Enid Blyton was my absolute favourite author when I was a child and she still is today. I was reading a bit of the information on this book about Enid Blyton and apparently she was going to be a musician but changed her mind and became an author. I'm sure Enid Blyton would have been successfull in whatever choice she made in her chosen path but I'm so very glad she became an author. Thank you Enid Blyton for bringing so much joy to my childhood with all your wonderful stories. You certainly where a very gifted author and the gift of joy and happiness was one of your greatest gifts you gave to so many children....more

I remember distinctly my teacher, cane behind his back to ensure a quiet classroom, opening his desk drawer and taking out the first book in this series. Not sure why he thought he needed a cane because when he started reading to the class you could have heard a pin drop. Thus began my love of reading and I went straight to the library to borrow the book. It was way to long to wait another week for the next installment of the famous five. I even still have my Enid Blyton club badge that is one of my favourite keepsakes. There was no one in my opinion could write a children's story quite like Enid Blyton and my children and grandchildren have loved theses stories too. One of the best classic children's series at the time and still loved today.

Aimed at younger children I thought, this is the story of Jack who is very upset because his friends have called him gay. His father deals with this in a very sensitive and informing way that puts Jack's worries to one side when he explains how our minds connect with our feelings when we dream. The important thing that is emphasized in the story is that it's okay to be who you are and everyone is different. Jack's father explains that his love is unconditional for his son and whatever Jack's worries are it's always good to talk. I thought this story was a brilliant way to approach what might be a sensitive subject for some parents. The story also gave an interesting look on how our minds work when we dream and how dreams are not a reality....more
