Weird & Wonderful Gadgets Light Up CES 2024: From AI Mirrors to Brain Implants

Las Vegas is buzzing again with the annual tech extravaganza, CES, and this year, AI is the undisputed ruler of the gadget kingdom. But beyond the algorithms and bots, some truly bizarre and brilliant inventions emerged, capturing the attention of both media and attendees.

1. Mirror, Mirror on the Wall... Who's Healthiest of Them All?

Say hello to NuraLogix's MagicMirror, a connected marvel that scans your face and reveals your body mass index, blood pressure, and even your "mental stress index" – all in seconds! Lindsay Brennan, NuraLogix's marketing exec, braved the mirror's judgment, discovering a stress level in the "almost yellow zone" thanks to, she joked, "the show." But this isn't mere parlour trickery. NuraLogix claims its AI-powered optical tech can even assess the risk of diseases like type 2 diabetes. Now, for just under $7,000, you can have your health assessed before heading to the doctor (they even sell the software separately!).

2. Implanting Hope: Walking Again with Imagine

Forget wheelchairs, French scientists present Imagine, a brain implant offering paralyzed individuals the potential to walk again. This brain-to-machine interface connects directly with the motor cortex, interpreting thought and translating it into movement. In one scenario, the implant sends data wirelessly to a spinal connector, bypassing the paralyzed area. In another, it talks to an exoskeleton, letting the user grasp objects or even walk. Clinical trials are on the horizon, and while five to ten years of research remain, hope shines bright for a more mobile future.

3. Rock My Baby: AI Stroller Takes Parenting to the Next Level

Move over, traditional strollers, Gluxkind's AI-powered ride is here to be your co-pilot. This electric marvel tackles hills with ease, brakes automatically to prevent runaway situations, and even recognizes hazards like pets and bikes, alerting sleep-deprived parents. But it doesn't stop there. Activate the "Rock My Baby" mode, and the stroller gently sways your little one to sleep. Built-in speakers play music, read stories, and emit white noise – all for the cool price of $2,400. Gluxkind aims to roll these strollers out next spring, promising to redefine baby-wrangling for the tech-savvy parent.

This is just a taste of the weird and wonderful inventions that lit up CES 2024. From health-tracking mirrors to brain-powered mobility, it's clear that technology is pushing the boundaries of innovation, making the future look ever more fascinating and unexpected.
