something about this book just feels lifeless. it doesn’t feel like a story it just feels like tropes written on pages to get mindless readers and booktok smut readers to enjoy. no shade but i like substance in my books.
aiden was weird to me from the jump im sorry im starting to hate when men think it’s ok to make sex jokes about girls they don’t know it’s so unattractive. summer is like emotionally not there because one minute she wanted him then the next minute she did then she didn’t then she did LIKE GIRL-.
summer’s project didn’t make since and also her reason for not liking hockey was fucking stupid. hating a whole sport because your dad abandoned you or whatever because he played hockey? they treated it like it was some huge secret until the reveal and i was like ok? plus she’s an adult like i could see if she was a teen but girlie go to therapy and work on that.
i’m not understanding why it’s 390 pages because everything seemed to be resolved around the 30% mark. friends with benefit trope doesn’t do it for me at all like there’s nothing fun! i need more substance than just sex. just read icebreaker jfc ...more

I don’t think she talked about anything SUPER interesting in this book like the best parts were from her adult years. there are a few topics she glossed over that would’ve been much more interesting if she had expanded on it.
i think she’s very funny and a lot more like santana lopez than i thought. i had always been a big fan of hers and mourned her when she passed… talk about parasocial relationships.
there were a lot of distasteful comments in this book from a comment about someone looking like michael jackson pre/skin bleaching (feel however you want about michael jackson but he has vitiligo, he never bleached his skin) to the R slur drop and commenting about how she wishes she had “nappy hair”.
what i did enjoy about the book however is how she talked about race. i really liked when she talked about how back in the 90s Hollywood was more diverse than it is now. which is crazy bc this book came out nearly a decade again and it’s still true. she’s so unapologetic with how she talks about race....more

i enjoyed the premise, it’s such a good idea and i liked that shakespeare was a character but i do think it fell kind of flat. speaking of characters,i enjoyed the premise, it’s such a good idea and i liked that shakespeare was a character but i do think it fell kind of flat. speaking of characters, i love the main character and her twin brother’s relationship but separately i found it hard to connect with them. honestly this book had too many side character for its own good, at a certain point it was hard to keep up with. it wasn’t really very fun for me, i think a lot of people who do fairy books just can never make them entertaining? which is understandable because i think the folk of the air trilogy is holly black’s best books despite her having other fairy books before. also the book had no fun romance tropes! like it had a love triangle which i enjoy but the book failed to make me care really....more

my family is very religious and they heavily believe in god, for me i prefer to be spiritual and believe in the universe.
i have no problem with whatever people believe in but i feel like the way black people believe in god is different than the way others do. i’m not sure if the author did this on purpose or it just happened like that but this book touches on things that i just never would’ve thought it would’ve.
i read this because i thought it was have drama and tea (and it did!) but it touches on the relationship with mothers and religion. i think if it wasn’t for my mom i wouldve probably been religious. i really liked “Peach Cobbler” and i wish it was a full sorry. i relate to that story in a way, not a lot but it made me cry. wanting your mom to love you and doing anything to get attention from her. even how her mom had a temper so she learned how to not make her mom angry at a young age.
to me, this is not a thriller. there are no twists, there are no turns, there are no edge of the seat moments. to me this is a literary novel about twto me, this is not a thriller. there are no twists, there are no turns, there are no edge of the seat moments. to me this is a literary novel about two sisters. one who is beautiful and loved by everyone and the other that is left in the shadows. Korede is always left to clean up her sisters mess while Ayoola lives freely and also has a habit of killing men. Korede and Ayoola wants the same man but of course Ayoola is the one who wins him and Korede is left to fear for his life… literally.
i loved this book so much, i loved that Korede is always trying to warn people about her sister yet protect her at the same time. how people never believed her and thought of her as jealous. Ayoola taking advantage of how far her sister will go for her but her pretty privilege as well. i wish this book had been marketed better but i enjoyed it regardless. ...more
