The world of Elisir is set in a distant future of a familiar Earth populated by powerful adventurers of superhuman abilities and dangerous monsters called Chimeras.
What made Eliksir's Echo standout was the world setting which drew inspiration from the likes of Bioshock and Fallout. There was balanced action and narration to keep the pacing fast, though sometimes there could have been too many descriptions that ruin the imagination of the reader.
While the main characters were quite well balanced, one particular character was an annoying blend of a Mary Sue and a tsundere, not because of the lack of appearance (Poor Gaff and Kade really suffered from not having developed story lines). Kiyoko was an unncessarily prominent character who really felt out of place, from being "special" compared to "her people" (there was a later twist that completely invalidated this point stated early in the book) to being almost perfect in every way inhumanly possible. It was grating every time she spoke, compared to the other female main character Alema, she was very poorly constituted.
The only other problem in the book was the introduction of over 10 characters in the last third of the book, it was too much and the fact only very few were wiped out left too many underdeveloped characters to carry over into the second book. It would have made more sense if there was a rival/frenemy squad to compete against the main party.
I hope we can find out more about the origin of the Eliksir drink the second book, and that there will be more of a heroic struggle for the main characters!...more

The novel follows Edgar Freemantle, a man who relocates to a remote island in Florida after a near-fatal accident leaves him physically and emotionally scarred. As he begins to paint, Edgar discovers his art holds a dark and mysterious power.
While the book has its strengths, such as King's vivid descriptions of Duma Key's eerie atmosphere and the exploration of Edgar's psychological journey, it also has some drawbacks that might explain my rating. The pacing can be uneven, with some sections feeling overly drawn out. Additionally, certain plot developments and character motivations may come across as contrived or lacking depth.
King's signature ability to create tension and suspense is evident throughout, and the supernatural elements are woven into the story with his usual skill. However, the novel may not resonate as strongly with readers who prefer more tightly structured narratives or who are looking for a more straightforward horror experience.
Overall, "Duma Key" offers a mix of captivating moments and slower passages, making it a solid but not standout entry in King's extensive bibliography. It’s a book that fans of the author might appreciate for its unique setting and emotional depth, but it may not leave a lasting impression on those looking for a more gripping or cohesive story....more

The story was a familiar with references to his other fantasy series throughout. It was fun, violent and suspenseful, but I just hated the inconsistency of Alex's character, one minute he's completely clueless to what's happening around him, in another he was a skill killer inventive in the way he got himself and Jax out of difficult situation.

On top of this, every issue is like a crossover with another series.
The whole volume was incoherent, I am afraid this is what will ultimately kill the series....more
