Police have arrested a man in connection with the investigation into human remains found on Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge.
The Metropolitan Police said that a 34-year-old suspect was arrested in the early hours of Saturday at Bristol Temple Meads Station. He is due to be transferred to London for questioning by detectives.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said: "This is a significant development in our investigation and I would like to thank the public for their support.
"We understand the concerns of local communities in both Bristol and London and officers will remain in the Clifton and Shepherd’s Bush areas over the coming days to reassure those affected by this tragic incident.”

It comes after the force found additional human remains in Shepherds Bush, west London, which are thought to be of the same two victims found in Bristol on Wednesday.
While formal identification of the victims from the Bristol incident is yet to be completed, both are believed to be adult males.
The results of the first post-mortem examination have been described as "inconclusive", with a second post-mortem currently underway.
On Friday, police arrested a 36-year-old man in Greenwich, south London. It is understood this individual has been released without charge.
Scotland Yard has taken over the manhunt following the discovery of human remains in Bristol, with a new crime scene established in Shepherds Bush, west London.
Additional body parts were found at the London location, but police confirm these are connected to the Bristol case and maintain there are only two victims.
Witnesses have described how the man, who arrived at the Bristol bridge in a taxi, was challenged after the “tatty” suitcase was seen to be leaking blood.
He left the scene, reportedly chased by a cyclist, and made off in the direction of Leigh Woods, leaving the suitcase behind.
Avon and Somerset Police said officers arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and discovered that the suitcase, along with a second located a short distance from the bridge, contained human remains.
Police also confirmed that a taxi had been seized and said the taxi driver was helping officers with the investigation.
