cepted the position of Colonel of the Regiment. H. M.Carr, of Crawfordsville, who had served in the nth Indianaas Captain, during the three months service, and hadre-enlisted in the three years service in that Regiment, wascommissioned Lieutenant-Colonel. After the organizationwas complete Dr. Lewis resigned, on account of not beingable to arrange his private business so that he could go withthe Regiment to the held, and Lieutenant-Colonel Carr waspromoted to the Colonelcy. The roster of field officers wascompleted by the appointment of George P. Buell, of Law-renceburg, Lieutenant-Colonel ; James T. Embree, ofPrinceton, Major. * The following staff officers wereappointed : J. Lee Yaryan, of Richmond, Adjutant ; SamuelSterne, of Princeton, Quartermaster; Dr. W. W. Blair, ofPrinceton, Surgeon; Dr. J. R. Adams, of Petersburg,Assistant Surgeon ; Joseph Grant, of Utica, Sergeant-Major ;Henry Torrence, Xenia, Ohio, Quartermaster Sergeant;John G. DR. ANDREW LEWIS. For Biographical Sketch see page 567. FIFTY-EIGHTH INDIANA REGIMENT. 27 Hadlock, Hospital Steward. The appointment of Chaplainwas not made for several months after the Regiment wasorganized. The rendezvous of the Regiment was in theGibson county fair grounds and was known as Camp Gibson.The following are the Company organizations : Company A was recruited from Gibson and Pike counties,largely, and had first gone into camp at Evansville with theexpectation of becoming a part of the 43d Indiana, whichwas then forming at that place. Finding that Regimentfull, the Companv was ordered to Princeton and thusbecame the first Company of the 58th Indiana, and one otthe first to enter Camp Gibson. The Company was officeredas follows: Captain Thomas G. Brown, of Gentryville ;First Lieutenant William Davis, Francisco ; Second Lieu-tenant John Hoke, Princeton.
