Ἱκέτιδες (Hiketides, Latin: Supplices), usually translated into English as Suppliants or The Suppliant Women, is a tragedy written by Euripides, and first produced in 423 BCE. The title derives from the chorus of women from Argos whose sons died in battle outside the gates of Thebes. Because of Creon’s decree, their corpses remain unburied.
