Rate this book
By popular demand, USA Today bestselling author Ella Quinn returns Regency England’s beloved extended family, The Worthingtons, for the first in a sparkling new spin-off series! But as they are about to discover, people are hardly ever perfect and the road to love is far more thrilling and interesting than they could ever have imagined…

As part of a large, rambunctious family, Lady Eleanor Carpenter has gained some knowledge of what makes a successful marriage. She’s even compiled a list of essential qualifications in a potential husband. John, the Marquis of Montagu, seems of good character (check), with money enough to support a family (check). But what of the many other requirements on her list?

Montagu, meanwhile, believes the key to a comfortable life lies in marrying someone quiet and docile. Yet the one lady who captivates him could hardly be more different to what he envisioned. Lady Eleanor is as opinionated as she is lovely, determined to improve working conditions for coal miners, even at risk to her own safety.

From evenings at Almack’s to carriage rides in Hyde Park, this Season will contain many pleasures—and a few surprises that compel both John and Eleanor to rethink their expectations. For one thing is certain: love will not be defined by any list . . .

The Marriage List by Elle Quinn
The Worthingtons #8. Historical regency romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series.
Lady Eleanor Carpenter has decided that John, the Marquis of Montagu will be the perfect husband for her. He checks off everything on her list. John reciprocates the attention to Lady Eleanor but she does not match his list with her opinions and social attention to the working conditions of the mines. Their chemistry is definitely a match.

Rambunctious historical story as we watch John be just a little befuddled by Eleanor. I did enjoy his confidence in self while at the same time leaning on the women in his life for answers to the mundane household questions. A bit spicy and a satisfying hea.

Lady Eleanor is an opinionated do-gooder whose works have made her an enemy. She’s also compiled a list of requirements for a husband. The Marquis of Montagu thinks that the perfect wife for him will be docile and compliant even though he’s attracted to Eleanor.

Unlike most regency romance series, I found this hard to get into since I haven’t read the others. There was a slew of side characters and their children and dogs mentioned right off the bat, even before the hero was introduced. I’d suggest reading others in the series first.

This was a dull read with little conflict or chemistry between the love interests. I felt like we drifted from one tedious conversation to another. I couldn’t get into it and the mining subplot villain was a caricature that added nothing.

A Marquis’ plans overturned!

Another story in the Worthington series. This time it’s Lady Eleanor Carpenter’s turn. A modern woman who is keen to find out all she can about mining, her ambition is to have a model mine. However this is her coming out season and she’s also busy making a list, along with her sisters about what to look for in a husband.
At the same time John, the Marquis of Montagu has come to town to find a wife. Someone who’s not too intelligent and is content to be in the countryside. His mother supplies him with a list of likely candidates and what their attributes.
Unfortunately Eleanor doesn’t fit the bill but she does set his blood afire. Eleanor is wondering if Montagu is sufficiently intelligent as he only seems to discuss the weather.
The story meanders on drawing together the many facets, each blending to make a satisfactory whole
I loved it when Montagu meets the Great Danes. I adored the way the children interviewed him.
A fun read!

This book was very hard to follow. Contains spoilers. The heroine is one if 13 extended family members who are very close. So the reader has to remember the names of about 35 different people who pop up through out the book. And that is just the heroine's family. Then the reader has to remember the names of the hero's family and friends. I found it hard to follow. It also must be part if a series because there are always references to previous courtship or relationship problems. There are also many referrals to the different estates that the heroine has lived in, but this book is set in the London house. The females have an obligatory charity to support, but the focus of the story is parties and balls and the courtship and the family. In one part, the heroine saved the life of a woman and her 3 children from the manager of a mine that she owned. Since she was getting married, she was given full authority of the mine, where previously it had been held in trust for her. Wouldn't you know the woman she saved was targeted by the manager of her mine and had caused many problems. The heroine made sure that he was fired and all of his belongings packed up while he was at work, so he couldn't even return to his home. He was already sending people after her for revenge of taking away the woman he wanted and now he is over the edge and going after her.
The heroine and her sister and cousin were having their first Season. They all created a list of attributes they wanted in a future spouse. The hero also made a list. He wanted a wife who would not argue ir defy him like his twin sister did. He wanted a lady who did not dabble in politics snd devoted herself to feminine arts. He decided he would "dumb down" his speech and subject matter, so the woman he picked wouldn't think he was too worldly. But what he did was sound like a simple, colossal idiot. His friend, mother and sister tried to tell him, but not until he realized he fell in love with an intelligent, vibrant lady who had superb horse riding skills, amongst others. And when he realized he might lose her, he apologized to her and showed her he was worthy of her.
I found this story had too much basis on the other characters from the series. It was too many people referenced too many times. I felt like I was digging through words and paragraphs to find the actual story. It was time consuming and took longer to read because I kept asking myself, was it really worth the bother? And it wasn't. It was a good story, but not for all the excess that I had to remember and I remember asking myself if the story really needed it. And it didn't. I would give this book 2 stars and not a recommendation to read. If the story wasn't so mired in the other stories and a lot of the verbage cut out and more focus on the main story and not trying to tie this book into the series, it would have been much better.

3.5 stars

I have read and enjoyed all 7.5 books in the series ahead of this one. Unfortunately, this was my least favorite. I recommend the series, but don't start with this book. If you have read the previous ones like I did, go ahead. There are a lot of past characters who show up. Don't get me wrong. There was nothing wrong with this one. It just was slower and less exciting. Maybe because the Christmas novella before this was my favorite of the series? It almost seemed like 7.5 should have been full length, and this could have been a novella.

Both Lady Eleanor Carpenter and John, the Marquis of Montagu, were likable leads. She was a bright and good girl who followed the rules and trusted her family. He was an honorable gentleman who was open to new ideas. The courtship was very traditional. There were a lot of ballroom scenes. There is definitely a time and place for this kind of story.

Nothing wrong, just not as fast a read as some. I will definitely continue the series.

This one was a big nope. I was hooked by the gorgeous cover but as soon as I started reading I knew it wasn't for me based on the writing and lack of investment/understanding in what was going on. I don't know if it was because I was starting from book 8 (I haven't read the earlier books) or if it was just the story or a combination of both things. Normally I have no issues with historical romance if I haven't read all the books so I don't know.

Ultimately not for me :(

Not for me

Just couldn't get into it, took forever for it to get good, and the whole Dobbins thing was ridiculous, made no sense .

With a large and boisterous family Lady Eleanor Carpenter has observed enough happy marriages to have a good idea of what she desires in her own husband. As her first season begins, John, the Marquis of Montagu, seems to check off many of her requirements, but perhaps not the most important ones.

John believes his marital bliss can only come from finding a biddable, empty-headed wife, but when he meets Eleanor, he finds himself enchanted by her despite the fact that she is the opposite of what he thought he needed. Both beautiful and strong-willed, Eleanor has her own cause in championing the safety of coal miners, even if it means risking her own safety. During their very proper courtship John and Eleanor begin to reevaluate their marital priorities a bit, though their growing feelings mean a compromise may be necessary if they’re to find a happy ending together.

Given how this story began I thought we were getting some intrigue and a pace-livening mystery to add to the romance, but that’s not how it turned out. This wound up being a very sweet, low angst story with a low stakes London courtship and the bit of mystery thrown in as an afterthought at times and resolved so quickly as to have me question its inclusion. That said, I enjoyed the narration and found the narrator’s voice to be quite soothing, even if the pace was incredibly slow. There were also a ton of supporting characters that I struggled to keep straight, and I felt that the plot often became bogged down in the minor details of life and the character’s routines, which did get a bit dull at times. This book was extremely well-researched and well-written, but it did seem that some storylines were merely touched on at the very surface level and then never mentioned again, though I’m assuming this means these were the threads being sewn for future stories. This heroine was also somehow rather mature for her very young age and also frustratingly naïve with her expectations of how quick she should fall in love. For me, this made it seem as if John and Eleanor fell in love incredibly quickly and made me question if it was real or just more of an infatuation. I also could’ve very much done without the detailed description of birth in the epilogue. These critiques, however, are merely down to my personal preference and I think this was an enjoyable story that will appeal to many readers who want a more traditional-feeling Regency romance.

I voluntarily listened to and reviewed an audio advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

Maybe 3.5 stars

Lady Eleanor Carpenter is returning home from a visit with her elder sister Charlotte when she spies some children on the side of the road. She has her coachman stop and learns that in addition to the children is their mother, who is barely clinging to life. Eleanor immediately takes charge and gets the woman and her children in the carriage and learns that they are victims of what became known as the Cinderloo Uprising. Eleanor is appalled and vows to help, bringing the woman back to Worthington Place and helping her start a new life and unknowingly making an enemy along the way. She wants to do more for the victims of Cinderloo and begins to look into it, wondering if she will be able to accomplish anything while she is in London. Because Eleanor along with her twin sister Lady Alice and their step-sister Lady Madeline Vivers are finally ready to make their come-outs and will be in London for the season. And in preparation for the suitors that they will surely have, the girls make a list of traits that any potential husband must have, and just like that the “Marriage List” was born.

John, the Marquis of Montagu needs a wife and he also has a list of traits his future Marchioness must have, such as being demure, not interested in causes, politics, or charities, who won’t tell him what to do, and will be happy to stay home and read novels – basically the complete opposite of his mother and twin sister. But that was before he saw Eleanor and her sisters riding in the park. He wonders how he can garner an introduction when his mother mentions attending Lady Bellamny’s Young Ladies soiree and that the young lady he saw in the park will most likely be there – he immediately offers to pick his mother up at the end. Later, he is surprised and pleased to learn that the object of his attention is Worthington’s sister-in-law and they are introduced. After meeting Eleanor, John’s list alters and it soon becomes clear that Eleanor is the only woman he wants to wed, but it remains to be seen if John meets all of Eleanor’s requirements… Let the courting commence!

This was a well-written, well-researched story with likable characters, but sadly it was a bit dull and slow-moving. I was excited by the beginning and expected that drama to be central to the story, but it really wasn’t – this was a very slow-burning romance with way too many characters (complete with backstories) that left readers struggling to stay on point with the hero and heroine. If I could make a suggestion to the author, it would be to start each book with a cast of characters with a brief history of who they are and their role and maybe even the title of the book they “starred in”, rather than including it in the story – especially when you are dealing with upwards of twenty additional people – it made this book wordy and drawn out. I also felt like this book had so many missed opportunities, such as; the relationship between John and his sister or the Cinderloo Uprising. In the end, this was a very vanilla story with a lot of characters, a touch of drama, a bit of steam towards the end, hints at romances for the other two sisters, Great Danes, heroes who learn to grovel, and finally a HEA complete with a two-part epilogue. So, while I found it a bit slow-moving and wordy, I am happy I read it and am looking forward to Alice & Madeline’s stories. This is the eighth book in the series, but it felt like the first book in a spin-off series and could easily be read as a standalone title.

I had such mixed feelings about this book. I really liked the mine plot portion, but I also felt that the romance portion was drug out way too long.

The book starts out with a lot of action and ends with it as well, but the middle dragged so much that I found myself getting bored. I liked John and Elenaor's connections, but I really didn't need the play by play. I mean how many times did we have to hear about them meeting for a horseback ride. That was like almost every other activity.

If you want to learn the society detail, this book has that for sure. If you want drama or a whirlwind romance, this book may not be the best choice.

Thank you to Kensington and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

Lady Eleanor Carpenter and her sisters are making their debuts, and determined to make love matches, they make a list of qualities they want in a husband. Eleanor wants a husband that loves her and supports her charitable interests. John, the Marquis of Montagu is also looking to wed, and he has also made a list, which includes a wife who is demure and passive, not interested in charities and politics, and happy to live in the country. But his list is forgotten when he meets Lady Eleanor. He must now convince her that he meets her requirements before she will agree to marry him.

Eleanor is a modern woman with an independent spirit. From the start of the story, she shows how passionate she is about helping others, and I enjoyed her caring and intelligent personality, as well as her sharp wit. One of the main causes she champions is the reform of poor mining conditions, and Eleanor’s vocal support of the cause puts her life in danger.

John is comical in how he tries to attract a woman. He’s a bit clueless, not only in his mundane conversations but in what he really wants in a wife. I think he was looking for someone who was different than his mother and sister and didn’t really think about anything else. The more time he spends with Elanor, however, the more he realizes how wrong he was, and I like that he changes and grows from his experiences.

I really liked Eleanor and John’s love story. They have such great conversations, chemistry, and banter. It’s interesting to see John try to convince an uncertain Eleanor that they are a good match. I also liked Eleanor’s loud, boisterous, and loving family. There are a ton of characters and so many love matches and romantic relationships in Eleanor’s circle, and if you read the previous books in the series, you’ll be excited to catch up with some beloved characters. Just to see what has happened in their lives and how many new additions there are to the family is so wonderful and heartwarming! It’s also so charming to see how much those relationships influenced and inspired those around them, who are now searching for their own love stories.

Special thanks to TLC Tours and Kensington Books for gifting me a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This in no way impacted on my view.

In The Marriage Game, Lady Eleanor Carpenter and her sisters are embarking on their debut Season. Because of her large family, Eleanor knows what she wants in a husband, and won't settle for anything less, creating a marriage list with all of her requirements. So when she meets John, the Marquis of Montagu, who seems to fit each item, can she allow herself to fall for him, and trust he is the man for her?

So, when I saw this book on NetGalley, I thought it was the start of a brand new series. Though it 'technically' is a new series, it's part of a larger family of books, with both The Worthingtons and The Lords of London series playing a role in this book. As soon as it started, I could already see that it was going to be a difficult book. I've read a lot of series with companion books, and have never really struggled to get my head around who each of the characters were, but there's too many side characters here to keep straight. I had both a eARC and audiogalley of this book, so read it using both mediums - on my commute and during breaks at work and home. I didn't really like the narrator of the audiobook, and felt like I was getting distracted by other things while listening to the book. Nothing really gripped my attention, not even the parts with Dobbins which were supposed to be the action. After I finished the book, I had a quick check on GR, and apparently I've read another of Ella's books, and the couple in that one are seen in The Marriage Game - that didn't register while reading at all! I'm sorry to say I'm disappointed, and that Eleanor and John's love story was not engaging enough for me to really care if they ended up together or not. Looking at NetGalley, I have two other books of Ella's unread, and I'll read them to clear them, but I won't be looking for any more of her books in future. Not a book for me!

Another well written delightful read in this lovely series, this is the eighth book in the series & I feel this best read after reading at least the first in the series, There are a lot of Worthington & Carpenters & to a new reader it could be confusing. I loved both John & Eleanor, they were perfect for each other but he did keep putting his foot in it. A straight forward romance with slight drama at the beginning & end. I loved how the chemistry between John & Eleanor was there from the start & only grew & grew. I look forward to Alice & Madeline’s stories

This was quite a bland read and not one that I enjoyed much at all. I think I've also been spoilt for choice this year, as we've had some pretty phenomenal historical romances. I had to put this down and come back to it a few times, to push through to end.

I enjoyed this historical romance with its feisty heroine. This one was definitely a case of opposites attract. I enjoyed the push and pull of the characters and the look at society’s expectations for women and also men. Great dialogue and a big cast of supporting characters made it a fun read.

I really liked Eleanor as a character but I actually kept forgetting which of the three young women this book was about. There are so many names and family members and in laws...it was more than a little confusing.

John was pretty bland, it was hard to really feel attached to him as a character. I liked St. Albans so much more as a hero.

Overall, an interesting plot, just a bit convoluted.

(3.5 Stars) Ella Quinn brings romance #8 as part of The Worthington Series which is also the start of a spinoff series called Worthington Brides. If you aren’t familiar with the series it focuses on a large family like the Bridgerton’s with various sisters finding romance. There are a lot of names which can be daunting if you are reading as a stand alone. In that case focus on the two main characters without trying to keep track of the side characters other than their supportive interactions.

Lady Eleanor Carpenter is coming out in society along with her twin sister. They are hoping for love matches and together make a list of the desirable qualifications for their future spouses. John, the Marquis of Montagu has decided to marry this year. He also has made a list of what would be pleasing in a spouse. Of course they meet and John is instantly taken with Eleanor. But she is the opposite of most requirements of his list.

Usually in historical romances an eligible peer is fawned having their choice girls. But in a change John has to jump through the hoops to be able to get an introduction to Eleanor, a sponsor at Almack's is needed to allow them to dance. He purposely goes out riding in the mornings to run into her. It is fun to see his urgency in getting the one he wants before she can be distracted by someone else. Even the marriage contract isn’t skewed in his favor.

I like the basic romance and the characters. I wasn’t clear on why John was so unaware of his duties and responsibilities as Marquis other than his being off in the country. His house is understaffed and he is unaware of what is required for politics in the House of Lords. There is a side story about mining and horrible conditions but it is part only at the beginning and end. There is some heat between the two once they are betrothed but it read more clinical than passionate. I always appreciate the research and notes the author adds at the end of the books of things for the time period or changes she makes.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books, Zebra for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Marriage List is the first book in The Worthington Brides series by Ella Quinn. Lady Eleanor Carpenter is part of the large Worthington family. This is Eleanor’s first season, and she and her sisters have compiled a list of attributes for their husband candidates. John, the Marquis of Montagu, has his list of what he thinks he wants in a bride. When John and Eleanor meet, his list is tossed aside by Eleanor’s sparkling intelligence and beauty. John has to prove to Eleanor he meets her requirements if he hopes to make her his bride.

This book relates to the previous series, The Marriage Game, The Worthingtons, and The Lords Of London. Characters from the previous series feature prominently in this book. There is an immense amount of time spent on secondary characters. I have read many books in the previous series, and I was still lost in the sea of names at times. I felt at times that John and Eleanor’s romance took second place to the other characters. Also, there was a villain who was generic and one-dimensional. It felt as though he was an afterthought until the conclusion.

I did enjoy John and Eleanor’s personalities. John seemed lost. I felt sorry for him; he had no idea what he wanted in a wife. Eleanor was quite mature for her age and had a good head on her shoulders. The sections centered on the romance between John and Eleanor were entertaining and kept my interest. This was a slow to medium-paced book. I am a fan of Ella Quinn and have enjoyed many of her books. I feel this novel lacked the sparkle of the older books. I liked this book and will read more in the series because I enjoy this author. There are promising characters and hinted storylines in this book that excited me about the forthcoming books in this series. I hope the next book will shine as I know it can.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through Netgalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Eleanor and her sisters are making a list and checking it twice, and it is not a Christmas list but a marriage list, a list of the traits they are looking for in a husband as they prepare for their season in London's whirl of balls and parties for the ton.
John, the Marquis of Montagu seems like a good choice, but how can Eleanor be sure? He is nice enough, but he seems to have the money to support a family. But what of the other attributes on the list? The conversations she has had with him up to this point have done little to impress her. He hasn't talked of anything except dull subjects of the weather and everyday events. Does he have opinions of his own? And if he does why doesn't he say so? Is he really a little slow, dull even? She is determined to find out, because despite the dull generic conversation, there is something about John that gets her temprature risiing and her heart pounding when he is near..
I really liked Eleanor and John's story, I found them to be likeable characters and the whole Worthington family is entertaining always. Good for a Sunday quick read by the fireplace, snuggle up with this easy romance and a warm blanket.

i hadn’t realised that this wasn’t the first in a new series, and in fact was first in a spin-off series; one so entwined with the first that it was rather like if bridgertons had been split in two quartets. i did have a good time with this, but i think i both would’ve enjoyed the cameos more, and had a better sense of who’s who (this is definitely somewhere a family tree would’ve been helpful!!!). i enjoyed the arc of the romance a lot and the domestic stuff was incredible but i did feel rather that the resolution was a bit surfacey esp. the villain of it all, and i was left with questions abt the m-i-l also!! a perfectly fun quick read

This was my first Ella Quinn book and I enjoyed it. The first half was a little slow and it’s book #8 and there are so many characters that I had a really hard time figuring out who was in the family. It may not hurt to read some of the other books before hand.
The book picked up about half way through and I finally figured out who was who and the main characters really started to show who they were. I really enjoyed the little bit of drama thrown in at the end.

This came up in my KU recommendations. It feels like reading a “beginner” regency novel - the do’s and don’ts of the Season are literally listed out. As a seasoned HR reader I found it tedious 😅. Perhaps a newer reader to the HR subgenre might find it more enjoyable.

I've read and enjoyed many Ella Quinn books, and was happy to receive her latest. The Marriage List is very Ella Quinn-esque, a little excitement, conflict and doubt between the protagonists, but it was entertaining enough to keep me reading. I think I would have liked a little more conflict between the two, but it was a fun read regardless!
I have read enough EQ to know who the characters are, but it would have been better for me to know earlier Worthington books to keep track of all the characters/couples. I did appreciate cameos from books, it is fun to have a universe of characters go from series to series.
The dialogue isn't as great as in others, and the story was a teensy bit formulaic. But I was entertained so while The Marriage List wasn't my favorite, it was definitely worth the read and a good addition for the loyal Ella Quinn readers.
There does appear to be a chapter that is meant to be after another chapter-- the Almack's ball chapters. In the ARC I received Eleanor and John's waltz is before the chapter where John is getting ready for the night at Almack's. That was a bit confusing!
I do think Eleanor's sisters books may be next and those look intriguing! There was just enough set-up for those that I really appreciated and am excited to read about next.
I received The Marriage List as an ARC for my honest opinion. It was entertaining enough for me to keep at the book, but felt like a filler book for continuing on the Worthington series and setting up for the two other sisters. I would say if you're an Ella Quinn reader already you'll like the new addition, if you are new to EQ start elsewhere to fully appreciate!

First of all, I do love reading the author's books. I have read many of them, but not all of The Worthington ones, so found this one very overwhelming with characters. I think that authors forget that readers read other books in the same genre and time periods and the other authors, especially in the Regency period, use similar names and places, so it gets very confusing, because I think I was remembering some characters from other author's series. I would have found it helpful to have a family tree.

The book starts off with Lady Eleanor Carpenter coming to the rescue of the widow and children of a murdered miner. However, the villain who was responsible for her husband's death, because he wants her, has vowed revenge against Eleanor. This casts a dark shadow over the rest of the book. When is he going to strike?

Eleanor, her twin Alice and sister-in-law Madeline Rivers, are coming out together and have created a list of what they would like in their husbands. Meanwhile, John, the Marquis of Montagu, has decided this year he would find a wife. His mother and twin sister wrote a list for him of qualities that they think he should look for in a wife and a list of potentials. For some reason, that is never explained, something had happened two years before when his father was ill and then died, that alienated him from his mother and sister, and he wants nothing to do with their list. He is thinking like a dunderhead and the qualities he thinks he wants would have him bored within a week. However, once he spots Eleanor, he has no eyes for anyone else. Now he is the one who must convince her that he is the one that she needs.

I read an ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley.com. In my copy, two chapters were reversed and there were a few mistakes, but I am confident that these issues were caught before the final edition.

This book was rather irritating. This concerned one of the younger girls and the romance that begins right away when the hero sees her riding and admires her seat. He seems rather thick since he’s decided at first that he doesn’t want a wife who is intelligent because his mother and sister are smart and they have been nagging him about getting married. Yeah, that’s a reason for wanting a dim bride. And to get the affection of his chosen match, he’s going to be boring and talk about the weather. But our heroine is still attracted to him because he’s good-looking. But she’s too smart to want to marry someone who isn’t and who wouldn’t support her in all the reform work she is eager to be involved in.

I just didn’t buy their romance or all the complications that appear and then get knocked down so that their romance can grow.

And there were so many characters that I couldn’t keep track of them. Apparently, it’s part of a series about the romances of a family with 11 siblings. The older siblings are married and almost all of them have small children. It took almost to the end of the book until I was sure who was an adult and who was a child. And I couldn’t match the siblings with their spouses. The author needed a score card at the beginning so newcomers to this series knew who was matched with whom.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Having not read any of the previous novels about this family, I found this book very difficult to get into. The overwhelming majority of the book is conversations between characters that I had no attachment to or real awareness of, which led to mostly confusion and a bit of boredom. But the main problem of the book is the distinct lack of conflict which results in most of the novel being a bit dull...

From the beginning John and Eleanor are set up as perfect for each other, they just each have different expectations of marriage. But this does not make for any heat between them, any real interest on either side except in a very shallow way. They just have constant conversations that Eleanor constantly thinks are boring, which as a reader, I cannot disagree with. They are boring! The fact that it takes so long for anything even remotely romantic to occur just speaks to how talky this book is without any sort of action to break up the monotony.

The secondary plot about mining is also so shoehorned in without any actual threat to the main couple that it feels like an afterthought. Nothing compelling comes from this, the villain is so inept and mustache twirling that you forget he is there for ages of the book. There's just not much substance here.

I am posting an honest review after reading an advance reader copy of this story.

I've been a fan of this series of books since day one. Characters from previous books pop up and into stories so your given a peek at how their HEA's worked out. Lots of children running around. That said The Marriage List is a delightful look into finding out what you thought you wanted was not what you thought it would be. John thinks he's going to marry a simpering quiet lady who'd leave him alone. What he finds, Eleanor, is the exact opposite of his list of requirements & he decides very quickly that she's the one & he's all for a love match. Eleanor & 2 of her sisters are making their society come outs together and have come up with a list of requirements a gentleman must meet before even considering a drive through the park. These ladies are confident, intelligent, determined, and all around lovely ladies. How it all works out is a lovely tale with a sweet ending. This extended family and friends leaves us with a few more characters in need of an HEA and there's always the next generation too.

This book is a cute regency romance. 💕

One of my favourite aspects of this book is the fun, big, chaotic family! 🏡

Eleanor and her sisters are making their debut and have decided they have to make a list of what they want in a husband. She knows she wants a husband who will be her partner and support her charitable interests. 📝

John, the Marquis of Montague, could be her perfect match, but he seems weirdly determined to marry someone simple, placid, and without many opinions of her own. 🙄Thankfully his friends make sure he knows he stupid this plan is, and try to make him see how perfect Eleanor is for him.

There’s also a plot about mining working conditions reform which puts Eleanor in danger (and of course makes sure that John knows he is going to marry a bluestocking).🤓 I didn’t love this part of the plot, but I do always enjoy a strong opinionated woman. 🙌🏻

There was fun banter between family members and friends, but I wish there had been more banter between Eleanor and John. This was a sweet book and made for a cute read.💕

✨Thank you to Zebra Books and Netgalley for the free ebook.✨
