Parameter errors in {{Information}}

I see that you modified {{Information}} so that lots of files are added to Category:Pages using Information template with incorrect parameter. However, I suspect that there is some error in the code. For example, at File:Vertinsky.jpg, it says that parameter 1 is used, but I can't find any parameter 1 in the wikicode. Could you take a look? --Stefan4 (talk) 20:38, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

A = was missing. Parameter 1 will probably be the most numerous error, since it often shows missing = or an incorrect use of |. If we do not want to miss many severe errors, we cannot hide parameter 1 errors. --Leyo 21:30, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Oh, I totally missed that missing =... There's another problem: {{Flickr}} always includes an {{Information}} using the non-existing parameter "demo", so there are lots of warnings for files from Flickr. --Stefan4 (talk) 21:41, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

It's not rare that file description pages created by CommonsHelper need to be fixed manually.

Some regexes for Category:Language templates with no text displayed

Hi, Leyo. Recently, I've found some regexes with VFC:

2. /(|Description\s*=\s*)\{\{(en|de)(\|(1=)?)?\s*\}\}\n\|/g → $1\n|
3. /\{\{(en|de)\|((.|\s)+?)\}\}\n(\||\{\{)/g → {{$1|1=$2}}\n$4

Neuer Versuch. Ich denke es ist hier besser das Artwork anstatt Information template einzusetzen mit artist creator template Dirck van Delen. Aber schon wenn ich Information durch Artwork ersetze, bekomme ich, wahrscheinlich durch das template rijksmonument, eine zweite Parameter -Spalte. Es ist aber nicht so wichtig, dann bleibt es halt so. Ich dachte nur, Du weißt hier vielleicht weiter. All these pictures were taken during a Backstage Pass at the Museu de la Música in Barcelona, and I don't know much about the instruments and objects displayed. Because of that, in order to avoid possible mistakes, the Museum's staff decided they would check the pictures afterwards to give them a more accurate description. --Enfo (talk) 08:36, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Summary: Images by Reddog11223

Hello Leyo, following up on our discussion on INeverCry's talkpage, and a thread on the courtesy proposal, I'd like to reopen a combined DR discussion for these three of Reddog11223's images (the ones he clearly requested to remove):

I don't generally like reopening any request that was just closed, but I think the discussions since the close have been relevant. And while some have been listed more than once before, the only relevant courtesy requests were the recent one, where he asked for deletion himself. Rather than have conversations on the courtesy deletion page and user talk pages, I'd prefer to have a consolidated & updated discussion, in a single DR. It's ok if the result of that is to keep again (hopefully stripping EXIF data, as you and others have suggested); that will provide a clearer history for anyone referring to those images in the future.

You were the most vocal proponent of deletion, and I understand you still think all of them should be kept. Do you have a problem with me relisting this? --SJ+ 19:00, 25 December 2013 (UTC)

To me, reopening would look like a “Zwängerei” (I don't find a good translation, sorry). First make the courtesy proposal a policy, then reopen; not the other way round.

An important aspect in this user's request is that he requested to delete all his uploads. IMO such requests should generally be declined. There are (also) many users who leave Wikipedia/Commons in anger. Do you really think that such requests should be fulfilled? For example, if I would decide to leave and request for deletion of all my thousands of uploads… --Leyo 00:48, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

Thank you, I've learned a charming word (that isn't in Wiktionary!). However we delete images based on courtesy now, without a policy... the policy page is trying to capture current practice (where courtesy is considered), not to generate new practice. The issue with these reddog requests is that courtesy wasn't considered by most commentators; they used other reasons, irrelevant for a courtesy requests. To see the difference, compare the similar image that reddog nominated at the identical time with identical reasoning, closed by mattbuck.

Reddog didn't upload a lot of images, so asking to delete "all" is hardly a big deal. But I don't see him departing in anger; his deletion requests are calm and clear:

1 "Wife no longer wantsour private photo on show",

2 "Wife no longer wants her private photo on show",

3 "Wife no longer wants her Vulva on display"

Requests to delete private photos of people should get extra priority, in my view, since the subject as well as the photographer can feel harmed (as in reddog's case). I think even a photographer who specializes in portraits and has done hundreds of portraits of non-notable people, if they decided to delete them, should be honored.

If you decided to leave, while most of your photos don't have people in them, I think arequest to delete your own unused photos should be considered with respect. People would try to understand why you wanted them deleted (presumably it would be for a solid reason; just as reddog's request was), and might try to change your mind. But if you had a sincere reason, and were not just angry, I would be inclined to support such a request. Particularly for any images that were easily replaceable or had only vague educational value. --SJ+ 08:46, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Leyo, I'm cleaning up w:Category:Wikipedia files moved to Wikimedia Commons which could not be deleted. In the image above Magog the Ogre marked it as being unsuitable for Commons and I'm trying to resolve this either by deleting in Commons or getting a consensus that it can stay so I can remove the template from the Wikipedia file and get the file deleted from Wikipedia. Hi, I'm not sure I understand how this is a English Wikipedia problem. The issue raised is that the image is not suitable for Commons. Potentially the images are in violation of Commons licencing. They do not violate the en:wiki guidelines since it can allow fair use if it needs to but Commons can not. If Commons isn't the best place to decide this, where would be a better place to discuss it? Whiling cleaning up I found some images had deletion requests like these and were decided to keep, so shouldn't these images get the same review if doubts are raised? Thanks again. Before tagging dozens of file, the nominator should have read COM:TOO. And there is no need to be overcautious, i.e. nominating logos for deletion that are unlikely to meet TOO. In addition, you may assume that knowledge concerning TOO in German language countries is better in de.wikipedia than in en.wikipedia. --Leyo 23:19, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Since concerns had been raised by an experienced administrator and I felt by raising the request I was addressing COM:PRP, however if that has caused problems I apologize. I've cancelled a few of the requests where I could show similar images on Commons, however in same cases that still hasn't been sufficient enough given Commons is understaffed and just because a lot of examples are available on Commons doesn't mean they should be. I have a message informing me that there is a problem with the e information provided for this image. I have no idea why. It is licensed according to the license provided by the uploader. I brightened the image, which was dark, and copy-pasted all the information, with the additionnal statement that the image, licensed by the creator, had come from Commons. I don't know what the problem is. Could you please explain it, or help me rectify it, since all the information is clearly provided, and you apparently know what the problem is, whereas I do not.

A while ago, you uploaded a new/replacement image at that filename, "addressed dispute; nitrogen might be protonated". But the old and new both appear the same. All I see is a different (and better IMO) position of the indole NH, no actual chemical change of protonation states. Is this anionic form known/important? Soweit ich beobachten kann (bin nicht Bot-Betreiber von commonshelper) verwendet der neue Commonshelper mit OAuth die Vorlage {{BotMoveToCommons}} nicht mehr. Durch OAuth ist der commonshelper nicht mehr so einfach zu erkennen, da er im Namen des Benutzers den Transfer durchführt. Wenn ich Dateien via User:Wdwdbot verschiebe, verwende ich nicht mehr den Commonshelper, der Transfer wird seit einigen Monaten selbstständig durchgeführt, und verwende diese Vorlage auch nicht mehr.

Ob man diese oben genannte Kategorie noch braucht, kann ich nicht sicher sagen. Würde aufgrund der Randbeobachtung eher auf "wird nicht mehr gebraucht" tippen.--11:18, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

User:OgreBot 2 führt ja die clean ups bei neuen Uploads durch. Dabei könnte er ja überprüfen, von wo aus transferriert wurde und ggf. die Vorlage hinzufügen. Ich denke, dass könnte evtl. einfacher sein, als diese Änderung im CommonsHelper unterzubringen. Jetzt ist der DR beendet; dennoch werden wir Uf ersetzen und dann deleten - in aller Ruhe. Deine Namensvorschläge erscheinen mir gut brauchbar, doch ehe ich weitermache würde ich gern geklärt haben ob (und wie) die Erweiterung in Information erfolgt, auf dass es dann zusammenpasst. Vielleicht kannst du die zuständigen Leute anstossen, damit da was kommt? Ein zusätzliches optionales Feld “Image creation” würde endlich eine Vereinheitlichung der Info-Box ermöglichen, das wäre eine sehr gute Sache; und eine sinnvolle Übersetzung in alle Zungen kann so gewährleistet werden. Jarekt wird das sicher nicht schwerfallen! Als Alternative zu so einem Parameter/Feld (nach Author) kommt noch Other fields 1 (nach Description) in Frage, da sind sicher viele mit den Umständlichkeiten der Informations fields überfordert. Und da auch noch Übersetzungen einzubauen ist sicher nicht sinnvoll.

In Template talk:Uf#Usage examples sind Beispiele dieser Positionierungen.

Mein unprotection request steht nun auch schon einige Zeit ohne Reaktion. Die Vorlage ist ja nun wirklich nicht so gefährdet, aber wenn du meinst kannst du mir einen ping geben damit ich schnell die Erweiterung einbaue, und ich pinge dich dann damit du wieder protecten kannst. Zum Abschluss: von deinen Vorschlägen (die niemand kommentierte) erscheint mir {{Image generation}} am geeignetsten. Bei "Image creation" irritiert mich die Assoziation zu "creation" - die Grafiken werden ja meist nicht durch den Schöpfungsakt einer göttlichen Instanz erschaffen, sondern mehr oder weniger mühsam gebastelt; deshalb habe ich "development" überlegt, weil "Entwicklung" den Entstehungsprozess besser beschreibt. Doch "generation", also etwa "Erzeugung" trifft es auch ganz gut, obwohl es wiederum weniger zur Serie der "Created with ..."-Vorlagen passt. Danke für diese Information. Ich werde das Bild aus dem Artikel nehmen, da es über den unter Weblinks angegebenen Link (Fotomontage der Brücke über die Tamina Schlucht) abgerufen werden kann. There is a tag for Danish photos older than 70 years without known autor. This is 123 years old and has presumably never ever been a copyright issue ever before. Well this should come as no great surprise, but everyone's favourite laserist has reuploaded 34 of his images to en.Wikipedia and has added most (all?) of them back to articles. He's done this at the same time as opening an undeletion request for those same images on Commons. I'm not sure where he got those sources from, but I won't participate in the deletion discussion, as I can not promise to be impartial with this user. I am currently in the process of uploading a set of images to replace his ones. He has also insulted me on my talk page at en.Wikipedia, so I'll not participate. Danke für die Eliminierung von User:Alkab/SVG. Ich versuche gerade, den ausufernden Wildwuchs von template-redirects ein klein wenig einzudämmen; ohne das allzusehr in einen Kreuzzug ausarten zu lassen... Es mag ja nicht schaden, wenn jeder nach Lust und Laune seinen eigenen Redirect bastelt, doch IMHO leidet irgendwann, bei mehr als 20 Varianten, die Übersichtlichkeit.
Darf ich dich in diesem Zusammenhang bitten, einige redirects auszutauschen wo ich als simple user nicht ran kann:

• in Mongolia 1500 AD.jpg, Crystal Clear app kcoloredit.png, Notepad icon.png, Logo book2.png "ShouldBeSVG" zu "Convert to SVG".
• in Wikimedia-button-for-homepage.png: "svg available" zu "SVG available".

Bei letzterem gibt es seit langem die SVG-Version, aber weil das PNG in Layouts der wikisource-Seiten eingearbeitet ist wird es intensiv frequentiert. Da muss auch irgendwann mal jemand ran, der die Berechtigung hat.

• The source of File:The Cathedral of Dodoma.JPG, i.e. sw:Picha:Dodoma Cathedral.JPG, does not contain a license. Thus, Commons cannot accept the file.
• In the case of File:St. Michael's Cathedral, Korogwe.jpg, there are several problems including that you transferred the preview size (800×600 pixels) only (instead of 2,560×1,920 pixels). It is easiest if you do the transfer again, but using toollabs:commonshelper.
• File:Road to Korogwe, with the Usambara Mountains. Tanzania.jpg was fixed manually.

Hallo Leyo, beim etablierten Vorgehen dauert es immer endlos lange bis irgendeiner irgendwas macht. Vorhin habe ich dir all das erzählt damit du sehen kannst dass hier wirklich sorgfältig und überlegt gearbeitet worden ist. IMHO kann die Vorlage ohne weitere Prüfung so übernommen werden!
Es ist natürlich deine Verantwortung und ich finde gut dass du sichergehen willst. Es ist schliesslich der Sinn der protection die Funktion einer mehr als 63000mal verwendeten Vorlage sicherzustellen, und öfteres Herumeditieren zu vermeiden. Und du kannst mir zwar glauben, aber musst es nicht: Vertrauen ist gut, Kontrolle ist besser.
Wenn du also genauer nachsehen willst, wirst du in der Disku alles finden können, auch den link zu den sandbox-templates. Bis auf die noinclude-Kategorisierung sind sie ident. Es ist alles oftmals geprüft worden, zuletzt auch nochmals von mir.
Selbst wenn du gerade zu viel um die Ohren hast und dennoch meinst genauer hinsehen zu müssen, wird es so sicher um einige Wochen früher gehen. Auf dem runden Button an der Jacke finde ich die Jahreszahlen «1926-2008» und auf der rechten Seite steht der Name «Bob Reardon». Und dann ist da noch dieser Weblink Bob Reardon. Transparent background and stylesheet

Hi Leyo,

I got the ".eps → .svg using scribus" trick working, finally. It produces compounds with transparent background, but I guess that is okay, is it? And I wanted to ask. Do you know if the provided stylesheet can be backwards applied to structures created in ChemDraw? Or do I have to open the stylesheet and then re-draw the compound from scratch? A transparent background is better than a white one.

No, you don't need to re-draw anything. Just select “File” → “Apply Document Settings from” and choose the right stylesheet. You need to answer the question with “Yes”. --Leyo 18:08, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

To be honest, your new uploads still look quite different than the consensus style:

We applied your style sheet, you did not state in the village pump conversation that different font is also prefferable. We started to use Liberation-Sans as Patrick87 said that mediawiki replaces arial with it - see his comment at Commons:Graphics_village_pump#Problem_rendering_chemical_structures. Howabout you create a page with guide on creating vector chemical structures (since you say it is a "consensus") here on commons instead of de.wiki so people dont have to learn the hard way (like redoing their work 4 times)? --Wesalius (talk) 22:28, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
