I found it hard to connect with Beth and halfway through the book, all the sympathy I had for her, just vanished. her rambling and her constant worry, just frustrated me. her obsession with her daughter’s perfect future, though relevant to the story later on, just annoyed me. so many things about her mundane day-to-day should’ve been left out.
Tom’s POV were a little more interesting, but as a serial killer, it felt lackluster. his POV and his victims’ felt like they written just to disturb the reader (trigger warning: SA) but it didn’t dig deeper in his psyche.
the final twist lacked credibility and I couldn’t really wrap my head around it. I felt disappointed. ...more

overall, it was a great story with a very interesting premise and plot. the narration was charming and frustrating at the time. I did not care for the big reveal though. it felt rushed, uninspired, careless.

I also found it hard at times to connect with Samantha, the main character. I understand that someone who has lost their entire family might’ve behaved the way she did, but I found most of her decisions selfish and reckless. there’s just something missing.
so many characters and subplots that were just a dead end. I felt lost.
the ending felt flat and not what I expected from a whodunnit. there was no actual closure for me.
