Description
English: Asymmetrical single-circuit pylon of the 70 kV power line from Merchtem to Essene in Opwijk (Belgium). The dutch/flemish name Driehoeksmast (triangular pylon) comes from the triangular shape in which the circuit hangs. In Belgium this type of pylon is widely used in light connections where no second circuit is planned: these single-circuit pylons are economically and technically a better solution than the stronger but more expensive three-level pylon. The triangular configuration also has electrical advantages: the conductors are hanging in a triangle shape in good circular symmetry relative to each other, so induction forces are equally distributed whereby efficiency of the power line increases, especially if phases are changed so that the induction effect of the earth on all three phases is evenly distributed.
