State Route 86 is a 32-mile-long (51 km) route in Pickens County in the western part of the state. The route begins at the Mississippi-Alabama state line and is a continuation of Mississippi Highway 388. The eastern terminus of the route is at its junction with U.S. Highway 82 at Gordo.

Route description

State Route 86 is aligned along a two-lane roadway as it enters Alabama. Just east of the Mississippi-Alabama state line the route crosses the Tom Bevill Lock and Dam and enters the town of Pickensville. The route assumes an eastward orientation as it continues across Pickens County, connecting Pickensville with Carrollton and Gordo, where it junctions U.S. Highway 82, which leads eastwardly to Tuscaloosa.

State Route 86 was designated in 1957. The original route ran from the Mississippi state line to Carrollton, replacing County Road 70. The route was extended eastward to its current terminus in 1962, replacing County Road 12.[1]

Major intersections

The entire route is in Pickens County.
