This was a really good book. The setting was so mysterious, it was hard to tell at times whether it was set in the past or the future (you do eventually find out). The story moved quickly and I was drawn into Vega's mission.
My gripes with this book were that the ending felt rushed and that we didn't get much insight or backstory into Noah and Cricket. I know the book was really about Vega's mission, but I felt this took away from the story. ...more
I was so disappointed by this book. I've enjoyed some of Davis' previous work, which always centers an iconic NYC building.

This time, however, the building barely played into the story. Mostly, the story revolved around a bomber who spent some 15+ years planting bombs around NYC. We got some brief history and fun facts about the Rockettes. It was hard to be invested in the main characters because so much of the story felt disjointed.
We also got a narrative about the origin of psychologists build profiles to help catch serial predators. Unfortunately, this didn't seem to align with anything I've previously read. When it comes to historical fiction, some things can be changed but this felt beyond the pale and ruined the book for me....more

This boThis entire book is a very big statement on why authors really shouldn't read reviews of their books. Reviews are for readers not for authors. This book was set on a nearly isolated coastline and both the environment and the house itself were so atmospheric and creepy. The book kept me reading as the author got more and more deranged. It's a little graphic in places, so if you prefer a cozy mystery, read cautiously.

The story dragged on and on and yet we didn't get all that much character development. Why doesn't Frankie remember things from college? I realize that she doesn't remember the night before due to the alcohol she consumed, but she seems to have forgotten a lot of her college years. This whole thing was ludicrous. Where were their friends all night? Why doesn't anyone check on them and help them figure this out? So silly. ...more
I think the best part of this book was the sense of girl power/feminism in it. I was expecting more of a brothers coming of age road trip and it wasn’t that at all. While some of the storylines were compelling, overall it felt full of fluff and filler. Sadly this one was disappointing for me....more

The characters are compelling. The story made me angry with so many societal institutions, codes of acceptable behavior, and the history of racist colonization in general. Yet, despite that or maybe because of it, the characters making their own way was that much more worth cheering for. One star off because end felt a little too tied up neatly with a bow against the backdrop of the characters' histories and the book themes. ...more

I enjoyed this one. The plot keeps moving quickly and I never knew what creepy thing was going to happen next. I read a lot of thrillers, so twists are unfortunately often predictable. With this one, I saw some coming, but certainly not all of them. Great read! ...more
