Jitender Singh Tomar is an Indian politician, who is the current cabinet minister of home and law and justice, under the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal.[1] He is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and represents Tri Nagar (Assembly tuency) in the Sixth Legislative Assembly of Delhi.[2]
Early life and education
Tomar was 48 years old, when he sworn in as minister in February 2015.[1] He is the son of Balbir Singh Tomar. He is married. He is a self-employed lawyer, He never did any practice[3] registered with the Bar Council of Delhi.[4] As per his election affidavit, he holds a LLB degree (1999) from the Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bihar.[3]

Political career
Tomar was earlier a member of the Indian National Congress (INC), but never contested elections from the Congress. He joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2013.[1] He contested the 2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections from the Tri Nagar (Assembly constituency) as an AAP candidate. He polled 34,161 votes and stood second losing to the former two-time MLA (member of Legislative Assembly), Nand Kishore Garg of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He lost by the margin of 2,809 votes.[1][9]
The AAP gave him candidature for Tri Nagar in the 2015 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections again. He got 63,012 votes, defeating BJP's sitting MLA Garg, by a margin of 22,311 votes.[10][11] He raised issues of parking and cheap water and power. He also campaigned for sanitation and closure of open drains, that flowed through slums. He also promised construction of a government hospital in the area.[9][1]
On 14 February 2015, Tomar was sworn as a cabinet minister in the Delhi government under chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. He holds the important portfolios of home and law and justice as well as tourism, art and culture.[1]
