The day Ofelia Archer has feared her entire adult life is here. Despite the happiness she’s been feeling since her engagement to Zach Sully, when the inevitable happens and her father has a breakdown on Bourbon Street, her life turns upside down.
Oscar Archer has been fighting a losing battle with mental illness for years, but when he finally hits a wall and is taken to the hospital against his will, he blames Ofelia. Despondent, she’s not paying attention, and when a shadow attacks and leaves her for dead, a new mystery is afoot…and it makes for an opportune distraction so Ofelia’s mind isn’t constantly drifting to her father. Unfortunately, the shadow leads to the one person Ofelia never wants to see again.
Sebastian Gendry is facing serious charges for the beating of Ofelia’s brother. When he slips his tether and disappears, Ofelia realizes he and the shadow are linked … and their paths lead right to the LaLaurie Mansion.
New Orleans has many sordid stories, but none are quite as bad as Delphine LaLaurie’s tale. When Ofelia starts digging, she realizes Sebastian has ties to the family … and they’re the sort that can never be broken.
A shattered heart won’t stop Ofelia. She promised Sebastian he would pay for what he did to her family, and she meant it.
Dark magic is loose in the French Quarter, and it’s going to take Ofelia’s entire motley crew to overcome it. Even then, heartbreak is imminent. Can Ofelia make it through the darkness to find the light on the other side?

The day Ophela has been dreading is finally here.

Ophelia's father has a mental illness, has had all her.life but he will not acknowledge the fact, it destroyed his marriage to Ophelia and Felix's mother and has.severely affected his relationship with his children. Now that Italia has Sully in her life circumstances have changed. Sully is not prepared to let Oscar treat Ofelia badly anymore, taking out his bad moods and frustrations.on her. Everyone is in agreement the next time Oscar spirals out of control the family is going to have him committed to a mental hospital in order for him to get the help he needs. Well, that time is finally here, Oscar is found.on Bourbon Street raving, claiming his bar Krewe ( which he sold to Ofelia years ago) has been stolen. He's out of control leaving Ofelia no choice but to sign the papers to have him committed. But.......... There's something more sinister going on Ofelia sees a shadow in the window of a building but thinks nothing of it at the time but later when she returns home she's attacked in her.kitchen by what may be the same shadow. Where it's come from and what it wants from her Ofelia has.no idea but it gives her something to.focus on instead of obsessing about her father.

ANOTHER HOME RUN

I love this series. I am excited that this book covers real-life problems. All families have problems with mental illness, money, careers, relationships, and strife among each other. This book addresses Fe's dad, Oscar, coming to terms with his illness. Felix is now coming into his own by becoming a business owner, doing something he loves and is good at it. Sully and Fe are starting to embark on a new path with the family. The upcoming books will be getting better and better with all the new opportunities opening up. Oscar is
getting help Felix becoming a business owner and a wedding in the future. Also, along the way, new people come into our lives. I'm looking forward to seeing how Ben progresses and all the old characters continue to grow. Great job.

Exceptional paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an exceptional paranormal cozy mystery series. This one is probably the best book in the series so far. A great cast of characters and a entertaining storyline. Ophelia owns a bar in the French quarter called the crew. She bought it from her father and has been running it the past number of years. She’s engaged to Soli a detective with New Orleans police department. Ophelia happens to be a powerful witch and so he is a panther shifter. Together they fight evil in New Orleans along with a few other paranormal‘s and normal friends. Ophelia has a brother that likes to be a human statue for the tourists and her mother drives her nuts. read on and see what happens this time in New Orleans. An outstanding and entertaining series.

Worth waiting for!

I’ve been looking forward to this book ever since reading the last one. The author handles mental illness with a firm but sympathetic hand.
I was also curious about how she would handle the Sebastian situation. I will just say, it was thoroughly satisfying!
Getting a small glimpse of the Lalaurie House was intriguing, and the Shadow adversary was inventive and added a bit of mystery to a story that was mostly based on Oscar’s breakdown, and Olivia, Felix, and Sully’s reactions to the consequences.
It was satisfying that Ben and his situation was addressed, and it seems he will be an ongoing character in the storyline. His old fashioned outlook is refreshing in many ways, and the way he remembers how things “used to be” is a brief look back in history.
I hope for many more books about Olivia and company!
I highly recommend this series!

Sebastian is hiding..

Removing his tether ready to flee, he realises he needs a source of funds and sets a plan in motion little knowing that he won't be in control.

Oscar, already in a manic state, is caught on Bourbon Street, Ofelia has just had to fill in the initial paperwork to get him sectioned, and returning to the penthouse interrupts a shadow searching. Attacking her and leaving her for dead, it flees. But before it attacked, she heard a voice she recognised.. Sebastian.

Luckily, Sully is on his way back and finds Ofelia in time. A little magic, and she's on the road to recovery, but what is going on? Where is Sebastian? And how is he connected to the shadow?

When the pieces come together, it will help explain Oscar's episode.. but will Ofelia be strong enough to continue with Oscar's treatment?

Excellent Read

I love the characters in this series and their interactions with each other. This book had a couple of events that the previous books had been talking or planning for. So the culmination of two big events was fun to read. But now I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens in the future for the main characters. Great read but suggest you start at the beginning of the series so you can learn the history of the characters and how and why they relate to each other.

Interesting mystery mixed with family drama

This book has Oscar's mental issues coming to a head. Ofelia is also attacked. The story shifts between the family issues and the mystery with some Sully and Fe time mixed in. So slightly different since the entire story does not focus on the mytery. It held my interest and I read it in two sittings. If you follow the series, this book has forward momentum in the Oscar story arc. Several things happen which point to a new family arc with Felix. Love this author and read all the series.

Wonderful read!

Another enjoyable, page turning nail biting saga of Ofelia Archer. The time has come to hospitalize her father Archer and of course she just can’t get a break from dark things trying to hurt her or her family. I don’t think I have ever had the need to say how proud I feel of Ofelia. She is a character I have taken to heart and she is doing such beautiful personal growth! Bravo!

Can you say enough is almost too much?

Ofelia and Zach always have each others backs, but this time it is almost too much to handle. In addition to magical villains and a sad time traveler, the family dynamics are at a crossroads. This story crams in lots of action and angst while being true to all the characters. You will be both absorbed and entertained by the latest NOLA adventures of the witch & the shifter!

Family emergencies don’t wait for the best time

So Ofelia and Sully have to deal with family drama and murderous magic both at the same time

Oscar’s spiral held off as long as it could, but it was always coming.

The watching shadow didn’t even slow down for a moment of mayhem.

Magic in New Orleans isn’t always “magical” but the story is a beautiful continuation of this series.

The Shadow

I always enjoy the Supernatural Speakeasy series. I enjoy all the characters and like that many of them are more frequently in the story. I wish the part where they overcome the shadow was more involved. It felt rushed and minimal when that’s the part the whole book was leading up to. Also a lot of talk about the mansion and then no description of it. A good book but it could have been better.

Evil shadow

Delphine LaLaurie was an extremely evil person. So bad that her evil deeds created a shadow creature that she could control and have it do her bidding. Anyone with her bloodline could call upon the creature and use it for nefarious reasons. Thanks to Ofelia's ex, the creature is free again. But not controlled; it got stronger each time it was called. Can Ofelia destroy the shadow?

Oscar goes off the rails in public forcing Ofelia and Felix to commit him to the psychiatric clinic in the hospital. A vicious shadow attacks Ofelia in the penthouse and Sully finds her crumpled on the floor. There's lots of action, both normal and paranormal. I could have done with less smaltzy talk. It seems to be a frequent filler.

Very Interesting.

This was a good book. It was hard to put down. A lot of interesting bits. Oscar getting help, Felix doing well and some of the usual characters. Pascal showed up at 40-ish% through the book. Ben from the last book had a small part as he tries to acclimate.

Recommended author and series.

Heart hitting

They should be celebrating their engagement but instead a mental health crisis brings up a lot of emotional pain and suffering. On top of that shadows from the past return. Parts of the story are written so heartbreakingly that the reader will want to cry or get angry. Very good story about the effects of mental illness. Love this series.

Black & Brew

Great addition to this series and I absolutely loved the ending. There was a lot going on, very fast paced. I like that Felix is stepping up more. Sully is the best. I can't wait till next the next installment. Sully and Ophelia are definitely couple goals. Well...mostly Sully.
Told from Sully's and Ophelia's POV. No cliffhanger.

good series

I always look forward to a new book in this series. The plot and subplots move quickly and the twists make it hard to guess what will happen next. The characters have continued to evolve throughout the storyline. I can’t wait for the next adventure.

Fun read....

I love sarcasm and snark as much as the author does. Maybe that's why I like all of her cozy mysteries. What's wrong with the happy ending. I enjoyed the main characters and how they interact with each other.

Good series, but a little sappy.

The suspenseful storyline is good reading, the main characters are strong and cleverly written (kinda mushy, nothing graphic). Always fun to follow this author.

All about Oscar

This has been coming since the
beginning, and it's major story arc completed. The supernatural took second place to the people, although I look forward to seeing more Dora, Angelique, Pascal, and Felix.
