From Proto-Iranian *náHuš (whence also Persian ناو (nâv, boat; channel)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *náHuš, from Proto-Indo-European *néh₂us, whence also Ancient Greek ναῦς (naûs), Latin navis and Armenian նավ (nav).
