I have seen many industries make changes. The industry of companies going from paper to paperless systems and computers, Analog to Digital, manual assembly to automation equipment and bar code scanning processes and the internet, PDAs, Software and wireless devices. Too many to mention and it goes on. I had to adapt in the industries, I was working to keep up with the new tech changes and introduction of the processes. If you are new to the field, then your learning curve can be challenging. Many employees that have been in the field for years, had to rely on their past work experience and help with the company implementation of the new methods, process and equipment to ensure a smooth transition. This is a constant cycle in job search.
Finally, as a case manager, you are a voice for your clients. Stay abreast of policy changes and be prepared to advocate for their needs. This might mean working with community leaders or policymakers to address systemic issues affecting client care. Your ability to advocate boldly and creatively can lead to significant improvements in the services available to those you serve.

When it comes to case management you have to remember you are dealing with people and not their medical identification. It is so easy to do the work for the numbers of the company but what it ultimately comes down to is working with that person. I have seen in my experience when it comes to the member asking any questions, whether it be their doctor or food distribution company, they may not want to ask because they don’t want to feel “dumb”. So us as case managers we have to sometimes be their voice to ask the question but also advocate for them to be able to be self sufficient.
