I wanted to share this new guideline, which hopefully will help expand access to genetic testing and help people diagnosed with breast cancer make informed decisions. FORCE was honored to be part of this process and serve on the guideline panel.
A new ASCO-Society of Surgical Oncology guideline provides a framework for how to approach #GermlineTesting in #BreastCancer and makes recommendations for who and which genes should be tested. It aims to address two of the key goals regarding this testing: guiding treatment decision making and helping patients and clinicians understand future risk. Read more: https://brnw.ch/21wFQCm

Happy New Year and Happy 25th Anniversary to FORCE! It seems almost impossible that it was 25 years ago today that I first embarked on my advocacy journey (and new career path), starting FORCE as a small support website basically from my garage! I never imagined how important this community and organization would become in my life! I hope all who find FORCE and the hereditary cancer community experience the same amount of love, help, knowledge, support and fulfillment that I have. https://lnkd.in/eYP6N4nZ

SOROCK is an important study that could lead to better options for preventing ovarian cancer in high risk women.
Women with a BRCA1 mutation ages 35 – 50 who have their ovaries may consider enrolling in the SOROCk study. SOROCk is looking at whether or not removal of fallopian tubes alone can reduce the risk of ovarian cancer nearly as much as removing both the ovaries and fallopian tubes among women with an inherited BRCA1 mutation. The main benefit of preserving the ovaries is to prevent surgically induced menopause. The study will also examine quality of life outcomes. https://ow.ly/vI6w50Pywy2 #FacingOurRisk
