Revision as of 01:42, 1 November 2009

An election for Governor of Illinois will be held on November 2, 2010.

The previously elected governor, Democrat Rod Blagojevich, was impeached by the Illinois House of Representatives on January 8, 2009, and removed from office and barred from future elected state office by the Illinois Senate on January 29, 2009. Blagojevich and his chief of staff, John Harris, had been arrested in December 2008 on two counts each of corruption charges relating to, among other things, attempting to sell the United States Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.

When Blagojevich was removed from office Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn became governor. Quinn has announced that he will be seeking a full term in 2010.[1]
