it was amazing

I always have a problem with Pulitzer Prize nominees and winners, they feel snobbish and a bit of a show off but not Colson Whitehead. You know when you are reading Latin American literature and the atmosphere feels humid and hot, same thing with Black literature. The atmosphere feels heavy, oppressive, it actually makes me feel nauseous. With "The Nickel Boys" that atmosphere is still there but double it and I feel that's what makes it work. This was absolutely heartbreaking! I read it for a book club selection and did not want to because I know I would like it and would feel sad and angry. After reading, I felt miserable, offended and just pure rage. Its a cruel world especially for Black Lives. If you gives this book 1-2 stars then you're a heartless human being. If you didn't feel anything after this then you are made of stone. One of the most heartbreaking stories I've read.
