A good read with plenty of character building and growth, and some varied ways in which people deal with and survive the end of the world/normal society. Nothing entirely unpredictable here, but it was enjoyable, and there were some really great quotables throughout about humanity, figuring out your place in the world, family, and what happens when your whole world is shaken up around you....more

With one tip to every page or two of this book, this book is exactly what it says on the label; it’s just the basics, just the beginning, and also light and humorous.

Some really cute and funny turns of phrase, but also a good way to introduce younger readers to the story... only 60 pages long, with half of these displaying full-colour images.
And Kitty, "who was a little odd - but no one could quite figure out why", is depicted in the images as a cat. Haha!...more

Chapters alternate between the "now" (2016) in which Scott spent almost a year on the ISS, and his journey from a kid through to NASA's decision to send him up for this mission, and there is plenty of humour and heart.
Some laugh out loud moments for a variety of reasons, though it would have been nice to have a foreword/introduction explaining that tReview to come.

As it is, I enjoyed it a lot more the second time around, knowing this going in....more

Not real hexes, just phrases of misfortune, despite the many mentions in the blurb of "spells".
Quite a quick read with a variety of misfortunes and illustrations accompanying each one, including some that are particularly specific and obscure, and others that are things readers are likely to experience on a daily basis.
Some were giggle-worthy, but this failed to provide the spells it suggested it would, and also failed to be funny enough to make it worthwhile on that merit alone.
This would perhaps be good as a joke gift, but it has limited lasting value.
The sense of humour seems to be in line with that of the creator of colouring books about "cat butts", "dicks", and "poop"....more
