I've heard (and read) enough of Bernard's writing to know that she is a fabulous writer. Indeed, all you have to do is pick up the book, turn to any page, read any line, and you'll know what I'm talking about. The pace is lightning and the suspense is killer. In some ways, FIND ME was exactly as I suspected.
And yet, Bernard still managed to surprise me. Actually, she blew me out of the water. Because I didn't expect to fall in love with these characters -- much less to fall so hard. Wick is as tough as they come, and yet, she is so utterly, humanly vulnerable. Griff is unexpected and different -- and still positively dreamy. Theirs is one of the sweetest and most believable romances I've read in years.
I don't often see this combination of writing and pace and characters. But it's here in FIND ME, and all I can say is: wow. Just wow....more

First of all, the writing is just gorgeous. This book is filled with lines like this: "I lean closer to the window, but the snow refuses to be anything other than what it is. It falls thickly on the brown grass, clinging to the spindly branches of barren trees." I love it when words roll around my tongue like a mouthful of jewels -- and Richards manages to create this sensation without distracting one bit from the story.
Then, there's the suspense. The way Richards tells the story had me glued to the pages. I HAD to find out why, why, why, and I could not put down the book until I found out! Truth be told, I don't really like to be scared. And this book is darn creepy. But Richards mixes so much intrigue with the "creep" factor that I didn't even mind the chills running up my spine. From lines like, "Boyfriend is my job, not yours," to pillars of the community who suddenly disappear, to psychiatrists who don't tell the truth, I was hooked from beginning to end.
And finally, there are the characters. Funny, irreverent, loving, and real. They're the kind of characters you wish were real so you could hang out with them all afternoon.

The story was exciting, the characters were charming, and the writing was fantastic. Besides, it's about one of my favorite places -- libraries; specifically, magical portals that will take you to the most beautiful libraries in the world. Can this be an actual thing in real life, please??? I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good, well-told adventure (with some pretty swoony romance to boot!) ...more
