Even if you’re not looking for a new job, this is a great book to reenergize your career and provide a fresh perspective on ways to continue to grow and find new passion in your workplace. Found this book at just the right time as I wrapped up another year in my profession and approaching the 5-year mark, a mark I haven’t reached in any job in my career to this point. A good read for any professional at any point of their career.

This is a life-changing book that inspires readers to pursue their dream occupations. Coleman outlines a practical plan that makes the process straightforward and less overwhelming. With a plethora of anecdotes from Coleman's personal journey and those of his clients, the book is highly realistic and convincing. I recommend it with wholehearted enthusiasm!

I don’t usually read books that have to do with career growth, but as an avid listener of Dave Ramsey, I decided to give Ken’s book a try especially since I’m finding myself in a rut job wise, unfulfilled and feeling like there’s something more for me to do.

I found his advice to be motivational but blatantly honest. I came away with tools to begin working my way towards a career and not just a job. I have even begun to put those tools to work. But the ending of the book was really powerful to me. It reminded me that even when you land your dream job, it’s not the end. Keep learning, keep growing.

And as an introvert, I was so thankful that he included tips for us especially it the chapter about connecting with people NOT networking. In fact, I’m glad he called out networking for what it is— people sucking up just to get what they want instead of it being a two way street. I’m glad that his advice includes helping others, asking what you can do for them instead of just what they can do for you. It’s refreshing to hear a career expert talk so much about being humble and serving It was nice to hear him talk about staying away from people at work who are gossips, arrogant and schmoozers.

For far too long I have worked around people who did nothing but suck up to the boss. One even bragged about how they don’t have to do any work because all they have to do is suck up.

I’m so glad Ken called it for what it is — a toxic work environment. I feel like too many people think sucking up is the way to get ahead and I’m tired of feeling like I’ll never get anywhere unless I start kissing butt. I’m glad there are still people who see this as negative behavior. I’m glad Ken encourages a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and being helpful towards others.

I always thought career books would be dry and boring. But I found this one to be inspiring and motivating. I look forward to seeing where I can go if I actually put his advice into action.

This book contains useful information for people who are unhappy (or not necessarily thrilled) with their current job, such as how to decide on a career path that would be a better fit. However, it also contains useful information for people who are staying in their current field and want advise on how to get ahead. As a semi-retired professional recruiter reading this book just for interest, I appreciated the parts about networking, because that is truly how most people get a new job. I also liked the encouragement on dealing with rejection.

I would suggest that rather than sell the online "Get Clear Assessment" separately, it automatically be included with this book, including with library copies. I bought the book and assessment as a kit for my niece, and she found it very helpful. If you purchase just the book (or get it from the library, as I did), you are missing a huge part of the picture. You need to "get clear" with the on-line assessment to get the most out of "From Paycheck to Purpose."

One of the worst written books I’ve read in a while. There is nothing novel nor insightful, just faux positivity riddled throughout with some excerpts and quotes from successful people - which were the only parts worth reading.

He draws ill fitting comparisons that never seem to land, most of them having to do with himself personally which he seems like he’s either gloating or getting off his chest so he can make sense of it.

Compared himself feeling tired halfway through his own half marathon to other people toughening it out so they can “live the life they want to live.” Duh.
Compared Apollo 13’s landing to the general public facing obstacles and that “you’re made to overcome!” Huh?

I should have stopped after chapter 1 and thrown it away, but I was desperately hoping to be proven wrong. It was the same spiel page after page.

This 250 page book could have been summarized in 5 pages, labeled “Journal” and kept in his own Google docs.

After listening to Ken Coleman on the Dave Ramsey show I decided to read his book as I explore ways to refresh my legal career. The book is easy to read with some good examples and exercises. I believe it may place too much emphasis on passion though; Americans tend to live to work rather than work to live as they do in Europe. Requiring someone to find a passion may leave them feeling inadequate if they only find a job that supports a passion to live life. However, I will recommend this book to my children as they approach college age and think about career paths. One standout section in the book is about "networking", which Coleman correctly calls "connecting". The thoughts and suggestions are excellent; I have used many of them building my own solo legal practice over the past 17 years.

This book took me on a journey, one that I'm just getting started on myself. So I found the first part to be Very Informative! But in the middle, I found it less applicable, personally. Probably because I'm not there, and also because it's information I already knew. But the final part, really brought it all home, a "Mountain Top" perspective, that really brought the entire view of what our "Dream Job" into the framework that I needed to hear. It's because of that final part, that I feel I can bump this book up to a 5-Star, must read, and read again experience. This is one of those books that you take with you. One that you can/should reference along the way to your desired job/career. Thank you Ken!

I hope to oneday love someone the way Ken Coleman loves Dave Ramsey. This books is 2/3 a meh career planning book, 1/3 an ad for Dave Ramsey. He just gushes about Dave Ramsey and then he brags about himself and how he went from being a loser to a super great amazing broadcaster. He works for Dave, Dave Ramsey. Did you know he works for Dave Ramsey?! He is Phillis and Dave Ramsey is Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration. Cringe. I think it's nice that the author is proud of his accomplishments and that he likes Dave Ramsey so much, I just don't want to spend hours hearing about that in a book.

Ken Coleman who is a part of Ramsey Solutions utilizes life experience of beating his head against the wall and Ramsey financial principles toward the career you were meant to have.

He gives a very clear road map to getting to a job that will give you purpose rather than a job you hate to wake up to go to just to earn a paycheck.

Anyone who isn't sure they are doing what they really want to do vocationally should read this book.

Super common sense stuff, a bit too much mentioning of David Ramsey who I am not a particular fan of. Mentions of scripture which aren't super awkward but always seem out of place to me. HOWEVER I will say the beginning of the book has some value, where the Author leads you through finding your mission/purpose. I had one small discovery which might be useful in the future.

This one was a miss for me: found this title too trite and lacking substance. Felt like more of an advertisement to Ramsey and Ken Coleman media rather than a true-to-form book as titled.

I needed more of the first part - a whole book on figuring out what you’re good out, what you enjoy, and what your mission should be. The rest would be really great to give a person new to the workforce.

I absolutely loved it! Ken presents the job path in a way I have never thought about. How we achieve our work goals and what those work goals are, matters immensely!

This book gives real world, practical advice on how to find a career that you will love and how to flourish in it. I wish I would’ve bought the hardcopy so I could highlight it and keep it on my shelf for years to come.

First nonfiction of the year!

I would definitely recommend to anyone who is trying to find their dream job. There's also a quiz that goes with this book. I highly recommend taking it. This book has given me a lot of insight to what I want to do. It has helped me get unstuck from the fear of the unknown. I am able to create a plan and an exit strategy. He also gave me hope to know it's not going to be immediate. To take it slow and really think about the next step up the ladder. Is it going to help me reach my goal? I've even started listening to his podcast. Hearing others going through the same thing also brings me hope and encouragement.

Ken Coleman provided a thorough blueprint on how to live a professional business career that adds purpose to your life and the lives of people who need you.

He outlines everything going getting started in an industry or profession, to working through the ranks, and ending at the summit to see who you can help along the way.

A great read for those pivoting in their professional careers or improving their career passion.

I liked the book. It was simply written with lots of examples that helped to flesh out his points. Coleman was very encouraging. I particularly liked how he weaved Scripture into his work. The real gem of the book is that Coleman has several exercises that ask the reader to think about the work that s/he wants to do and then lays out steps to achieve that goal.

inspirational

I found this book to be more inspirational to your well being instead of actually help you find a job. This spirit, love and giving helps with the emotional journey I was receiving while reading this book. It is also what I think helps you gain the experience in finding your passion for a job instead of the techniques talked about in the chapters.

As someone who is self-employed, this book wasn’t particularly relevant to me. Most people who would benefit from this book would be those who are employed by a corporation or non-profit, looking to upgrade their job title or move to a different employer. It was an easy read, just not what I was looking for.

This was a good book written by “Ramsey Personality” Ken Coleman. It’s a how to and self help book for unemployed people, underemployed people and people that want a change in their career. It showed me some good techniques on a possible change in my current career and ideas about what I can do when I retire from this line of work. All in all it was an easy read.

2.5 Stars. The information is not earth shattering, but it is good to have in one place. The part I was really looking for help was not the most useful (clarity of what I want to do), but I think other parts were helpful and logical advice about career, especially because when I am in an unhappy role or environment I tend to favor emotion over logic.

Easily digestible and cohesive outline to aid someone in furthering their career or start a new path.
Too many “ads” and URL’s to other and extra resources that cost more money that goes toward the publisher.
