凡物氧化至劇，光熱並生，即火也。古人不明化學，遂列元素，中華五行、泰西四元素說皆如是。
華夏以燧人氏鑽木取火；希臘以普羅米修斯盜火。先民以火，離腥膻以達文明也。
當世究知，火為電漿，物質第四態也[一]。又焚物既異，火色光暗亦異也。
生火之先，須備燃料、高溫、氧化劑三者，缺一不可[二]，據質量守恆律，所焚之物不泯，蓋行效為分子矣。
