There's something going on in gay genre fiction. It seems to be undergoing a kind of a flourishing renaissance that's never been seen before. For all of my life, good gay science fiction, fantasy, and horror just did not exist. There were a few examples here and there over the years but nothing like the deluge we have today. I've been very, very pleased to find great work coming from a wide range of gay male authors: Dominic N. Ashen, Mason Thomas, and TJ Klune. And now I add to that list the present author, Austin Miller. And that's just the list of gay male authors I've discovered since last autumn. What will the rest of the coming year reveal to me?
I shelved Pholus Reborn, the first book in this series as erotica. It's a pretty horny book. In the present volume, the erotica is largely left behind as the story focuses on its other aspects. It's not a weird or abrupt change but a holistic one that serves the story best. Pholus Reborn is the eye-catching, tasty appetizer, Centauromachy is a full five-course feast, a virtually flawless one at that.
The author is working on book three and I have to admit it's the book I most want to get my hands on. I cannot recommend this book and Pholus Reborn highly enough. This series is an instant classic of gay genre literature.

All three books share the basic elements: gay male erotica, humor, and a cracking good fantasy story. Ashen generally beats Miller in the sex scenes and humor but Miller taps into an unbridled joy that is quite infectious. I read the whole thing with a stupid grin on my face and I had to force myself to put the damned thing down, reading way past my bedtime.
The cover art is by the artist @adultjunkdrawer and it's beautiful. I admit freely it is what drew me to the book. What I found inside is even more marvelous. If sex as a religious act, massive gay orgies, smoking weed, drinking wine, and physical transformations through drinking a magic potion interest you, then you've found the book you've been seeking. I'm adding this one to my all-time-favorites shelf because it's bloody brilliant. ...more

Next I've read 2 novels and these three short stories by Mason Thomas and it's enough for me to realize he is one of my favorite gay fantasy authors. Next up for my reading is his third novel and I hesitate to start it because that's all there is. Perhaps I'll hold off and save it for a rainy day but I suspect I'll not have the willpower necessary. He's a really great writer and one that transcends the gay niche. This small short story collection is a good place to start but the author's talent really shines in his novels.
Not sure who the artist is but that cover art is AMAZING. I love it. Love a fantasy book with a fully painted cover which should be required for the genre. ...more

I can list them: The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, Fred Pohl's Gateway, Zelazny's first Amber series, and this wonderful and hilarious novel. There are probably a couple more that I'm not recalling at the moment but you get the gist. Steel and Thunder is a very special book. That it is very gay and very sexy and very funny just makes it all the more endearing to me. I love Khazak and David and the rest of the wonderful cast of characters. You have to read the sequel as it completes the second half of the story and believe me that book is even better than this one. ...more

This novella perfectly compliments the two wonderful novels. The novella gave me a scenario I'd hoped had been included in the other books, so I got exactly what I'd been craving. I love this series. The author has written some of my favorite sex scenes, and his unfolding story of David and Khazak's romance is wonderful. David gets featured here with Khazak's three Daddies. Loved every bit of this novella. Thank you, Dom, for another great story.
Picking this novella up could be a good way to sample what the series has to offer.
