Role Description:

The Franklin Design Team Manager not only acts as a Senior Designer, excelling at all tasks encompassed in that role, but is also responsible for ensuring high-quality design services that are responsive to the needs of clients and sales team members. This individual is responsible for managing design department resources and assisting in onboarding/training and meeting the deadlines of the customers and sales staff.

The individual works with the Senior Vice President to manage space planning and design efforts for Franklin. Responsibilities include:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Oversee design employees and contractors at both Showroom office and remote locations
  • Manage a team of 10 Designers
  • Mentor and develop young design talent
  • Create individual development plans for each team member, providing necessary mentorship and training
  • Handle staffing and scheduling, including PTO, field measurements, meeting appointments, and medical leave
  • Engage in ongoing sales, leadership, management, and coaching training opportunities

Design Quality & Innovation

  • Serve as a Senior Designer on selected projects
  • Ensure the quality of all design outputs
  • Drive innovation within the design team
  • Implement and enforce design standards, templates, and training materials
  • Maintain awareness of competitive products, bid analysis, needs assessments, presentations, space planning, codes, specifications, and installation documents
  • Lead efforts to stay updated on new products, trends, technology, and business growth sectors

Strategic & Business Integration

  • Support Showroom strategy and implementation in collaboration with Sales Leaders
  • Advocate for design solutions that challenge clients' perceptions respectfully
  • Contribute to the Furniture Leadership Team, promoting Franklin and continually improving the department
  • Integrate knowledge of all business units’ offerings into the team’s design approach, fostering cross-departmental collaboration
  • Ensure consistent deliverables across all projects

What We’re Looking For:

Relevant Industry Experience: The ideal candidate would have experience in an Interior Design role, with a proven track record of participating in successful projects within the commercial interiors space. Experience in CET Commercial Interiors is required.

Drive and Initiative: A passion for creating functional, beautiful, and forward-thinking designs is essential. Constantly searching for an innovative approach to workplace solutions, client presentations and deliverables. This candidate will lead the design team to be the energy and creative engine of our company

Autonomy and Collaboration: Ability to work independently without supervision, while also collaborating effectively with internal teams and clients to achieve common goals.

Problem-Solving Skills: Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities are essential, along with the capacity to negotiate and navigate complex scenarios. personnel and organizational problems

Education: A bachelor’s degree in interior design. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial interior design. At least 3 years’ experience in managing staff resources.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend networking events after hours
  • Attend on-site customer visits
  • Manage licensing and users for Configura, Steelcase, and Project Matrix
