Hi. Pretty Simple question. Is there a way to export pdf in the theme I’m using except of the default red and white pdf export?
For macOS, I can repeat a bug that deletes extra text and crashes Bear. Tested on Mac Studio M1 and MacBook Pro M3. Version 2.2.1 (12703). Not tested on iOS.
Scenarios
-
Create some text with a block quote and have an empty line in between two lines of the block quote
-
Press the Forward DEL key ONCE on a full size keyboard or FN+DELETE on a MacBook keyboard
Results
-
Result 01: If there is text under the block quote, it will delete more text than it should
-
Result 02: If the block quote is the end of the document and no text is underneath, it will crash Bear
Looking for similar apps to these two that perfectly balances minimalism, functionality and UI/aesthetics.
Hi, avid Bear user here!
Not sure if this has already been requested, perhaps on a different form. But I’ll post what I think would be a great addition along with a clear use case.
Could we get an implementation of smart tags from Apple Notes? For example, a combination of tags and/or search filters, including excluded topics too.
These could live in the tags area or have their very own category.
For instance, I’m working on using Bear as a commonplace book. It would be nice to merge tags such as my personal reflections, ideas, and journal entries into one place without creating a new tag that has to be added to notes each time they’re entered. The less tags the better.
Then, through the Shortcuts app, random notes could be pulled i.e. 5 a day from this tags, which keep the ideas/concepts fresh in my mind.
This would be an excellent way to leverage a new feature for an app that’s already quickly becoming a leading notes and personal wiki system.
Hello team,
The External Folders feature will enable you to edit files from a specific folder (Folder X) using Bear files on your local computer, iCloud, and OneDrive. It will also allow Windows and Linux users to edit the same files from their machines. I really enjoyed using this feature in Ulysses for editing my files from any operating system.
The Saved Searches feature, similar to Workflowy, will allow you in Bear to save a search string by tapping an icon. You will be able to access these saved searches in the Notes panel, making it easy to quickly return to previous search results with a single click. This feature will boost productivity for those users, like myself, who use a lot of tags with a lot of notes and would use the time currently spent searching for them using specific criteria for doing actual work instead.
With the Command Repeat feature, you can apply styling to many words or larger text individually in a note just by tapping a keyboard shortcut. For example, this will simplify the styling of content in large tables in Bear, which is currently difficult to do.
Thank you.
How about searching to filter tags on the left sidebar?
-
You could quickly click on the tag you want and enter a more focused note browsing state.
-
You don’t have to find a note first then click the tag you want. This could possibly help you find other tags for cleanup or reference you may have forgotten about.

This would leave the notes library search bar open for other search criteria versus making a huge search combo
In the interim, I can experiment with Shortcuts, but I’m currently having issues finding subtags with the URL schemes. However, this would still clutter the library search bar.
Am I doing something wrong with the search criteria? I can search for my subtag #*/daily notes#
without any issues while using Bear, but if I try to create it through , it doesn’t launch Bear with the search criteria filled in. Instead it launches Bear like I was using it normally.
I really like using Bear, mainly because of the look and feel. I really like the simplicity and enjoy using it most of the time. However, I am really missing a couple of things. Mainly the Math support. It is such a pain to write equations in another editor, make screenshots of them and put them into my bear note. Another thing is the support for diagrams. With tools like mermaid.js it would be so good to integrate into markdown. While I do not mind this too much, it would still be great.
I think in general the customers that use bear for some kind of technical/academic note taking could deserve a little more love.
Are there any plans to implement math support in the near future?
Hide tags from the library preview. My previews aren’t useful with tags cluttering them. It’s not a solution for me to put them at the bottom only because I don’t prefer them there. I’m on the same page with others who prefer to put tags at the top before or after the first heading.
Process tags in Markdown metadata at the top like iA Writer currently does. We can have tags there which process in our library and are hidden with the other metadata during exports. This would be my favorite solution.
Remove the extra space while ignoring tags from exports. This is probably tough since people use inline tags, so I’m not sure how it would work. If I have 3 to 4 lines of tags at the top or bottom and then export, there is a lot of extra white space I wish that wasn’t there. This causes me to take a Bear note, remove the tags and extra lines myself, then export it to a PDF or Image. If the tags were living in the metadata, then Bear could possibly remove the metadata and white space from exports to avoid deleting inline tag data.
I want to be able to click a button, put some text in a text box, have that text added to a specific note in Bear, and stay on the Home Screen. So far, I got my shortcut to do everything except stay on the Home Screen. Any way I can avoid either going to Bear or going to the Shortcuts app when I’m done? Thanks.
Are you able to export a note filled with Wiki Links, so they expand into one document without the Wiki Links? Similar to file transclusion with iA Writer.
I want to export Note A with all of the page contents, which are Wiki Links. Not the actual Wiki Links. Has anyone experimented with this?

Came across this by coincidence today.

Super easy to set up and use
One of the handiest features of iOS 18, for me, will be the ability to transcribe meetings and phone calls.
I do that now, in a clunky way, using Otter and a second device, then copying and pasting text into Bear.
Anyone using iOS 18 know if there’s a way to record directly, or nearly directly, to Bear? From what I understand the transcriptions go to Apple Notes, but hopefully there’s a quick way to bounce them to Bear.
At least it won’t require a second device.
Thoughts?
Hello everyone, do you know the character limit for the notes on Apple Watch?
Since date and times are options built into Bear, I was thinking it could be expanded and customized further. Shortcuts is my current solution for custom date formats.
-
Could Bear add the date and time metadata from the note creation and modification dates to the list of
Date Formats
along with keyboard shortcuts?
-
Could Bear add an area in settings where we can build our own date and time formats similar to Hazel?
Hello Everyone
I've recently noticed again that certain Tags, such as #finance, trigger a pre-selected TagCon. Is there a documented list of these particular keywords?
Couldn't find anything on the Bear Docs site...
Hi there! This might be impossible with how the MacOS app currently handles PDFs, but would there be any way to have Bear remember my location in longer PDF attachments? A frequent use case for me is marking up and noting multi-page PDFs within a Bear note, but not making it all the way through the docs in one sitting. The mark ups within the PDF save correctly, but when I go back into the PDF on my iPad or Mac, it's always starting me on Page 1. Anyone have workaround ideas for this? Thanks! Love the product so much. After years of bouncing around different note apps and methodologies, Bear is the one that *really* clicks and makes it a pleasure to write and search notes.
Hey there,
I love this app but I would like to use more of my screen for editing. Is there a functionality/toggle that allows me to to do this?
For example, this is the left side of my page - how can I use this space
