Hello, so the claim that your "account was blocked without appropriate warning" is disprovable by looking at [[#Informing the uploader]], [[#Notify uploader]], [[#Warning]] and [[#Will you please notify the uploader?]]. In [[#Warning]], Yann even says "You will be blocked next time". So what steps are you taking to make sure you notify uploaders during speedy deletions? Are you using tools like [[Help:Gadget-UserMessages]]? Or [[COM:TWINKLE]]? —'''Matrix(!)''' <nowiki>{</nowiki>''[[User:Matrix|user]] - [[User talk:Matrix|talk?]] - [[Special:Contribs/Matrix|<small><s>useless</s></small>contributions]]''<nowiki>}</nowiki> 06:04, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

My block is only for one week, and I have decided to not edit on this Wiki for a longer period of time, so an unblock is not necessary. When I do decide to resume making edits here, I will greatly reduce the number of files that I tag for deletion, and I will consider making automated edits (such as nominating a file for deletion, rather than tagging it for speedy). Thank you. [[User:Johnj1995|Johnj1995]] ([[User talk:Johnj1995#top|<span class="signature-talk">{{int:Talkpagelinktext}}</span>]]) 13:26, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on {{POTY/time|2023|r1end|time=yes}} UTC.

Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 16:39, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On a side note, please consider archiving your talk page instead of removing old messages. See COM:ARCHIVE for more information. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 16:39, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Johnj1995 (talk) 17:35, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy templates

[edit]

Hello there. I figured I was making life easier for admins by adding context to speedy deletion criteria, such as {{speedy|G10 advert, it's the URL of a chatroom.}} on a QR code, but you've taken it down to a simple "G10". Should I not be trying to add explanatory comments to speedy templates like that? I know that bots pick up on the templates and add appropriate talk page warnings, but I'd thought that if I'd warned the user myself, the explanation would be appreciated. If it's not, I'll stop! --Lord Belbury (talk) 17:30, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Advertisements for speedy deletion should be tagged as{{SD|G10|2=Your reason}} so that the file is placed in the appropriate category. Johnj1995 (talk) 19:53, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

<barging in, accidentally seen> Lord Belbury, Johnj1995, Stang, thanks a lot for your work here on Commons! Regarding DRs I recommend activating AjaxQuickDelete and QuickDelete @ Special:Preferences → Gadgets if not done already. Additional reasons for deletion reqs can easily be defined, see for example my User:Achim55/common.js or User:Jeff_G./common.js, section window.AjaxDeleteExtraButtons. That provides a comfortable way of tagging and also includes an automatic notification of the uploader. Cheers, Achim55 (talk) 20:58, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks John, I didn't know about the undocumented "2=" option. --Lord Belbury (talk) 17:38, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting

[edit]

Thanks for correcting the speedy deletion templates on the files where I put them. I am not very familiar with speedy deleting on Commons. Minilammas (talk) 17:35, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to express similar thanks. I just used what I knew would work since I knew the file was non-free, but I didn't know what template I'm supposed to use so I simply searched "Template:Speedy" in the search bar and selected the first result that seemed correct. Informing the uploader

[edit]

Hi, You need to inform the uploader when you nominate a file for deletion. Thanks, Yann (talk) 21:29, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Gadget-UserMessages is very helpful for this purpose. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:38, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It is also helpful to inform and instruct errant {{Delete}} taggers when you undo their work in edits such as this. See what I did with the taggers of that file.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:16, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Again, you need to inform the uploader when you tag a file for deletion. Thanks, Yann (talk) 14:14, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Last warning

[edit]

Hi, I already warned you several times not to create invalid deletions requests. Check the source before creating a request. Thanks, Yann (talk) 12:06, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for informing me that this deletion request is invalid. Johnj1995 (talk) 14:42, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Simple icons

[edit]

Just a reminder, simple logos or icons such as File:Sad-face.png certainly should not be nominated for speedy deletion, even if they are taken from an external website which claims copyright. You can open a normal COM:DR if you believe the design exceeds COM:TOO, but speedy should only be used if no reasonable person would dispute that it is above TOO. -- King of ♥ 07:15, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

vandalism?

Hi, why did you speedy-tag File:كريم عبد العزيز.png for vandalism? --Túrelio (talk) 08:29, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ho should one do a proper request? --Berserkur (talk) 16:58, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On the sidebar, select "Nominate category for discussion" to properly nominate the category for deletion. Johnj1995 (talk) 17:00, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
hello Johan,
you marked 4 pics of mine for speedy deletion, I want to know why? and if there is something I can do to make it right?
Thank You! MarkScoopit (talk) 01:09, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Selan

[edit]

Trying to understand what is happening here: you removed Category:Selan from File:Selan CHIC white.JPG, then proposed Category:Selan for deletion because it is empty. But why the removal in the first place? I'm aware that this person made the mistake of writing a Wikipedia article about himself, but he is actually a reasonably significant musician: anyone who played with Nile Rodgers & Chic certainly is notable enough for a Commons photo (if possibly not for a Wikipedia article). It's possible that the photo will be deleted for copyright reasons. If so, fine. But removing the photo from the category preemptively seems to me to be the wrong way to go about this. Also Pinging @Yann, who did the deletion. - Jmabel ! talk 20:58, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmabel: OK, I restored the category, and denied the speedy DR. Yann (talk) 21:02, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SNK farewell.jpg

[edit]

Sorry, I just clicked wrong the "This is file my own work", but I didn't create the art SNK farewell.jpg. But I knew about Wikimedia copyright intellectual property. I'm sorry. Krohnen (talk) 18:41, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Don't cancel my delete request

[edit]

You canceled my delete request. What is the problem with that? AlexusUkr (talk) 22:50, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback right given

[edit]

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Commons:Rollback. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. --Achim55 (talk) 09:20, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, You tagged this as a copyright violation, which it is not. Please be more careful about this. In addition, you must inform the uploader when you tag a file. Thanks, Yann (talk) 20:25, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ivanpah-Control project

[edit]

Hi, I'm new to posting here, did you post a message saying the file I posted at the following URL was a copyright violation?:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IvanpahControlProject2019.jpg

The source link I gave at blm.gov links to the Flickr page for that image:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/blmcalifornia/52508712715/in/album-72157715019511542/

which has a public domain mark for that photograph that links to the creative commons public domain page:

https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/mark/1.0/

The following Wikimedia page says Wikimedia accepts that as public domain:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Flickr_files#Public_Domain_Mark

Do I need to change the classification to a different type of public domain? ArcMath (talk) 00:49, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Uploads by RepaNation

[edit]

User RepaNation (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log has the same name as the Cuban conglomerate, RepaNation Network,[1] which represents, manages, produces and distributes the music of the artists appearing in this pictures. They are also the owners of RaggaMorffa Editorial.[2] That's the reason I tagged them as promotional, but apparently is only a violation if the picture is personal or is copyvio; maybe there should not be a G10 rationale.--MexTDT (talk) 05:54, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

G10 removal

[edit]

Hi! You removed the G10 tags I'd added here and to a couple of other uploads by the same user. Those are LTA cross-wiki abuse by one of a long series of sockpuppets whose only interest is self-promotion (please see w:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Santana MontanaReal). It doesn't greatly matter, as I imagine the files will anyway be deleted as F10, but would you care to restore those tags? Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:48, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, Johnj1995. Thanks for patrolling new pages. I've declined your deletion request for some pages that you tagged for speedy deletion because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover those pages. Please take a moment to read the deletion policy, and criteria for speedy deletion. Such pages are best listed at Deletion requests instead. Handling child protection matters

[edit]

Hi! I noticed you tagged a file, entitled "13 yo teen dick", for speedy deletion. In the future, please do not do this for things that appear to be child pornography. Instead, please:

1) Approach an active admin *privately*, who will delete the file. IRC or Discord can be useful for this. Looking for recently active admins, emailing them, and telling them you've done so also works. Links and filenames must not be shared publicly until the file is deleted. In the absence of a prompt admin response, approach a Steward instead.

2) The admin must also report this to the Wikimedia Foundation (legal-reports@___.org). The oversighters may also be contacted to suppress the material.

Best, —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 23:13, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Changing SD reason

[edit]

Hi. I request you to stop re-tagging/modifying rational in SD template when it was originally put by other experienced/established users. You recently changed rational to "F10" in a file that I had tagged for SD as "F10 and G10", the file clearly contained promotional content, thus I wanted it to be reflected in the speedy deletion reason, you can see the deleting admin re-added the other criterion. These users know what they are doing, the admins know which CSD to use. If I remember correctly, I had once poked you for re-tagging broken redirects tagged by me probably 2-3 years ago. I'm sorry but your edits like this aren't helpful, I would say your edits like changing "Advertisment"/"Personal photo" to "G10"/"F10" would still make sense for the sake of categorisation but please don't do it in case for other criterion or when the rational contains other information, specific reason, multiple criteria. I hope you will understand. Thanks! -- CptViraj (talk) 04:23, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate -- check the file history

[edit]

Hi. Prior to marking with duplicate, there is value in checking the file history to ensure that we haven't had a case of someone overwriting the image contrary to policy. Better to revert the overwrite, and then use something like {{Other version}} to highlight the alternative.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:13, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Rather than request deletion of long-existing and essentially used categories, please look to utilise {{Category redirect}} with them. Appeal deletion of

[edit]

Hello! I must commend your activities on wikimedia projects, especially on Commons.

I wish to object the deletion of only one file and the category . Even though there is no reliable source to claim notability yet, there is a write up on thecommunity.ng that points to the fact that the individual is interested in politics and can easily become a local legislative assembly member for Nigeria's Delta State. Based on that, I think the file Samuel Kporaro be kept for future use. Also the category for Samuel Kporaro be kept as it could be useful in the nearest future. Every other file of the individual on Commons should and must be deleted.

I love the wikimedia projects and would love to make very constructive and beneficial edits and contributions. However, as guided by the Bible, nothing goes for nothing (God owns everything including the humans. Even in the book of Psalms and other biblical books it is affirmed and confirmed. God even said that if He were hungry, he wouldn't need to tell humans because the animals in the field and the entire world are HIS. But then he tries to teach his people not to do anything for nothing, by asking the question "Can a human rob God?" He went further to say that humans have robbed Him. He proceeded to tell them what to bring to Him to access his blessings. Did apostle Paul in one of his epistle not emphasize this. He even further told his congregation, "I don't mean that you should burden yourself to ease others). Just like the ancestors and predecessors of the present Europeans, Christianity is very influential in my life. If you know me and know how I keep finding myself falling back to Christianity and Christian identity, you will know that Christianity shapes my culture and viewpoints. Keep the category and file requested but delete every other. Nobody buys browsing data or electricity for me. But what is important is this: keep the category and the only one file. In the Ecclesiastes or Proverbs, you will learn that a poor wise man saved an entire city but in the end, no one knows him or even recognize him; only mere mention in passing about him. Keep and File:Samuel Kporaro 2024.png. Delete every other category, file or upload. The category and file will be useful. 105.113.57.226 07:34, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You deleted the files earlier but can you delete the category too please? This is cross-wiki promotion. Users have been globally locked. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 07:33, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Editing CSD Tags.

[edit]

Hello, I noticed you have started editing my CSD Tags. Please don't edit them, as you have been asked by several other contributors to not edit their CSD tags. It does more harm than good, and removes context that is important for the deleteing admin.

Hi. Please do not assist in the speedy deletion requests like https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Flag_of_the_South_African_Police_(1981%E2%80%931994).svg&diff=prev&oldid=891527401 These should be rejected on sight, and returned to being functioning redirects. Hi Johnj1995, I understand why you deleted my uploaded files, but I had already been deleted the original files after uploaded to wiki. So, would you temporarily restore the deleted files for the sake of me to save the files again? Those files are important for me because they contain the precious info of my schools. Warning

[edit]

Hi, I think I already warned you to process deletion requests properly, i.e. you should inform the uploader, and it is better to create a mass deletion request when concerning many images by the same user, i.e. Special:Contributions/Victor_Antoine_Angers. Also a regular DR is better appropriate here than a speedy deletion request. You were also warned by other contributors. You will be blocked next time. Yann (talk) 20:29, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Will you please notify the uploader?

[edit]

Will you please notify the uploaders when you mark their files for speedy deletion? Such as at File:𑄝𑅅.png, File:梅艳芳2002.jpg, File:姚贝娜娜娜2014.png ‎, File:Protien powder.jpg and File:Your strategy.jpg ‎. I've told you to do that before. Thank you. 0x0a (talk) 08:53, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked

[edit]

I told you several times to create deletion requests only with the proper evidence.--Yann (talk) 23:09, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request declined

This blocked user asked to be unblocked, but one or more administrators has reviewed and declined this request. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked. Other administrators can also review this block, but should not override the decision without discussion.

Request reason: "I request that my account be unblocked. While I do agree that I have not been properly notifying users, I do not find it acceptable that my account was blocked without appropriate warning. It would have been more reasonable if a warning message (such as "if you tag another file for speedy deletion without properly notifying the user, you will be blocked") was left on my talk page. After I am unblocked, I will no longer tag any files for deletion, unless I am also willing to notify the user. Thank you."
Decline reason: "As the block lasts only one week and also per discussion I decline the request. Indeed, you were properly warned multiple times. Taivo (talk) 11:07, 16 August 2024 (UTC)"[reply]
Administrators: This template should be removed when the block has expired.

Unblock discussion

[edit]

Hello, so the claim that your "account was blocked without appropriate warning" is disprovable by looking at #Informing the uploader, #Notify uploader, #Warning and #Will you please notify the uploader?. In #Warning, Yann even says "You will be blocked next time". So what steps are you taking to make sure you notify uploaders during speedy deletions? Are you using tools like Help:Gadget-UserMessages? Or COM:TWINKLE? —Matrix(!) {user - talk? - uselesscontributions} 06:04, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Johnj1995 (talk) 13:26, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2023 voting is open!

[edit]
2022 Picture of the Year: Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) and Gadwall (Mareca strepera) in Nepal.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
