A Successful Shift In Mindset From Self To Other

A Successful Shift In Mindset From Self To Other

I admit it, I'm human! Sometimes you just have days when you are in a bit of a mood, nothing seems to work (probably because your mind is not thinking straight and against you) and you can't seem to shake the seed of self-doubt.

This is exactly the space I was in last week when I went back to the gym for the first time since I went to Italy. I always challenge myself to work my hardest, achieve my best and don't give up in whatever exercise I am given and usually, the harder the challenge the better.

However, last week when I was in this funky mood I was hoping to be given some basic exercises where I could challenge myself, go at my own pace and not let anyone down.

The universe had other ideas.

We were set a partner challenge to complete a certain amount of exercises in the shortest time as a partnership. My trainer, Brandon Clift knows me so said you can't choose the easy level. For the first time ever, I snapped and said, "I'm not in the mood" I can honestly only handle the easy one, that's all I have today and if I am in a team, I can't let them down.

But my partner wanted to go harder and challenge herself so I had to step up to the mark.

Do you know what happened as a result?

I stepped up, shifted my mindset to thinking of someone else and achieving the goal for my partner and encouraged her every step of the way.

With this shift in mindset to someone else, another really thing happened.

My partner, Lindsay Johnson challenged herself to Box Jumps, an exercise she had never been able to do because of fear of falling.

As she was working with me and saw how I shifted mindset she gave it a go and was so very excited because she smashed the exercise for the first time ever she overcame her fears.

She was so happy and dancing around the place and I was so happy for her as well because together we had overcome our own blocks in our mind and finished the harder exercises together.

The reason I write this short article is to remind myself and you about the importance of your mindset and team work.

If you are feeling in a bit of a funk and nothing seems to work, try taking a break, do some exercise or help a friend out to overcome one of their battles. This helps refocus and get on with it.

Thank you Brandon Clift for always challenging me to believe I can do it. Also, Lindsay Johnson for partnering up.
