Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Dragons (mušḫuššu, representing the god Marduk) and aurochs (bulls, representing the god Adad) from the 3rd building phase of the Ishtar Gate of Babylon. The glazed aurochs and dragons (colored, glazed, and molded bricks) of the reconstructed Ishtar Gate represent the 3rd building phase (seen by the public in antiquity; above the ground level). Colored, glazed, and molded bricks. From Babylon, reign of Nebuchadnezzar II, 6th century BCE. Pergamon Museum, Berlin, Germany.
