now for the reluctant discussion. her fixations on the moon and on mythology/piety, beauty/womanhood (in the superficial sense of physicality as identity), bees (?) & death are very interesting to me. the colour blue also came up a lot, but maggie nelson naturally did that better. i love plath’s writing; her manipulation of language is really impressive. she often repeats phrases which i think adds a lot to her poems. but AGAIN, her works are undeniably infused with a very clear racial bias. its really impossible to miss. plus there is NO REASON for her to be making this amount of holocaust references. anyways she writes breathtakingly well, but she is also in fact a bigot . and not a subtle one at that !...more
