I really enjoyed the book despite still not entire sure of the premise of the whole book even after finishing it. The writing can get slight convoluted at times due to the constant jump back and forth between Offred's present and past. Once you're able to distinguish the subtle differences in writing between the two, the book becomes really fun to read. Take note that all the conversation that happened in Offred's past were never in quotation marks, likely because those conversations were just recollections in her own mind. I love the development of the characters throughout the whole book and thoroughly enjoyed how the story unfolds slowly but surely. Unlike most other Murakami books, I actually enjoyed the fact that I did not at any one time experience any confusion with the story.
Finally, the phrase that stuck with me the most throughout this entire experience. "If you can't understand without an explation, then you can't understand with an explanation". ...more
