[edit]From Middle High German gebiuwe, from Old High German gibūi (“dwelling, settlement”).[1][2] Equivalent to ge- + Bau. Doublet of Gebäude. Cognate with Yiddish געבײַ (gebay), Yiddish געבוי (geboy), Dutch gebouw
