The collection of the late billionaire Rudolf August Oetker, a former member of the Waffen-SS, is being thoroughly researched 'to assess whether any audited artwork belonged to a person persecuted for reasons of race, reli-gion, nationality, ideology or political opposition to National Socialism who was wrongfully deprived of such an artwork', according to a statement from the Board. The collection includes a wide range of artworks including paintings, silver and porcelain. The research will initially focus on the collection of paintings which numbers several hundred. So far, four artworks have been identified as 'candidates for restitution or the payment of financial compensation' and negotations with the rightful owners are ongoing. (inglés)

Kaselowsky’s stepson, Rudolf-August Oetker, was drafted into the German army in 1940 and volunteered for the SS the following year. He began his officer’s training in 1942. As part of his training, Oetker enrolled in courses at Dachau concentration camp northwest of Munich, where one of the SS officer’s schools was based. Camp prisoners were forced to clean the aspiring officer’s rooms, according to the study. “It was an ideological decision,” said Keller. “You didn’t sign up for the Waffen-SS if you weren’t convinced that Nazism was the right thing.” (inglés)
