7th and 8th Grade History Teacher

Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school, seeks an Interim 7th and 8th Grade History Teacher who genuinely appreciates and actively supports the Quaker philosophy that underlies our school for school year 2024-2025. This full-time benefits-eligible position is based on the Washington, DC, campus and begins in August 2024.

Reporting to the Middle School Principal, the History Teacher will teach 7th grade United States history and 8th grade Ancient World history. Other duties include advising a group of 7th and 8th grade students; writing student reports; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families; attendance at meetings; and other faculty duties such as recess and lunch supervision. The omission of specific responsibilities does not preclude duties logically related to the position from being assigned.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in History or a related field is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Have 3-5 years of teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of United States history, politics, culture, and ancient world civilizations is required.
  • Ability to teach analytical writing, critical thinking, and research skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively and thrive in an environment committed to academic excellence.
  • Demonstrate an appreciation for young adolescents and a sense of humor are also essential.
  • Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus-based and in-person. This position requires teaching in person.
  • Active CPR certification or can quickly obtain one by the start date.
