This book actually made me anxious, and not in a good way. The MMCs were chaotic for no good reason and haphazardly kept messing up her life and getting her into trouble. They had the emotional capacity of 5-year-olds, I don't understand how they lacked the self-awareness to see how ridiculous they were. I found the book entertaining, but I don't think my blood pressure can handle a re-read to prepare for the third book (and yes, I'm reading it because I'm slightly invested now and hoping poor Bree catches a break) so I guess I'm going in blind. ...more

It did feel rushed, I think that there was so much that had happened since the prequel that 275 pages wasn’t even close to enough to do it justice. A little more insight into what Lily had been up to (or just a peek into her life) would have gone a long way into developing her character. To do this story and these characters justice this book should have been pushing 400 pages.
I also really felt like Lily was written as a bit weak. She’s mad at the guys and then suddenly it’s all better? And the book sets her up as all tough but we don’t see it much. I wanted more badass-ery.
(view spoiler)[ Groveling, there should have been allll of the groveling. Not “I hate you because you abandoned me” and then sex in the same couple pages. I get that there was a misunderstanding but it’s a bit unbelievable that they never, ever checked on her, even online, in those 5 years. Especially after they knew she had been exposed to the supernatural for the first time. It felt like for most of the book they just bickered. (hide spoiler)]...more

I liked the FMC and the MMCs were interesting, but they were so chaotic to the point of just obnoxiousness and disrespect. Keep in mind that I've already read the second book, and if anything they get worse. The way they keep selfishly throwing the FMC's life into chaos for no good reason literally stressed me the freak out. I gave four stars before I read the second book and am tempted to knock it down to three, but the book was entertaining and I did enjoy this one more than the second. ...more
