[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀟𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀸𑀭 (*ḍakkāra), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀟𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀸𑀭 (*ḍakkāra), from Sanskrit डकार (ḍakāra, “the letter ḍa”). Cognate with Punjabi ਡਕਾਰ (ḍakār) / ڈکار (ḍakār), Nepali डकार (ḍakār), Marathi ढेकर (ḍhekar), डकार (ḍakār), Kashmiri ڈاکُر (ḍākur).
