

So what do you need to know/what can I tell you before you pick this up for yourself???? The main thing you need to be aware of is that there is a lot going on. Emma and Leo are married with a young daughter Ruby. Emma not only has a bit of “new mom” syndrome (despite Ruby not being an infant) where she checks on her constantly, but she also has some hoarding tendencies (unfortunately for me, not a big part of the plot because I love a good hoarder), some fairly severe bouts with depression and also has had cancer and is waiting blood tests to see if it is back or if she is in remission. Oh, and she has led a double life of some sorts.

As I said, a lot. LOT. That was a help rather than a hindrance for me and made this compulsively readable for the most part. I’m not generally a fan of getting halfway through a story and then having a ginormous timehop that takes me back 20 years for the big secret reveal, so be warned if you struggle with that type of plot delivery as well. The good news is I was wrong in my guesses of what was going on so if you think you know, you probably don’t and my notes consisted mainly of “WTF?!?!?!?!” I’d recommend this for fans of Sally Hepworth or Lisa Jewell’s domestics.

a solid 4 stars, perhaps 4.5. fans of THE LAST THING HE TOLD ME will enjoy this one. i prefer that one over this, though.

a solid combination of mystery, suspense, romance, life journey/growth that had me hooked and wanting to figure out why the wife was so mysterious and full of secrets.

full review to come on my IG! i would be surprised if this wasn’t adapted to tv/movie. definitely had the dramatic elements and i can see this being widely liked!

This is an entertaining, well-written, fast paced, contemporary romance novel. It is often heart wrenching, and has a likable female protagonist, relationship drama, secrets, mystery, suspense, twists and turns, and a satisfying conclusion. I listened to the audio book, and the narrators, Imogen Church and Theo Solomon, are truly talented and do an outstanding job depicting the characters and their personalities..

Leo and Emma have been married for seven years and together for a couple before they wed.. They seem like the ideal couple, at ease with each other . Emma loves her husband and their young daughter Ruby. Emma has suffered from cancer and that has
been hard for both of them but they have come through it. Leo is an obituary writer. Obituaries of famous people and those in the public eye are often written in advance and kept on file till needed . Leo prepares one for Emma should the cancer claim her life. But the trouble when it comes is from another source all together and leaves Leo wondering if he knows his wife at all. Emma is a marine biologist with a fascination for crabs since she first discovered an unusual dead crab on the beach at Alnouth many years earlier. Since then she has been a popular TV presenter of a show called This Land, until for some inexplicable reason she was sacked. But it is not just crabs that sends Emma back to Alnouth without Leo at varying times. Leo finds some information that makes him question everything about Emma and their life together. When actress Janice Rothschild goes missing it appear there is some connection to Emma, but what could it be? The more Leo uncovers about his wife, thanks to some papers she never could bring herself to get rid of, the less Leo feels he ever knew her at all. But he is determined to find out the truth. Emma’s best friend Jill knows the truth so why has Leo been kept in the dark? What Leo finds out rocks his world.
This story is told from two points of view, that of Leo and of Emma. It is interesting to see the situation from both points of view. There are also diary entries from Janice Rothschild. The story intrigued me and certainly kept me turning the pages. Sadly life intervened so I could not keep reading all the time as I would have liked. Both the main characters are likeable and as it traces the back story things are perhaps not always quite as the reader might have imagined. There were a couple of things I wasn’t sold on, but overall I really enjoyed this story. A story about relationships, secrets, the past, choices and consequences. I had read one other book by this author which I didn’t particularly like but this one is a good, engrossing read that kept my interest throughout. Glad I gave this author another try.

If you're looking for a thriller that you won't be able to put down, this is the book you want. It's a novel with all sorts of twists and turns, a story that keeps you wondering who--if anyone--is telling the truth. Every time the reader (in this case I) thinks she knows where the story is going and who's telling the truth and what the real nature of each relationship is, the author pulls the rug out and turns the story in another direction entirely. If you have a plane ride, a train trip, or any other kind of trip planned and you want to be entirely diverted, I heartily recommend this novel. It's well-written and intelligently written, with fully developed characters who find themselves caught up in a situation none of them ever expected to be in. It also has a completely believable exploration of postpartum psychosis. It's a complete page-turner. I loved it.

*Bittersweet*

This is a tale about a young woman who makes a terrible mistake and has a breakdown. In order to come to terms with such a horrific time in her past and to save her sanity she makes a life changing decision. This decision will simmer and fester inside of her even though she thinks she has it safety locked away.

A few years later after therapy and getting her life together she changes her name to Emma to try and put a lid on her past.

She is now a well known marine biologist, when she meets Leo an obituary writer he is the only man that makes sense to her. He is the ‘one’. They get married and have a young daughter Ruby. Leo has turned out to be everything that she wants and he supports her through thick and thin.

But like all secrets they start to slowly unravel and the past she never shared with her husband is about to be revealed as she piques his interest when he catches her out in a lie, which he keeps to himself. Will she underestimate Leo’s ability to get to the truth? As things unfold, what will the fallout look like? This story is mainly told from 2 points of view of Leo and Emma and it is heartbreaking to see for different reasons how people act out of sheer desperation….

I read Ghosted a few years and loved it because it went in an unexpected direction. So I was very excited to sit down with the author's latest book, The Love of my Life. Thankfully it was a another great read. There's just something about opening up a book and not quite knowing what the author has in store for you. The fact Rosie Walsh is able to pull that off that feeling until darn near the end is pretty remarkable.

My best advice for this one is to sit back, relax and just let the author tell the story. It's a work of fiction and I think it's unwise to pigeonhole it into a more specific genre like mystery or thriller. While those elements are certainly present, they are just components of the overall tale. The story alternates between a husband and wife. The wife is hiding something from her family and hopefully that's enough to grab your attention because I don't want to give away much about the plot.

Held my interest from start to finish and looking forward to more books from this writer.

3.5/5⭐️ I think there are some aspects of this story that are outstanding. I loved the dual pov/timeline format, the intriguing history of our FMC, and the overall character development. However, I had a few issues with this book as well that kept me from fully enjoying it.

What I struggled with the most, was the pacing combined with the changing vibes of this story. For a large portion of it, I felt as though it bounced back and forth from a contemporary fiction novel to a thriller - ultimately landing somewhere in between. The beginning was very strong, but was not consistent and began to drag from the midway point on.

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞:
•mild suspense
•dual POVs and timelines
•character driven
•family dramas

What a journey! It hasn’t taken me a month to read a book in such a long time. Throw in the fact I dnf’d it at 35% and actually went back to it, it’s a bookish miracle.

This is such a slow build and for a moody reader it was extremely difficult to hold my attention. The story doesn’t even pick up until about the 50% mark.

I loved the authors previous work and I’m so glad I circled back for such a touching tale of life and love and how we can move on from the past.

The narration of the audiobook is well done (thank you PRH audio) and the writing is beautiful. Just be prepared to invest some time before you get to the guts of the story.

Wirklich, wirklich lesenswert!!!👍

I don't think I've ever disliked a book as much as I've disliked this one. I find it personally offensive and enraging that so many people loved this novel and fail to see how problematic it was. Rosie Walsh
sure talks a lot about how horrible and evil adoption is and how evil and deceitful the people who adopt are, given the fact that she has zero personal experience with adoption. This book portrays multiple negative misconceptions about adoption and paints every single instance of adoption in the story as bad or traumatizing in some way. This is the first and only time I will ever do this, but I sincerely encourage people to not read this book. It's harmful and pretentious and I was shaking with anger and hurt by the time I finished it.

I have mixed feelings about The Love of my Life. While I loved the premise, love a dual narrative, and love having an author throw around pieces of information that get put together in the second half of a book, I just couldn’t connect to this story as much as I wanted to.

I’m not sure what caused it. Maybe it’s the pacing; it was rather slow at first. Maybe it’s Emma; I found her annoying at times. Maybe it’s the structure of this book; I think a dual timeline, Leo’s voice in the present, Emma’s in the past, would have worked better. Maybe it’s Emma’s and Leo’s relationship that should feel warm and tender but felt distant to me. And the distance in this story might be my main issue. I need to feel a book. When I put a book down, my body and mind need to long to be back with the characters, to feel what they’re feeling. While this is not a bad story because the writing is good and the story is easy to read, I just didn’t feel anything. Not in the present parts and definitely not in the parts in the past. I read, and I read, and finally rushed through the book, instead of indulging Emma’s and Leo’s story. They didn’t find a place in my heart, couldn’t make me shiver, couldn’t pull my mouth up in a smile, and could certainly not wet my eyes. It might be a me, not you thing, so if you’re interested in this story, please check out other, more positive reviews.

I received an ARC from Pan Macmillan in exchange for an honest review.

I couldn't put down this book, I was mesmerised. This reminded me of The Last Thing He Told Me and I fell in love with both of them.

The title gave us the idea that it would be a romance book but it was so much more. It tackled many topics and it had mystery and suspense thrown into it.

Roise did an amazing job with Emma. We knew all Emma's darkest secrets and the reasons for her actions. The other characters were magnificent too, we saw the good, the bad and the ugly of all the characters.

"when something’s damaged beyond repair that we realise how beautiful it was."

We are all humans and we all make mistakes... It's how much we are willing to forgive and let go that counts.

A avut suspans
