Etymology

From Proto-Mon-Khmer *knpur (lime), of Austronesian origin. Cognate with Vietnamese vôi (lime) and Mon ဂပဵု (həpɒ, lime; stalked lime). Compare Proto-Austronesian *qapuʀ, whence also Malay kapur.
